After turning up to this course over the easter break i must say it a damn shame the way the course has ended up….

It looks like an amazing layout but there was no one around and there was foot high grass through to the greens….

Pro shop was still friendly but you wonder what they were thinking to put a golf course in the middle of no where….If they built it at Airlie beach it could have had a chance but i was a decent drive from any civilisation…

I wouldn’t be suprised if this place closes down very very soon…

I played this course on Sat 11 Jan after forking out almost $200 for 18 hole and a nights accommodation. While the resort and pro shop staff were very friendly and helpful, i couldn’t feel anything but ripped off after playing the first hole. Let alone the rest of the course. The fairways were bare in many places, bare patches and weeds on the greens. Even the tee markers look like the originals??? I spoke with the pro shop staff after the round and was told that the course had improved after some rain and that they were attempting to get the course ready for a major QLD event coming up this year. They are dreaming after what I saw.

The money has simply dried up. They couldn’t even manage to water the tee for the driving range! I hit half a bucket & walked away.
I was going to have a round on the day, but from what I saw from the road I decided against it. I pulled over & walked onto one of the greens…. More weeds than my front garden! Might as well keep driving & have a round at Proserpine instead.
I highly doubt they’ll ever complete the other courses, they can’t even afford to maintain the one they currently have.
Only thing keeping it in the top 50 is the layout.
From the Top 100 Judges- "
Turtle Point at Laguna Whitsundays, long a top ranked course with exceptional playing surfaces dropped down the rankings largely as a result of deterioration in course conditioning. It is to be hoped that finances will permit this layout to return to its former glory and the proposed second and third courses to be completed at this tropical paradise."

There’s a new course being built by Adam Scott at Bowen, should be a good addition.

played here late Dec 08’, I cannot believe what has happened to this course? can anyone shed some light on this? i played it in 01 and it was the best course in QLD by a country mile.

Just comeback from Turtle point 04/01/09 and was disappionted. The course should not even be in the top 50 courses known the top 20 which was shown when i last visited the rankings site. Obviously the glory days have long gone and they seem to be about 20 green keepers short. No distinct fairways and the greens were definately not up to scratch. You can image what it might have looked like and the design is very challenging but just one look at there mighty club house which must have cost mega bucks just left decaying and overcome by vegetation tells a story. Very sad and no one in the resort was willing to talk about it but mind you they have no problem advertising the course as there main attraction which is disgraceful and they should be forced to stop until some major facelifts happens.

Unfortunately this course has gone to the pack – big time. Played there mid December 2008 and the course was in an atrocious condition, fairways were a mix of dead grass and mud and the greens full of clumpy weeds – a sure sign that money has run out for almost all maintenance. Also no indication from pro shop about the course condition as they collected full green fees. Had previously played there twice about 3-5 years ago and the course was superb then. Sorry I won’t be back !!

after recently doing a gold coast golf trip and being spoilt by playing courses such as the glades, robina woods, lakelands, palm meadows and brookwater i was so looking forward to a week in airlie beach where the highlight of the week was going to be a game at turtle point. how dissapointed i was in the condition of the course. i know it has been very dry up north but that does not explain weed infested fairways and greens unkept bunkers tattered flags etc.etc.! this place looks like it needs a massive injection of funds to get it back to its former glory. the layout of the course is absolutely fantastic and i still enjoyed the round as some of the holes are breathtakingly beautiful even if you have to use your imagination as to how they looked in thier heyday.i must mention how friendly the staff were and can only imagine what they have to put up with in the way of disgruntled golfers who have just parted with $95 to play on this track in its present condition.i hope David Graham never gets to see it as it is at the moment,he would be horrified!

I played this course last week and loved it,I was on holidays in airlie beach, resort staff came and picked up my wife and myself even though she isnt a golfer but had hered how beautiful the course is and just wanted to ride in the cart with me(this was not a problem at all when i rang to book).

Upon arrival at the pro shop he apoligised for the condition of the course due to some recent heavy rain and gave me a discount ($50 for round and cart and missus).from there the day got better with me playing one of my best rounds ever.I found the course quite challenging quickly realising that sometimes driving off the tee wasnt the best option and the par threes are pretty short so smashing the ball didnt always work.

As mentioned in other reviews the course is visually spectacular and a absolute pleasure to play, even the wife had a good time.the only bad thing to happen was the cart running out of battery on the 18th which is up hill so a hard push back to the club house. as for the condition of the course, i couldnt fault it, the staff where very friendly and more than hoppy to have us for lunch beside the resort pool before driving us back to our hotel, all in all a great way to spend the day whether you are a hacker or serious golfer P.S only 4 stars because of the cart

This course is fantastic and a real challenge. Well worth the time to play. Looking forward to the next two courses being completed.

