Rang up to make a booking for a group of 4 in their Saturday competition and was told we would be the final group at 12.On arrival at the pro shop noticed another name on the time sheet and asked has this guy cancelled as we are a group of 4.The young girl said I think so and booked us in.On arrival at the first tee we met the guy that was already on the sheet meaning we had 5.Although not ideal we decided as we were the last comp group we would play as 5.Upon seeing this a highly agitated group of elderly Women social players due to tee off after us flew into the pro shop complaining about our proposed group of 5.So off we go half an hour late as a group of 3 and 2.Although I didn’t play that well and it took a touch over 5 hours to complete our round I quite enjoyed the course which was well maintained and had a good mix of holes.
Upon arriving back at the clubhouse with a thirst for a cold one we were met by another agitated Woman who told us to hurry up and get our cards in as she wanted to get this over with and get out of there she also added that we should not be doing our cards in the clubhouse as this looks like we are cheating. After seeing my look of surprise she sarcastically asked me where I was from rolling her eyes at my reply.I could’t believe this attitude where I come from after a hot day the first thing most people do is head for the air conditioned comfort of the clubhouse get a cold one and complete their cards makes sense to me.Yet it seems at this place when it comes to social golf anything goes we saw groups of young blokes yahooing while playing in singlets, tee shirts and football shorts go figure.

I have been a member here for several years now and have had enough and will not be renewing next year unless there are many drastic changes. The course is fairly good for a public course, probably one of the better ones in sydney but what turns me off are the people that run this place.

this being my first time as a reviewer im trying to put into words my afternoon spent at Woolooware Golf Club, shall i start with the easy, during the day i didn’t have a bad comment at all about the course fairways and greens in good condition[quite true and good speed], i think recent rains have helped a lot of courses, and this one really does have a certain unique subtlety about it …..but! for this course and its only my opinion, the course needs sum work to bring out its true esscence, work around the tee boxes for instance, garden beds to enhance its character, this courses needs sum drama! sum romance! she looks and feels tired troden over by clumsy feet, divots remain a scare on sum really good greens ! this course could be sumthing really special on anyones want to play list, but she needs sumone with real passion to perform this! not just sum guys in green shirts and riding mowers….

Good suburban course – well maintained, challenging layout but not too difficult, just enough variation to keep you coming back. Not too crowded compared to some Sydney courses, and the twilight golf really is a good deal as you can definitely get 18 holes in after 3 in the summer.

There are some nice driving holes on this course, particularly on the back 9, and the course will ensure you use just about every club, unlike some shorter, "three-club" Sydney courses where it’s driver, 9-iron and putter, driver, 9-iron, putter…

All in all a solid suburban public course that will suit most ability levels.

PROS

  • Variable
  • Good length
  • Well maintained

Cons

  • No 9th hole respite at clubhouse/pro shop to refuel
  • For the price, not many!

At $12 after 1pm on weekends you simply cannot beat this value. I’ve played on worse courses and paid more to do so.

I would describe the condition of the course as slightly better than average. Very green, and the fairways can at times be very nice to play off. The greens are in decent condition also. I lost a shot here and there due to a few inconsistencies, but I have to put my hand up and say that I wasn’t putting the best that day so it’s not only the green’s fault.

Gets a little repetitive but you can really work on your game here.

Signature hole would be the par 3 16th. Lots of water, and take an extra club to avoid the drink.

PROS

  • Unbeatable value especially for weekend warriors
  • 16th hole
  • Traffic

Cons

  • Condition of greens - slightly inconsistent and a bit rough around the edges

Woolooware is a very good course for all players. It is very pretty with a good amount of trees, water hazards and bunkers thrown in to challenge you. Relatively flat course and of a good length. May not poise a challenge to very good golfers due to the straight layout. Does get very busy during school holidays and weekends. A far better course than the exclusive paddock next door called Cronulla Golf Course.

PROS

  • Toilet stops on the course and Medical alert stations. Very pretty

Cons

  • Busy of a weekend and school holidays

I played here today for the first time and found it to be great. The course had great variety in the holes which makes you think on every tee shot. The course was very wet and muddy due to the rains laterly, but the course was kept in top condition. The tees and greens where as good as ive seen a course. $16.50 they charge me, great price!. The only thing that left a bitter taste in the mouth was 4.5 hrs for 12 holes. Other then the time factor have a round at this course. The course would be similar to Nrth Ryde, but better again.

Had a round with a mate on a recent Sunday. Lots of mud and water due to recent rains. Fairways played very soft under foot and slow but clean greens (except the 18th green which looks like it hasnt had a shave for a good week).

