Good course, this one. Have had a blinder in still conditions, barely broke 90 in a fierce wind. The test of a good course is whether after playing for the first time you can distinctly recall each hole… Woodlands does this in spades.

Top holes are the driveable par 4 4th, the grueling par 4 10th and the short dogleg par 4 3rd.

A friendlier club you’d be hard pressed to find. My dad and I played as reciprocal members years ago and the members made a point of stopping by our table in the bar to chat about our round. If I lived in Melbourne, this would be my club!

I was interested to read the reviews about Woodlands. I have not played there for 40 years yet it seems that it maintains similar tricky shots as was the case then As a member of the state team all those years ago as well as a frequent club champion at Woodlands I found the course harder to break 70 on than most. However, not withstanding my bias towards my favourite course I would place Kingston Heath as the top club of my time in senior golf. Played Woodlands on June 10th 2011 on a golf link open day. After reading some reviews about playing off the front markers I was unhappy to find that the first tee was 40 metres forward and the 2nd tee was also 40 metres forward, luckily after that the tees were pretty much near the back so it was much more enjoyable but when will clubs learn that if you pay full price you expect to play the full course! I tend to agree with many of the other reviews that Woodlands is a good Sandbelt course but nothing more than that. I would rank it behing Kingswood and Southern in terms of design and condition but it was still enjoyable. Because it was winter and we had had some rain a few days earlier, the greens were holding and putting quite nicely but they were very small and the run offs quite severe in places which tricks the course up a bit. All in all I wouldn’t rush back but it was an enjoyable round.

Played Woodlands a couple of weeks ago. While it is a solid sandbelt course it is definately not up there with the Heath, Melbourne, Metro and the likes. Unfortunately we were playing off the front marks and so many of the bunkers etc. were not really in play, I’m sure it is a much better course off the backs. Found it hard to adjust to the greens as nothing was holding which meant alot of putting from off the edge, but get this on most sandbelt courses. No real memeroable holes but just a good honest course.

Played on 10th December, 2010 as a reciprocal member. Try and play off the back tees if you can, we were there the same day as a corporate day and tees were massively forward. As first timers to the course we were driving through corners and into ridiculously skinny parts of the fairways. Clearly nothing to do with the course. Seemed an easy start with a short Par 4 and 5, then the 4th being a driveable Par 4. Greens were still tough to hold even though there had been plenty of rain. Result is that you end up putting from swailes round every table top green. This got a bit dull after a while.

Course was in great condition given the down pours, bunkers retained the water. They have spent millions on the club house, it is very impressive and the steak sandwich at $13 was value.

Good day wanted to like the course more than I did, would think that being rated 22 in Australia is toppish.

Played Woodlands for the first time today. Absolutely love the layout. A real test of strategy that rewards good shotmaking but punishes poor shots. A good short game is essential to score well around this course. Condition of course was reasonable for winter and given that it has rained for the best part of the last week. I would imagine however that the condition of the course would go up a notch in the spring and the autumn. Can’t wait to play the course again. Most enjoyable.

A nice course. I found it very similar to sandringham. Small greens, target golf. Bunkers are ordinary and do penalize. Short but tricky, fairways were average but middle of winter. Dont miss these greens!

Often called the hidden gem of the sandbelt, Woodlands offers up a delightful test of golf for all ablility's and ages. Execellent fairways and true rolling greens with speed!

A true par 72, many of the holes are routed in differing directions so no matter which way the wind blows you have to be careful with your club selection. Featuring some magnificent par 4's that really make you think about where to hit your tee shot, or if your laying up where to leave your 2nd...The course on the times I have been lucky enough to play it, has always been in superb condition, in fact it is probably the best kept course year round of all the sandbelt courses, including those which are rated higher in the magazine polls.

If you get the opportunity to have a game here, you will have a day to remember

I get to play this course occasionally (thanx A!) and it's a fine course even in drought conditions thanks to bore water. All year round the fairway grass is like fine carpet (if you find the fairway). The rough can be real rough (esp the 1st par 3 hole).

The first two holes are boomers - particularly the second. Plenty of driver length required. The fourth hole is the par 3 I mentioned...a duffed tee shot here is gone forever - and the green is like a pool table sloping from back to front. When I say pool table...it's about 4 feet higher than the surrounding grass and the only sure way to land the ball safely on it is from the front.

After that you just get into a kind of buzz walking around the course, and it's really disappointing when you finally finish on the 18th and it's all over.
