Since the new irrigation system has settled in, and with some new tee placements, the course is playing really well.

More attention has been paid to the condition of the greens, and the fairways are even better than they were before the new irrigation.

Whilst some of the holes do have nice open mouths off the tee, they often suck you in to making a mistake by putting your ball into the very well placed water and sand.

The pro-shop staff are great, and nothing is too much to ask.

I like this course more than any other in Sydney.

Castle Hill Golf Club is situated in the north western suburbs of Sydney. The course is mostly very wide off the tee and the greens are huge with lots of slope to them.

There are lots of good holes in the layout. The main ones being the 2nd – 181m downhill par 3 with water left and green side bunkers right and the 11th – 170m par 3 with water right and huge green side bunker left and a smaller bunker right.

The signature hole on the course is the 18th – 500m par 5 with double water carry. Off the tee the carry is only about 110m, however the carry for the second shot can range from 60m to 260m depending on how long the tee shot is and how far right you went off the tee. I am a member of Castle Hill and can tell you that a member once had 23 on this hole in a monthly medal a few years ago. The hole is relatively simple if you stay left off the tee though.

PROS

  • Course is quite scenic with the 3 of the 4 par 3's having water massively in play
  • Practise facilities are very good with brand new chipping green, two putting greens, practice driving range and warm up nets
  • New irrigation system means course is in decent condition all year round

Cons

  • Greens are a bit bumpy as course gets huge amounts of play throughout the year
  • Green fees off approx $60 are a bit over priced
  • The speed of play is often very slow

$60 for the Monday open comp is an absolute steal. Played CHCC in junior pennants about 8 years ago and the course has not changed to dramatically in that time, and the condition has remained perfect.

You will not find a better pro shop and you definately will not meet a club pro who is more friendly. I can see why all the members of this club are very happy people.

The course is not very challenging, and easy to score well if you know how to approach the pins. Most of the greens are quite large and if you are not accurate with your irons to the green, you will be in 3 putt territory. So be sure to make use of the practice putting green before your round.

PROS

  • Half-way house
  • Good Practice facilities

Nice course. Greens are hard and pretty quick. There are some great holes, a lot of water, many bunkers. Its a long course, so power can be helpful. The pro shop is one of the best i have ever been in, it just has everything. overall 7.5/10

In my view Castle Hill is the best course in Sydney that is accessible to most golfers. Ie. Very difficult to get a run at The Aussie or The Lakes.

Everyone is extremely friendly, and the course is much more difficult than the first glance may portray.

It has a great mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, and accurate setting of approaches is rewarded, in the same way that inaccurate ones are punished.

Wow! what an amazing golf course this is, the layout is beautiful and the course is very challenging…fairways were flush although the greens were not at its best, still one of the top courses in Sydney. Only complanint I have is the lack of distance markers. Do not come here if you cant get the ball out of a bunker, they’re everywere and have massive faces. Again, one of the best courses I’ve played, loved it.

What an awesome course.
My first time playing in sydney and wow!
this course is a ripper!
greens were pure,
but more than that the layout was absolutely stunning.
Accuracy is essential no matter how wide the course is.
Placement can save you a shot, make you gain a few.

Course was in very good condition last week – and played very tough in windy conditions. We did however encounter a couple of problems:

- In the middle of the stableford comp there were a few ladies playing match play which slowed it right down to almost 6 hours. Even though on the 18th one player put at least 4 in the water – and we don’t think it was ’dormie’coming up 18. Social golf is ok on a comp day if it is a bit quiet, but "match play" should be stopped. I have never played a comp in under 5.25 hours there.

- Also, it took us a good 10min to check in at the proshop. One person to enter you in the comp (5min) and another to take your money afterwards (5min). The proshop operations could be a lot easier and less complicated.

Thats me being picky – still had a great day!

PROS

  • hard, fast greens
  • mint fairways
  • great view from clubhouse

Cons

  • speed of play
  • confusing system in the proshop
  • Always has temp holes in play

One of the nicest courses that i’ve played by far. If you go here with the idea in your head that your goin to have an easy game, think again. It’s got great farways, greens are second to nun & the staff are friendly as can be. Highly rccommened this course to anyone up for a challenge.

I played here last Sunday in the comp, the course is such a tough test of golf – it was raterd 75 for the day. Each hole requires you to think about your golf shot and the greens were very tricky. My advice: get out there if you are given the opportunity because the course certainly wont let you down.

Recently had the opportunity to play the course.

Very impressed with the course and its layout, a credit to the Committee and the Ground Staff.

Course was in great conditions, and if the greens had been any faster, they would have won an F1 race; very tricky.

A most enjoyable day.

I had the pleasure of having a game at Castle Hill Country Club recently and I could not have been more impressed.

The course was in excellent condition an the staff from the pro shop to the bar were great.

On Tuesday's the course is open to Corporate Days and the prices are very resonable for everything you get for your dollar.

I am looking forward to getting back there.

Exceptional layout with numerous challenging holes ie. 2nd par-3 with water hazard on the right with bunkers and out-of-bound on the left, short par-4 on the 6th protected by front bunkers that requires accurate approach shot to avoid water at the back. Picturesque par-3 11th and par-5 18th signature hole are also worth mentioning.

Allday half-way house serving food and drink is an added bonus to the golfers who play at the course. The course is well maintained and the location is scenic.

Castle Hill is a good course with some memorable holes. The 18th being one of those. Par 5 with water in play on the first 2 shots. This hole can wreck a good round.

They have done a lot of work on it over the last 10 years or so, & I think it has been for the better.

Generally in reasonable condition.
