Set on the spectacular Mornington Peninsula, an easy drive from Melbourne, you will discover the delightful Eagle Ridge Golf Course. Ranked as one of the Top 25 Public Access Golf Courses in Australia, the course welcomes all golfers and offers memberships (Individual and Corporate) as well as excellent facilities to cater for Corporate Golf Events. Eagle Ridge was also recently honoured by the local tourism industry with an award for the ’Best Hospitality Venue’ on the Mornington Peninsula. These two awards cement Eagle Ridge’s reputation as Victoria’s finest corporate golf venues.

In March 1988, 40 acres of land comprising the pre-existing Carlogie Golf Course was purchased with an additional 40 acres at the south end of this parcel also acquired. Major earthworks commenced with the bulldozing of the Carlogie Course and the total reconstruction of an 18 hole, Kevin Hartley designed championship course commenced.

Hartley designed the course modelled on the prestigious Royal Melbourne, his vision for Eagle Ridge to be perceived as the ’Royal Melbourne of the Mornington Peninsula’. The Eagle Ridge Golf Course opened in December 1989.

October 2000 saw the grand opening of the new $6million clubhouse, a Victorian sandstone mansion, adorned with fountains, chandeliers, marble, bay windows, open fireplaces and polished wooden dance floor is the last word in elegance. There’s a grand piano, antique furniture and a design that allows for separate function rooms or an open plan that flows throughout. Complete with a wonderful verandah overlooking the eighteenth green, decorative lakes and an island gazebo, this is now a favoured location for corporate events and functions.

My first time to play here on Sunday and it’s a beautiful course and well maintained, good price for what it’s worth. Very challenging course, has intimidating bunkers, hilly and narrow fairways. We played with a motorised cart and was the right decision because it is a long walk to the next tee on most holes.

The Peninsula link opened made the drive shorter, so I’d go back and play here again!

Played Eagle Ridge no less than 10 times, in summer and winter. Fantastic course, scenery and layout. Worth the drive from Melbourne, each time I go there, it is a great experience and game.

Their management staff are friendly, helpful and provide good advise. We always book cars with GPS as it is course which needs the GPS to provide accurate distance to enjoy the course even more.

Definitely worth giving this course a try. Very close to Cape Shank and all other Mornington courses. Eagle Ridge does not get picked up by your motor vehicle’s Satelite Navigation or GPS system, just drive down Browns Road and you will see it on your left hand side.

PROS

  • Great layout
  • Scenic holes
  • Water hazards around some greens

Im sorry but eagle ridge is a tip

Played most of the mornington courses already and was really looking forward to eagle ridge

Played there yesterday granted there has been a heap of rain

Pro rude wouldn’t do discount deal with three cars in carpark

Fairways and bunkers terrible

Course condition terrible

Save your money and go and play st Andrews or elsewhere

Won’t be back

Absolutely loved this course.
There are a lot of courses going around that are made to be challenging simply by just making it longer. Eagle ridge is not one of those course. It really forces you to think about every tee shot. I think I only pulled ou the driver on about 3 holes.

There are some excellent par 3’s on this course and the course has a nice resort style feel to it which sets it apart from other courses in the area.

Highly recommended.

To anybody who is reading the reviews wondering whether not it’s worth playing… Stop reading and just play it. It is very hard to fault this course. It’s in perfect condition and has a fantastic layout.

PROS

  • Layout
  • Picturesque
  • Condition
  • Value for money

Played last week in very cold wet and blustery conditions and basically had the course to myself. Got the round, GPS cart, and soup at the halfway mark thrown in for less than $45 in a great mid-week package deal.

I used to play down here every now and again, but had leaned more towards Moonah Links in the last couple of years whenever deciding to find a game down on the peninsula.

Going back to Eagle Ridge though, showed me what I’d been missing.

Eagle Ridge is a ti-tree lined links style golf course, and it offers a great test of golf where you will use all of your clubs (not just driver and wedge).

It starts off with a very short par 4, and before you begin your round it begs the question, do you go with your driver or use a mid / long iron for safety instead. Choose the wrong option and you will pay for it, choose the right option and you will do well. It’s that sort of course, giving you options, yet tempting you at the same time.

