Played here 2 weeks ago in a twighlight 9 holes with a member. It was a shame I couldn’t play 18. I have played other renowned sand-belt courses around Melbourne such as Royal Melbourne and Victoria, but I rate this (although I only played 9 holes) higher than the other two. The condition of the course was emaculate, with the fairways spongy, like carpet – not one bad lie to be found. The course was preparing for the upcoming division 1 pennant, so the greens were almost at their toughest. They were extremely firm and very quick, about 12-13 on the stimpmeter. I only played 2 of the par 3’s but 11 and 15 were 2 of the best I had ever played. The bunkering was superb, as are the bunkers on all holes and right around the courses on the sandbelt. They were tough to avoid and found myself in them on both of these holes. I nearly got up and down for par on both.

Yarra Yarra was an absolute pleasure to play, with the course presented as well as it possibly could. If you get the chance, you will be a fool to pass it up. I’m still waiting to play the other nine and am looking forward to it!
4.5/5 couldn’t give it 5 as I only played 9!

With winter being wetter this year I’ve taken it upon myself to rate some of the better courses, with the mindset of current playability. A number of the "better courses" are suffering and have either been closed or roped off in a number of areas.

Today I played at Yarra Yarra and I have to say that it is slightly better condition than Commonwealth. (Played last Monday – See rating) I played out of a lot of bunkers and I rarely saw one without a decent amount of sand, and not packed down from the rain. The fairways were consistent and the greens were excellent. The opportunity for difficult position placement were endless with some of the greens having big humps in the middle and slopes which will take your ball off the green if it catches one of those.

Unfortunately at the time of the year it appears to be the time for improvements as the 3rd & 4th hole were having major works done. (It looks like the 3rd green has been moved from it’s original position to a straighter shot away from the houses. This hole is temporarily a par 3 to a ’fairway green’ at about 110 mts) The 4th hole was also turned into a par 3, 160 mts but you played from a fairway tee to the original green. The rest of the course played as it normally does and with a bit of wind picking up today, there weren’t too many scores better than our groups handicaps. (45 odd players)

Apart from my golf, the conditions were not attributable to the bad scoring. A very enjoyable course to play with a number of challenging holes. The amenities in the club house have been upgraded and it’s very nice to walk the corridors and look at the memorbilia on show.

Unfortunately I can’t rate it as high as 5 star in it’s current condition (due to works) but come summer I’m sure it would easily get there.

Played here the week Tiger came for the masters and found that the course condition was as good as Kingston Heath. The greens were fast and true and the fairways were like carpet, no one bad lie to be found. There were a couple of easy par 5’s which gave me some eagle puts without too much effort, but some really challenging holes as well. All in all a must play when in Melbourne.

I had a wedding at Yarra Yarra recently and managed to snag a round. It certainly lives up to the reputation and it’s now understandable why there is such a long waiting list to get in.

The condition of the fairways are immaculate and the greens are in pristine condition….a credit to the grounds staff. Agree with Baboon in that difficulty does vary during the round but it still makes you think about each shot before playing.

Only criticism is the variable bunkers. Sometimes they are soft and full of sand, other times they are rockhard…something that would be easily remedied.

I was lucky enough to be invited to a corporate golf day here. A beautiful setting and fabulous course. The clubhouse is generously appointed and very comfortable, they also make a pretty good latte. The course is meticulously well kept with excellent fairways that just run and unpredictable greens that can please and bamboozle at the same time. My only criticism would be that there is some inconsistency with the difficulty of the course which is at times very challenging and then presents a dead straight par 3 or 4 that offers very little challenge beyond getting the ball on the green.

One of my favourites. Grand entry, best looking club house and sensational course, it is the complete traditional package.

Like the other private clubs in this area you are hard pressed to fault it. Greens and bunkers are a delight and fairways generous. The par 3 11th is a great hole, par this and you've done well.

After golf and drink you know you've had a special day. Don't know what it is but there is a great feel to the place.
