Capricorn International Resort, Central Queensland’s premier golfing resort (36 holes) is located on the Capricorn coast at Yeppoon. It is one of the few resorts in Australia which can boast two international standard golf courses.
The new course, which opened for play in early 1992, is awesome. Designed by American Karl Litten (regarded among the top ten designers in the world) this course is rated in the top twenty in Australia. Karl Litten believes the course to be one of his best. The course challenges championship level players as well as the amateur with its bare minimum of clearing and abundance of water hazards and bunkers. It rewards every player with superb scenery and immaculate greens.
The two golf courses are set in 22,000 acres of natural bush and wetlands. Early morning tee shots are always played to a gallery of native Australian birds (149 species at last count) whereas your afternoon shots must take into account the regular balmy tradewinds.

This is a true championship course in excellent condition. We played on a Saturday morning and got around in 3 1/2 hours with no-one in front of us.
The pro shop will only let you play it in a cart, however apart from a very long way between 10th green and 11th tee, it could be walked.
The fairways are in excellent condition with a good even coverage of grass. The greens are in perfect condition and roll beautifully, just a little slower than you would expect.
There are a few blind shots on the course and lots of doglegs, so you need to play it more than once to understand where to hit it.
There are two sets of tees for Men, the Blue tees make it a very long course, par 72, rating 75. The white tees are a good test and unless you hit it very long these are recommended. Still par 72 but rating also 72. The course is very long for women, par 72, rating 74 and a number of the doglegs can’t be reached by other than long hitting women, so plays even tougher.
The price of $75 (non resort guest), including cart is very reasonable for the course presented. It compares favourably with most Resort courses.
One peculiarity is that the card is presented in yards, not metres, so you need to be able to do a conversion or take a rangefinder to know your distances. Well worth a game.