With the wind blowing from the north for a change, the first few holes played all downwind, yet I still needed to position the ball to take full advantage. The greens were holding irons and wedges very well, yet they are smooth and evenly paced (not slow) at the moment, so if you pick the right line, you will maximise your scoring ability.

The fairways despite it raining, were firm as you would expect from the Mornington Peninsula. The wind is a constant factor on all MP courses and Eagle Ridge is no exception, despite most fairways being well lined by trees. Once the ball goes above the tree line though, be prepared to see the wind take effect. There is some water on the course in the form of lakes, but they shouldn’t really come into play, and are best to be avoided.

Having played a few holes southward, the course then turns back towards the clubhouse (and into the wind on the day I played it). The par 5’s when tackled into the wind are best played safely and planning to hit your third into the green is the sensible option off the tee, rather than risk going for it in two, as the holes play that much longer into the wind.

The par 3’s are all interesting holes of varying length, where the greens size and undulations, along with their surrounding bunkers and landscape, make par a good effort on all of them.

The back nine starts off by again heading in a southerly direction, so it’s a chance to open the shoulders on the par 4’s with your driver before again returning to playing conservatively as the holes turn back into the wind.

In summary, this course suffers a little I guess by direct comparison to it’s "newer and shinier" next door neighbours in Moonah Links, St Andrews Beach, and The Dunes ….. but put it anywhere else on the map, and it would be rated so much higher in terms of quality.

This is one very good golf course, kept in excellent condition all year round, and the facilities and service are just first class.

If you can really enjoy a round of golf in wet rainy, very windy conditions, that’s a sign of a very good golf course in my opinion ……. and Eagle Ridge reminded me of it yet again.

I played Eagle ridge today, weather was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The cart & GPS deal was great value for money, and loved all the par 3’s.

I would suggest playing this if you havn’t already, great for short hitters, longer hitters would have a field day.

Great Winter Special $35 with a cart for 18 holes. Course was in god condition although the fairways take on a dark color in the winter which detracts a little from the aesthetics. But for $35 who cares and it still plays well. Definitely challenging in accuracy but not overly long even from the back tee’s and the greens were reasonable.

9. Bernie_Larkham | Rated | 17 Apr 2010 | Add A Review

Always skipped ER as an option on the MP. But that was a mistake. The course was in fantastic condition today, fairways beautiful and greens pretty quick (though they look as though they need a few more weeks to be tip top, some tram tracks still around from maintenance work).

Enjoyed the layout, not overly long even from the blue tees but if you are not accurate in any part of your game you will be fairly penalised. No Par 3s under 155 roughly and the par 5s were all really 3 shot holes with the wind we had. You need to make your score on the shorter par 4s on the back.

Really enjoyed the course and challenge.

PS the 19th hole is a great way to finish. A 68m pitch over water to an Island green. Not seen it anywhere else but a super concept that should be copied often. A great way to settle who is paying for the beers too!

This course continues to improve each time you go their. Had the pleasure of playing the Hacker cup on Saturday. With the wind up and some tough pin positions the course won on the day. Certainly in the top 10% of courses I have played. The overall condition was very good with my only complaint, though only minor is the condition of the greens with so many green fee players on them suffer to a degree.

Played ER on Sunday 7th June and the course was in excellent condition. The layout will test every level of handicap and I would rate this course among the best public course in Vic. The value also stands up against like courses. My one complaint is the lack of yardage markers on the sprinkler heads.

PROS

  • true, fast and holding greens

Cons

  • No yardage markers apart from the 150's

Played for first time last week – an absolute bargain for $35 including cart. Amazing scenery and views and the par 3’s are stunning. Bunkers are everywhere! And deep. Beautiful water hazards including a waterfall and it’s clean. They even gave us pumpkin soup after nine holes. It’s not Moonah Links, but for $35, I’ll go back as often as possible.

Played Eagle Ridge on Saturday. Fairways were like carpet and the greens hard fair and true. GPS tracking device on carts were a welcome bonus. Definately one of the most underrated courses on the Peninsula. I can’t recall a ’boring’ hole. The fairways are quite tight so placement rather than brute force is paramount.
Will definately be back soon.

