played 22nd feb. Great 9 in good condition. Not overly long (2,850m) & only 1 hole includes a ’lake’ but doesn’t take from well laid out 9. Bunkers come into play more than Pines course so slight bit more course management involved. Good score available to good shots. Greens slightly softer & slower than Pines 9 but overall they are prob better greens.
Pro shop well stocked with good deals. Drinks are pricey so byo.

This 9 holes sets up very well for the better player, with wide links style fairways, bunkering and undulating holes, many of which have unseen greens from the tee which makes for an interesting experience. It reminded me a bit of the Vines Lakes Course believe it or not, just a great deal shorter but the asthetics were sort of there. The greens are a good pace and reasonably true, some mid-iron approaches were a challenge and a change from most public course which seem to be driver then short iron par 4 courses. I’m even giving this 9 holes a 4 star rating, which I’ve never given to a public course previously on iseekgolf – some call indeed!

PROS

  • Good price, challenging layout for the better player considering its a public course, though there are some longer public courses out there

Cons

  • Greens can be slow, however I found them quite well paced and true when I played there last year

The lake nine has some lovely fairways with good bunkering that sets up well for the bigger hitters. A good choice for the better golfers and good value for money. The greens are good and some holes undulate a bit so that you cant see the green from the tee. The fairways resemble those of the Vines, just a little drier. But great for a public course. I dont think I’ve rated any public course yet in Perth with 4 stars!

PROS

  • Good layout with some solid par 4's, good bunkering and reasonable greens

This course sets up well for the bigger hitters with a slight comparison to The Vines Country Club (Lakes 18) layout, with its nice fairways, bunkering and greens. It is a good option for those who want to practice longer approach shots than on some easier public courses in Perth. This is a good option for a practice course as you must hit your irons at the flags to score well and not just be on the green or off it.

All in All the lake 9 is not a bad course, I played this course last monday njust before I went to uni andbthere was no one out on course – very relaxing.

The course layout for this 9 is pretty good I think, even though it is shorter than the other 2 9 a collier park I believe with this 9 that sometimes you have to choose your clubs alot better since there is alot more bunkers and undulating fairways throughout the 9 holes.

The thing I like most about this 9 hole course and the other courses at collier park is that the fairways a nice and hard. however one thing that they have to fix up are, 1 the greens – they are very patchy, littered with pug marks and too slow, and second the bunkers – there were a quite a few times when i saw bunkers with rocks and pieces of grable in them.

If these two things were fixed up than the the course would be a really good course and very enjoyable to play.

Interms of the pick of the holes the best I liked was the par 4 4th, the par 3 5th and the par 4 7th.

Played the Lake 9 for a 6am tee-off last week with a work mate. Nice crisp morning, and only a few players out that morning.

It does have wide straight fairways, and nicely kept aswell. The 'lake' hole is a nice chip over the lake, with a dropzone on the otherside for those balls that land in the drink.

All in all a nice course, will definately venture back for the Pines and Island holes.

The lake nine is the shortest of the 3 courses at Collier Park, and am told the easier as well. It is definitely less trees that the other two courses, which I played in 37 degree heat. Scoring was consistent, either a 4 or a 6! Measures 2849m Par 35 with 2 Par 5s 466-495m with three Par 3s 150-160m and 4 Par 4s ranging from 330-390m.

The name ëlakeí nine comes from the 150m 5th hole over the lake. Strangely the only water hazard on the lake nine. The first (straight) and ninth (dogleg left) are par 5s that offer little challenge. The 3rd, 5th, and 8th are par 3s that also offer little challenge for those who know their own game and hit straight. However, the par 4s I feel are the lake nineís best features. Most require a straight drive to avoid the fairway bunker and make the dogleg turn and then a second shot gives you choice to take on the greenside bunkers for a birdie putt, or lay-up for par.

Green fees for nine holes is $15 and $20 for 18 holes, regardless which nine you play. Played here 27/2/06 and has great value I feel.
