Played here last Sunday and was really surprised how good the course had held up with all the rain we’ve had over Winter. Fairways were short and cushioned, greens were fast and true. Some really interesting holes with some good bunkering. Looks like they’re doing some changes to the 1st and few other holes with some temp greens being grown.

Just played this course s part of a golfing weekend on the coast with a group 6. Very friendly staff with plenty of information and helpful members on course.
The course itself played very well with the greens in excellent condition and fairways well cut in most parts, the course has a nice layout with water in play and some fantastic looking bunkering on some of the par 3’s – only complaint would be the walking between some of the tee’s was a little confusing and long (better signage needed)
A great round got though in 4 and half hours and then enjoyed a nice beverage in the bistro over looking the course, will be back for sure.

I played the course in December 04 and it is in great shape. The fairways are fantastic with the couch taking hold. The old 13th is now the short 15th as too many balls were flying into houses and passing vehicles so the order on the back nine has changed to reduce walking distance between holes. The first was a short par 5 but now is probably the hardest hole on the course, a 395m par 4 with water ever present on the left with the approach shot to the green. Torquay has changed to a more links type course with less trees, more bunkers and this was inevitable with it's close proximity to the coast line. The views from the 12 and 17th tee are awesome looking towards Bells Beach and it's great that these occur late in the round. There is a good mixture of par 3 holes. The 17th is only 118m long, but is tough when the wind blows. The front nine is flat. The back nine is more undulating. Some of the greens on the back are tricky, particularly the 14th which slopes from back to front and right to left. Both my playing partner Lloyd and myself thought the greens were true to putt on. Torquay with the changes now plays to a par 70.

Torquay is currently going through a total revamp of it's fairways, greens and environment. Many of the exotic plantings of the past are being cut down and replaced with natives. The fairways are being resown and there are plans to change the sizes of some of the smaller greens to make them a little larger. The biggest changes will revolve around making the course more links in nature, which with the prevailing wind off Bass Straight, should make things interesting.
Currently the course could be said to be in 'good' condition, with new grasses establishing themselves, and still some bare lies about the fairways.
At 5900+ metres is a medium length course, by todays standards, but with the wind off Bass Straight coming in at 20-30 knots it makes the course, play much longer.
Many of the holes on the back 9 give views of the sea, and the surf that the area is so famous for. The picturesque 17th hole is a short par 3, but gives sweeping vistas of the sea and many parts of the course, and the traps around the green await anything other than a straight hit.
Well worth the experience now, but will only get better in time.

What a joke, what was once one of the State’s top 30 Public access courses has become a short, uninteresting course due to a few people who were short sighted and sold the course for $1 to the RACV so that they could get 10 years free membership. The course and surrounds are currently being ’renovated / upgraded’ by the might Michael Clayton, what a waste of money, time and space.
Avoid at all risk, unless you wish to play a course currently that will in the nest month or so become a 4000 metre course with 9-10 Par 3’s and only a couple of decent holes.
When finished it will be a ’tricked up’ course by the designer of ’tricked up ’ courses.