Just played their great winter offer – $32 for golf in a cart with soup and roll with 2 x $50 Lobster Cave vouchers – hard to go wrong. The golf course has new Santa Ana couch which is still young, will be great when it starts to grow again. Lots of new tee areas and landscaping. Playing preferred lies on the new couch if you need too – wish I could do that when I play golf all the time! Staff spot on and the beer cold.

Ok the fairways at the moment are in a bit of trouble (very patchy) but they are playing preferred lies down there so it doesn’t really impact on your game, apart from an asthetic point of view. Nevertheless this is still a good course with some really nice holes and despite the state of the fairways still represents value for money. I also found the staff very friendly and I loved the 19th hole (an island green), though probably because I put three within 1.5 metres! (Wish I could have done that on the course proper).

Played this course after recent close and reopen and unfortunately it is not up to scratch. Fairways are very patchy with black dead areas riddling the course from tee to green. Needs at least another year or two before it is up to standard again when it will be quite beautiful. Is challenging in parts with plenty of water hazards and strategically placed bunkers.

Better to spend your hardearned money on the wonderful courses surrounding it and leave this one to the poor members who have to endure the slow recovery process.

Played Eagle Ridge last weekend and it was fantastic despite some dodgy weather. Was an all round good game for my group (we are all different levels) and the Clubhouse was a great place to knock back a beer afterwards. The course will apparently close over the summer to lay couch grass (nice of them not to drag it out over three years!) and tidy up a few things. Will definitely go back when it reopens in March 08.

Really like this course. Have played it a few times now, most recently the Holden Scramble in August 2007. It always presents well and the staff make you feel welcome. Some of the tee shots are a bit daunting and an errant shot can be damaging to your score. The par 3’s all look fantastic from the tees, with bunkers surrounding some to add to the challenge. Some of the specials they charge down there during the week are ridiculously cheap for the quality of the course. To sum it up, it can be a little bit tight but you can usually find your ball after a bad tee shot in a playable position. The whole course presents well and you will find it hard to get a bad lie, even in the rough.

I must admit, was dissapointed after reading all of the hype. Clubhouse and gardens seem to be the drawcard as the course i thought was pretty average. Only hole of interest for me was the par 3 6th. Pretty tough hole if the pin is front right and you hit it back left. I just think for the region there are plenty of other courses I would play first

What a great Golf Course. I have played Dunes, Moonah and 10 others in the top 50 in Aus golf rankings, Eagle is slightly shorter and narrower than most with testing fairways and slick greens the course will test golfers of all abilities. Aesthetically would rate the course and layount highly and the surroundings and especially par 3’s were picturesque and hittable with a high iron unlike most championship courses these days. give it a go and you will be guaranteed a great day out.

Awesome course with heaps of bunkers! Layouts great, big fast greens, fav holes were the par 3’s especially the first one u play which is the 6th hole…i think? To play the course u hav be strategic, not using driver as much and being smart when approaching the green as bunkers are placed in great positions, learned so much from the 1st time i played to the 2nd time as in a 10 shot difference and in more windy conditions, lov the GPS technoligy on the golf carts and yeh do use a cart if u can, fairly up and down. very afforbable to play inc. a cart i recommend eagle ridge to all golfers!

As a big hitter, Eagle Ridge was not a good course for my ego, however for others it was sensational. Tight fairways, with lots of thick rough made a very challenging game.

Earlier that week we had played the Dunes and both Moonah courses, and Eagle Ridge was definitely up to standard.

The staff where sensational, as was the condition of the course. Lots of bunkers and a beautiful setting made this a photographers paradise. As for golf, I can’t wait to get back.

As an aside, I had been told this was a little course, but it is not, I think that it is a little tighter than most making it ‘seem’ a bit shorter.

Stayed at Nepean Country club recently for a couple of nights and had to take my clubs down with me after seeing Eagle Ridge online.

It was certainly worth the effort, what a FANTASTIC course. The course was imaculate, beautiful fairways, bunkers (1st hand experience about 4 times) and greens.

The course is beautiful, but quite challenging. The Par 3s are all surrounded at the front by steep bunkers, actually almost all greens provide challenging sand traps for those trying to better GIRs.

