TPC at Southwind
Designed by Ron Prichard, with PGA TOUR professionals Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller lending their expertise as consultants, the course stretches over 240 acres of southeast Memphis countryside.
The club was opened in March 1988 and has played host to the St. Jude Championship since 1989. Many of the most prominent players on the TOUR have claimed victories at Southwind, including Jeff Maggert, the current champion.
The course has a great variety of holes with water coming into play on many of them. The 231 yard par 3 hole No. 14 ranks as “one of the toughest par 3 holes on tour” each year. This hole requires a long iron or wood tee shot to a narrow green protected by water along the entire right side of the green. The green is also very challenging with a large undulation in the middle of the green.
The 461 yard par 4 hole No. 18 provides a spectacular finish to a great round of golf. The tee shot must be played alongside a water hazard that protects the left side of the fairway. This same hazard then continues to the left of the green and causes any golfer to think twice before aiming their approach shot at the flagstick.
While the course challenges the best players on the TOUR from the TPC tees, it is designed to provide an enjoyable test of golf for players of all abilities.