Also try Kogarah and eastlakes for similar challenges.

Played here recently and found the course superb. It was lush from tee to green, with any tee shot in the fairway receiving a great lie. Holes are varying and challenging, but if you are straight and smart you can play to your handicap or better. Will return again.

now in semi-retirement compared this course to bev park (i am a member of bev park and played socially at wooloware) and i am sorry to say that wooloware is now a much, much better course. I understand bev park is undergoing renovations and water problems etc..but how long can this go on when you can go to wooloware and get such lush fairways...granted the greens may not be as good, but to be honest they are not that bad either...definately superseded Bev park down south..

I am a local and play regurlaly at this course so i am bias however i struggle to find a course with better value for money. Fairways are green and lush with minimal dust patches. Greens are also lush but can sometimes have small dry patches. For just over $20 for a round hard to beat for value. Definately not in the Shire anyway. Do agree however that generally it is a very slow round particularly on a Sunday arvo.

This is always green and in good condition but some days can take 5 plus hours to get around not sure if its slow play or over booked. Well worth the round.

Condition of the course is ok, but it is just back and forth for the first 5 HOles. they are long par 5's chich provide no challenge.

A good begginers course

Played here for the first time and had a fun time. The course is set out fairly well and has been kept in good nick. There are a few challenging holes but nothing out of the ordinary.

About 6 years ago I played at Woolooware on a Sunday and after 4 hours and only 12 holes played vowed never to play there again. Unfortunately I recently broke that vow and nothing had changed. I had a 1:07pm tee off time (the exact time should have had alarms ringing) and actually hit off at 1:45pm.

From there it was a catastrophically slow round with our group leaving in near darkness at the 11th some 4.5 hours later.

The greedy management of this course need to have a look at themselves and not book groups 7 or 9 minutes apart. It doesn't matter how good the course is (it's maybe a 3 out of 5 otherwise) when faced with such frustration

One of the better public courses of Sydney. Reasonably priced and challenging for both the beginner and advanced golfer. Have played here often, and every time there is a new challenge.

Quite a lengthy, flat course. Hazards include water/creeks (1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 15th, 16th), wind can be very challenging even on a calm day - as many holes have different wind directions. Tree-lined fairways with one to two bunkers on every green, begs for a straight tee shot.

Must book on weekends as it is a popular local course, but can get on anytime during the week. The course plays host to some major golf events (i.e. Toyota Southern Classic) and is one of my Sydney favourites, and will definately play again.

Played here for the 1st time a week ago with a couple of younger members.

Fairways were in exellent condition and the greens were imaculate that day (Although some have some deadly slopes).

Will play again for sure.

A lovely, flat course, and excellent value for money at $20 for 18 holes ($25 on a weekend).

Mostly fairly straight-forward holes with one notable exception being a long, uphill, dog-leg Par 5 on the back nine which can present quite a challenge as maybe a bit of fatigue starts to creep in on a hot day.

Trees line most of the fairways and can cause trouble, but play sensibly and you should be able to keep it on the fairly wide fairways most of the time.

The fairways and greens are kept in very good condition with the greens being quite fast when I last played here recently.

At only 30 mins easy drive south of the city Woolooware is very easy to get to and a very good option for beginners and moderate players living in and around the city.

Why put up with the crowds, prices and poorly maintained conditions at Moore Park when Woolooware is only a short drive away?

The layout of this course is clearly suited to the European team who are now odds on to win back to back Ryder Cups and close the gap on ROW.

The relatively flat layout should also be ideal for O'Connors unique driving style.

Tipsters have Europe at 1.10 with ROW a long shot at 2.60.

Come on Europe!

This course is always presented well and for a course that has soooooooo much public use it is always in good condition, only criticsm I have is that it is so popular with locals that a round can take anywhere from 3 and a half hours with noone on the course to up to 5 and a half-6 hours when it is at it's worse, not overly challeniging ot long but good value for money.

This is definently one of Sydney's finer public acces courses with a challenging layout and perfectly manicured course the staff there are always friendly. Weekend tee times are very stringent and enforced well. The actual course layout is plesant with a good mixture of long par 3s and menacing par 4s with the odd birdy makable par 5.One thing favourable in this golfers opinion is it's easy on the legs being reasonably flat. Well worth the price of green fees I reccomend this course to any one.

A nice little course in good condition with generous greens in good condition.

Fairly strait forward lay out (except the par three over water) but nevertheless an enjoyable experience on a good quality course.

Some good holes & a bit of water make this an enjoyable experience. Not too hilly so the walking is easy. The trees arn't too tall so the wind tends to play a part.