And last of all, the Pro Shop (Denise I think) was the most friendly experience I've had with the possible exception of my local. Very rarely does a pro shop impress as much as the course, but Eagle Ridge did.

Thank you for a perfect round.

Played today and the course is in amazing condition. How they justify letting people have a full round with electric cart for $30 i have no idea. Maybe they are a little off in the head. But hey, suits me just fine. The course is generally quite tight, th fairways are fantastic to hit off (if you manage to land on them) and the rough provides its own challenge most of the time. Whenever you see an open tee shot and want to rip it have a think first as there are usually well placed bunkers to catch stray balls. Theres only one bad whole on this course and its the 17th (by bad i mean in comparison), i nailed my drive right down the centre, no slice, no hook, and stlll wound up in the rough next to a bunker due to the slope. Everyone mentions the 11th and rightly so, stunning. Waterfall on the right, water hazard on the left, slightly down hill par 3 with a nice big landing area. Who could ask for more. All in all A brilliant course that gets five stars from me.

I can sympathise with people who have only experienced this course before 2004 as it was somewhat laborious. Likewise with people who endured the lengthy works that were conducted on the course. But I can safely say that now that everything is complete, Eagle Ridge is one of the best courses in Victoria. Challenging in terms of pin positions and course layout, but beautiful to behold and a pleasure to stroll around on a sunny afternoon. Their winter special is the definition of good value. 18 holes, motorised cart hire and a hearty soup make it an offer too good to refuse. 5 stars and writing this has encouraged me to book for next week. Anyone there on the 17th May 2006, say hi! :)

I was on up in dromana in the holidays and played The Dunes, Eagle Ridge, Moona Links and others and my favorite was moona only because i love links courses.

Eagle ridge is one of the most picturesque courses i have played (Kingsotn health just topping it). The best advice i can give you is to TEE OFF ON A WEEK DAY. I had the whole course to my self and played it in 4 1/2 with me and my two mates. WE loved it.

My fovoure hole was the par three (Not sure on num) with a water fall on the right, lake back left and beaturful gardns surrounding the green. I hit a picting wedge within three metres of the pin.

Overall a great treck and well worth on a week day.

LOVED IT

I played here a few years ago when staying at the Nepean Country Club. 7.30 tee off for 4, bewdy. Well we finally got to tee off at 8.20 and by the time we hit the 10th it was 12.00. And 5 groups were waiting in front of us to tee off. We were so annoyed about the slowness that we walked off. Our social group has booked for July this year and if the round isn't finished in near 4 hours I will never ever go back again. I am not interested in Aesthetic club houses or fountains. I want to hit a golf ball. Eagle Ridge the challenge is yours.

I played Eagle Ridge recently and was amazed at the changes over the last couple of years. Most of the holes have been re-done and work appears to now be complete. The 11th hole with the waterfall and lake is truly spectacular. It's not the easiest course I have played and there are some very interesting holes. At least at Eagle Ridge if you're having a bad round you can enjoy the spectacular landscaping!

I am a regular golfer and have played all of the Mornington Peninsula golf courses. Over the last 3 years I have witnessed the transformation of Eagle Ridge to the most magnificent parcel of 18 holes on the entire Peninsula.

They have even had a suburb name change to The Cups formerly Boneo. All of the bunkers have been re designed and grass faced. It is a real resort course and worth every penny that they charge. We last played in the dead of Winter when only fools, poms and real mad golfers would venture out. The deal they had was for 25 bucks -18 holes of golf, a brand new club car golf cart (man do they drive great, much better than the crap carts they have out lived their use by date at most other places ) then we had free soup, bread rolls and coffee. They also gave a voucher to get 3 golf balls in November and to top all of this off a $50.00 Lobster Cave restaurant voucher.!

The golf course was full and a tough track, it is tight and at 6116 meters longer than most on the peninsula. All holes give you a chance but if you go off course the trees or water will take your ball every time.

So if you haven't played or played there some time a go do your self a favour and play the hidden gem that was last year rated by a golf magazine in the top 25 public access golf courses in Australia.