This is the golf course that really spoilt me. After being closeby & playing several times I thought that all golf courses looked like this one.

Well this course is one that you MUST play. The setting for the course is magnificent & David Graham’s design is a masterpeice. All the holes are too different to metnion in detail but my highligh is the par 3 lined with trees on each side hitting towards a green that has an ocean background. Some days the wind is nothing & otherdays you almost need a wood to hit the green.

A great course that is well worth the trip or detour from your travels.

WOW! This is a visually spectacular and thoroughly enjoyable golf course to play. I rate in in the top tier of courses I have played, alongside Bonville, 13th Beach (Beach), The Cut and Joondalup. If you’re nearby (or even driving through Proserpine on the Bruce Highway) stop here and play.

From the plates it is 6366m, par 72 and ACR 73. There are two easier tee placements and then the red tees at 4918m. The holes wind their way through tropical vegetation playing in all different directions, with some changes in elevation and with plenty of variation in lengths. The shortest par 3 is 132m, but don’t be short as it’s over a lake all the way. The longest par 5 is a real three shotter at 541m and has the same lake running completely down it’s left flank. But it’s the variation in the par 4’s that really make this such a strong golf course. The spectacular 6th runs along the bay; the short 17th is terribly inviting and the dog-leg 15th offers reward for a well shaped shot, but has risk in the closely placed hazards.

The best news is that this course (called Turtle Point) is part of the Laguna Whitsundays resort which has another two courses in various stages of planning / development. If the other two are as good as this one then golfing heaven, for me at least, might be found.

I would rate this course second only to the glades in Qld. Beautiful conditions and scenery and holes that if you're off the fairway you're literally in the Pacific Ocean! A par 3 that one day I hit 5 iron onto the green and the next day same hole fell short with a full blooded driver - that's golf! Only one of 5 courses I have ever rated a 5 star out of about 100 I have rated!

Put simply, this is an amazing course! Visually spectacular, beautifully maintained, challenging and a whole lot of fun. I cannot believe that for my entire round I only saw one other group. This really gave me time to enjoy the beauty and just take my time. Playing at a relaxed pace and the lack of traffic meant that I finished my round in 3.25 hours. Never having to wait or being hit up on makes a welcome change from my usual course in Sydney. This adds to whole feeling of seclusion while being at one with nature.

Every hole is different to another and the course design takes you on a journey through tropical rainforest and ocean side mangroves. It is difficult to highlight any one hole as being better than another but the one thing that is common to them all is that they are all visually âÄòpostcard perfectâÄô. This leads to excitement and anticipation because you can hardly wait to see and play the next hole. The change in surface slope, strategically placed bunkers and trees makes you thing about your game and is excellent fun. I have to admit that I wanted to go around again, immediately after I finished.

This is a course that will excite all golfers and but reward straight hitters. The scrub is so thick that if you donâÄôt hit the fairway, you will loose your ball. I also had an encounter with an overly friendly Tiapan which added to the overall excitement of my round. At $95 including cart hire this is a bargain. Hire clubs are in excellent condition so you have no excuse not to play it if you are in the area. I will definitely be coming back, and next time IâÄôll bring my friends!

In the words of the Terminator "I'll be back!"

And I have. If asked to rate this course as a true hacker a few years ago, it would be a ten for lost golf balls. After my third visit it's just a 10.

It is a truly affordable resort course, beautiful fairways, amazing diversity, and plenty of options for the different level of golfer. Great for the group of golf tragics on a hit and run social visit or just a relaxing holiday with the Leader of the Opposition (Who, in my case, travels around in the cart just to shake her head at the futility of it all)

When compiling my reviews this is my benchmark.

After playing this course I'm very seriously thinking of moving to the whittsundays so I can play this course 7 days a week, easily one of the best courses I have ever played right alongside Waireki Resort in NZ.

I to played this course mid-week and there wasn't a sole around so I to could enjoy the beautifull views from the 6th and the 14th then theres the par 3 where your looking out to the ocean beautifull golf course, even my wife who like most golf widows who doesn't like golf was quite taken back by the beauty this golf course possessed.

Course 10/10

This is the best golf course I have ever played on - Playing mid week and being the only person on the course I could take my time to appreciate the beauty of the scenery. Very playable off the middle tees for me (your average hacker) and every hole was a sight to behold. The condition of the course was first rate and fees of $65 including a cart was good value - Extremely jealous of those who can play here all the time. Would love to visit hear again.
