Maitland Golf Club

Hunter Valley, NSW | User Rating: Rate-3 (3.5) | Add A Review

Maitland Golf Course is an 18 hole layout with a par of 71 (5783m) for the men and Par 72 (5178m) for ladies. Water comes into play on many holes, particularly on the back nine. The gently undulating course is a haven for wildlife and is challenging enough for the serious golfer yet very enjoyable for those who just enjoy the exercise.

Played at Maitland in an open medley comp recently. Had a very enjoyable day. The pro shop staff were very friendly, as were alot of members that were out on the day. The course was a real treat. Alot of fun holes, which made for easy scoring. Would definetly play there again.

The ’golfer’ below obviously plays the Augusta National every other Saturday!!
What on god’s green fairways were you basing your comparison on?
Maitland GC is THE best golf course in the Hunter region for value for money. A great, challenging course that is well maintained (no, its not in Golf Digest’s top 100, but seriously, the fairways are lush and the greens are certainly acceptable for us ’non-touring-genuine-immitation-professionals’)! The staff are extremely friendly as are the members (I had called a group through as I had lost my ball in the rough- they proceeded to help me look for it instead!!!)The clubhouse is immaculate and a great place to spin your’shoulda, coulda, woulda’s’after a round. If you want 7 day membership at $525, show me a better course for that kind of value!!! Maitland GC- Proud to call it MY home.

I Played there on Australia Day !
What a disappointment !
You could call it a goat track but that would be overstating the condition of the course and in particular the greens!

Being a member of Maitland until this year, I can safely say this is still one of my favourite mid range courses in the Hunter Region (note: the only reason I didn’t rejoin was I had moved from the area). Nice open fairways, well maintained. Greens well kept with a medium pace. Water comes into play mainly on the back nine, although a new dam between the 2nd, 3rd and 7th makes sure a wayward shot is punished. Clubhouse is superb for a finishing drink or meal.

I do not agree with comment below. While it is true the greens are not to the quaility they have been in the oast they are still not terrible and the grass long as stated. I like this course. It is definatley hard enough to challenge serious golfers yet playable for social golfers.

I have been a member of maitland for 5 years now and in the past 12 months the course has been going down hill fast, the greens are dying so the grass is left long to make them look a little better, and this makes putting near imposible. Fairways are nowhere as good as they used to be and due to the lack of maintanence this is only going to get worse. Would not reccomend this course to my worst enemy. Will not be re-joining.

Only played Maitland GC because the Vintage wasn’t available (NSW Open) and was very pleasantly surprised.

A hidden gem in the Hunter Valley. Great course, well maintained. Reasonable length course. Not too diffficult, not too easy. Not much water, which is a plus. And only $26 for 18 holes!

PROS

  • Price
  • Little water
  • Well maintained
  • Not too difficult

Cons

  • A bit of a hike if you're staying in the wine country part of the Hunter Valley (Pokolbin etc). About 45 min drive, and the traffic on the New England Highway is atrocious.

As a beginer i found Maitland golf course very good for someone of my level but not too easy. Fairways are of good quality and the locals were friendly as were the staff.

PROS

  • Great clubhouse and proshop, some easy and some hard holes.

This course is a well maintained "suburban" course bolstered by having very good club on site and an well stocked pro shop.

The course is primarily well maintained kikuyu fairways and tees. Greens are reasonably well maintained, bunkers are few and far between and not challenging.

The course is not difficult with many short holes including some easy to reach in 2 par 5s. It is quite suitable for social players or the better player wanting to have a casual hit.

On the day I found the slow play horrendous (first 5 holes – 2 hours, we gave up after 15 holes) and was disappointed that despite the slightly pricey greens fees for an average course that there was no monitoring by the pro shop to hurry things up.