Anyone thinking of doing an MBA would be well advised to choose this place to study. An excellent lesson in taking an enjoyable track in the mid 90's and through developement pushing away all members, many regulars and group bookings. Played it 5 times but not gone back since they turned. Having got that off my chest it was an ok track, generally well presented, High to mid h/cappers will enjoy it, low h/cs will eat up some shortish holes.

Arriving early for a 6:00am tee-off, the early morning vista from the clubhouse across the lakes and course is simply breathtaking! We arrived super early and no-one was there - except two trays of freshly-baked, wonderful bread rolls. Overcoming temptation, we put in a bit of time on the practice green waiting for staff to show up...time well spent, as we found the greens to be lightening fast. It's the first time I've actually had staff mowing and grooming the greens just before we played on them.

They hand you a scorecard when you hand over the readies. But there's no course map on it...so you have two options; pay $4.00 for a nice little booklet full of measurements...or pay $6.50 for a GPS unit that you can affix to your cart. We chose the booklet as you can use it again and again at no extra expense...plus it has some good tips and all the greens measurements and slopes marked.

The first thing I noticed is that this course is not long. There is no need to grab for a wood at any stage, irons are just fine, and the extra accuracy pays off as most holes require accuracy. Of course the temptation is occasionally there to break out the launcher and give it a huge whack...especially the Par 5 18th.

The next thing I noticed how pretty this place is. Going on the other reviews, they have spent a lot of time tarting this course up. With nice seating, drink machines, toilets and other facilities - this has real asthetic appeal. My wife likes "pretty" courses and I'm sure she will absolutely love this course.

The Par 3 11th hole would have to be the most memorable with a water carry, picturesque lake complete with boat shed and pier, waterfall and beach.

There's not a lot that isn't going for this course (apart from the 1 hour drive from my house).

I recently played at Eagle Ridge Golf Course and found it to be one of the best courses I've ever played on. Even off the course all the staff were extremely friendly. New additions to the course also impressed me, with the course becoming quite challenging. I really liked the variety on the course, with the front 9 requiring 100% accuracy off both the tee and on the fairway. The back nine however allows for a little more inaccuracy but contains a majority of the sand bunkers and water on the course. Overall I really enjoyed my expierence at Eagle Ridge Golf Course and would recommend the course to any golfer.

Played here in early August 2003, too much like a park, and half of the holes were "under construction".

A total waste of time and money, and did not a very "interesting" course.

Should have played an extra round at Moonah Links.

34. | Rated | 19 Sep 2003 | Add A Review

Surrounded by high quality courses, Eagle Ridge probably suffers a little, as it is merely a "good" course. It's layout suffers from trying to be half a parkland style and half links, without successfully achieving either in the true sense, but the course quality and the challenge of many holes are good enough to enjoy the round.

Opinions are like backsides, everyone has one but ot me, rating Eagle Ridge as 19th in Best Public Access Course in Australia is like rating Adam Sandler as a comic genius...sure, some of it's good but most of it is over hyped even though mildy enjoyable.

I have played plenty of worse course's and would never knock back a game at Eagle Ridge but for the fee's there are plenty of better places to spend your hard earned. The course is usually presented in great condition and there are plenty of challenging shots that will confront you on your way around. Here is an extremely challenging par 4 on the front 9 (from memory) that requires a blind right to left drive between thick tea tree to a narrow, sloping landing area before a down hill approach shot to a long skinny green, this is one hole I look forward to but usually walk away from disapointed. The club house is magnificent but a little pricy for your average hacker.

Anyone who visits Eagle Ridge will have a great time, just not as great as some might make it out to be...then again, that's just my opinion!

They doubled the price of green fees to pay for the overhaul of the clubhouse, they are now in line with other prices in that sandbelt area however, the course is not.

The front nine is quite tight with a couple of challenging holes, while the back nine is open links style and quite unimpressive.

Totally over-rated for the price, go down the road to the Dunes!

Eagle Ridge, is not done justice by it's placing as the 19th best public access course in Victoria.

Eagle Ridge is a great course with clean fairways, difficult rough and a fabulous club house. The 9th, coming back towards the clubhouse is excellent, and the 18th, also coming straight towards the club house is beautiful and one to remember. Some other holes are the 13th, I think, that is a short par 3 with water to the front and right, with a slope at the back. The water feature placed on this hole is absolutly magnificient.
