The island nine is not a bad public course for the price, however I consider the lake nine to be a better layout. The greens were a little bumpy and the fairways very dry and hard. A couple of par 5’s can be 3 shotters if the wind is up and these provide some challenge. The course was a bit traffic affected being in December 2007 when I played it. Also the greens were a little small but is expected for a public track. Would probably be in better nick had it been watered more frequently and can see some potential with the layout, however was not really impressed to the point I’d rush back there.

PROS

  • Well priced with some good par 5's and a couple of mid-length par 3's

Cons

  • Slow smallish greens, dry fairways and a bit traffic affected

The lakes nine sets up great for the longer hitters with some wide fairways and strategically placed bunkers, reminding me a bit of the Vines (Lakes) course, though much shorter. Its also a change from many public courses where you hit short irons into par 4’s all the time. The greens here are a reasonable pace and are also well bunkered, meaning you must hit your approaches at the flags. This makes the course reasonably challenging for better players and a good option for a practice course. It compares a bit to some of Perth’s private course layouts with regard to degree of difficulty. Not a bad option for a reasonable nine hole test and I give it 4 stars, I dont think I’ve given that rating so far for a public course in Perth!

PROS

  • Set up and layout of the holes

Cons

  • Too bad the other two nines arent as good as this one

Played the island nine last week and enjoyed every moment of my time there. The club pro was friendly and helpful, the course was in excellent condition and it wasn’t busy like I expected. Will definitely be back to play the other 18 holes.

PROS

  • Green fees cheap considering quality of service and play
  • Very friendly and welcoming staff
  • Course in great condition

Cons

  • None I can think of

I played here on 9.10.2006 and i think that it was a fantastic course for the money i payed. I paid $20 for 18, and i played in 3.1/2 hrs, fantastic. Great greens and alot of bunkers, the fairways were on the easier side, but still alot of fun.

The pro was a great guy, and the driving range and putting green was great, will go back for sure

The island nine Collier Park has more trees that the lake nine course, which I played both in 37 degree heat. Measures 3081m Par 36 with 2 Par 5s 455-490m with two Par 3s 155-160m and 5 Par 4s ranging from 350-395m. The name ëislandí nine comes from the central island in the lake that surrounds the 1st, 3rd and 4th holes. Overall, the greens here were quicker than the lake nine and was in better condition (fairways and tee-beds) than the lake nine. Unfortunately, the pines course was closed for green coringÖ

The first has a tall tree about 50m from the green that offers a little challenge to either opt to go around it tree-side, over it, or around it water-side. The 2nd and 4th are par 3s that also offer little challenge for those who know their own game and hit straight. However, like the ëlakeí course, the par 4s, I feel, are the island nineís best features. Holes 7-9 are the most challenging with fairways tightening about 220m from the tee. The best hole is the365m Par 4 3rd, that has fairway bunker before the water about 100m from the green. This water then skirts very close to the green, which allows those to clear the water to get on for 2 and have a birdie putt.

Green fees for nine holes is $15 and $20 for 18 holes, regardless which nine you play. Played here 27/2/06 and has great value I feel.

A feature of all of collier parks 3 courses are the wonderful huge greens. An udulating layout with no huge hills makes for a pleasant journey. Well placed water hazards add interest to many of the pine tree lined holes. The rough is very sandy and tough to get out of but the good thing is you rarely lose your ball. Great staff and pros including steve and chris. Best public course in australia.

The Island 9 at Collier park has been recently updated to provide a more challenging par 5 to the complex.

The new changes are admirable with the inclusion of elevated greens and more green side bunkers.

Just wish the locals would look after the greens a little better.
