Trafalgar is coming back an Absolute treat. It had a lot of trouble through the winter and summer took its toll as it did with many other courses in Victoria. The grass is starting to grow nicely on the fairways and the greens as everyone know are always spot on.

While I’m a new member of the club I have now played a couple of rounds and thought it was worthwhile to give the course an status update.

As we approach summer the course is in good condition. Greens are a touch slow due to wet winter, but summer will see those quicken. Fairways have outstanding cover, with only a few wet patches in the lower ground.

For $25 and only 1.5hrs from the CBD you couldn’t go wrong.

A very enjoyable course that has some reasonably steep hills and could be considered undulating. The rough has been generally cleared out from under a lot of the trees to reduce the chances of losing your ball but certain areas adjacent to the tees are very dence. You must position your ball under the hole on some of the sloped greens because a putt down hill can be very quick (depending on the hole position). There’s not too many bunkers on the course (recently 11) but two new additions to the par 3 5th hole has increased that to 13. In most cases they are green side bunkers and resonably shallow. The new front bunker on the 5th is one of the two bunkers that steep faces to them to manouvre out of.
There are a copule of dams but they have very minimal influence. Generally I would consider the greens to be medium fast and some have big slopes to them.
Green fees are approximately $25 but a member of another club receives a cheaper rate. There about 10 motorised carts available for hire, practice nets and grassed practice range. The clubhouse staff are very friendly and make you welcome.

PROS

  • No delays to play during the week and very minimal delay on weekends
  • Very rarely gets wet and playable even after long periods of rainfall

Cons

  • No pro shop or pro and limited golf equipment for purchase

A great course with a good mixture of short and long holes with the odd dogleg. The greens were magnificant, fast and true. While not a overly long course, several holes require an additional club to reach the green due to the undulations in the terrain. Great hospitality from 'Larry' in the bar made the day even more enjoyable. This is a very good course which rewards the straight hitter and punishes the wayward hitter. Definately will return to play again.
