played a round on 19/04/09 morning, the starter staff made us felt unfriendly and uncomfortable considering its a resort golf course. The green were true and reasonably fast, the out course was definitely more enjoyable 9 compared to In.
The fair way grass seem to have these "cross breed" of different grass which makes it look very unpleasant (considering its a resort course).

I am very "SHOCKED" to see what the tee box looked like when i teed off the 1st Tee, terrible impression when i saw how bumpy, and pretty much no grass on the area where you tee off. We were almost teeing off on dirty, they certainly should have moved the tee box back and forth to maintain the tee box in an acceptable standard. Especially the first whole.
The course plays fairly short but require some careful thinking on certain tee off and approach angles.

The overall round was enjoyable but the for price paid the round of golf is no where near expectation and there are better resort courses around the area with the similar price.

Had to ask to receive ’COMPLIMENTARYGLASS OF BEER, WINE OR SOFTDRINK’.

PROS

  • Course with nice design layout, true and fast green.

Cons

  • Terrible maintenance of tee's (especially 1st) and some of front 9 fairway, a few unfriendly staff.

Ok overall experience. Course management seemed generally disorganised. Our booking hadn’t been uploaded by the staff even though made over 48 hrs in advance, which resulted in a delayed start. Would expect the greens to be a bit more user friendly for a resort course. No real drinks or food service on the course which was disappointing.

the course was wet and was in need of mowing. No fault of the course management as there has been a lot of rain recently. Overall taking this into account, the course was in reasonable condition.

We have enjoyed the day. Thank you very much.

PROS

  • Relaxed atmosphere. Nice course.

Cons

  • Did not receive 'COMPLIMENTARYGLASS OF BEER, WINE OR SOFTDRINK'.

If you are playing with friends who don’t play regularly, this is a nice course to play.As far as short courses go, it is enjoyable.

The greens were fast, true and receptive to short irons.

I found it difficult to find the 100mtr & 150mtr fairway markers on some holes, plus with the bigger greens ,we couldn’t work out the yardage to the pin.

$60 is about the right price for this course…

Course in good condition.Staff friendly and attentive.Need to have clear directions to faciltiate ingress and egress to the course with the temporary? road deviation now in place.

The course is not long at all considering it is good a “resort course”. However it is nice to play a round with shorter holes once and a while, and it does produce shorter shots to green, and therefore more birdie oppurtunities. You rarely have to use drive, iron or wood enough. The 18th is a good hole, can be reached with 2 good shots. Most par 5’s are reachable. A bad shot can often be found due to the course being open. Course condition was fairly good, except for the greens not receptive, a long shot to green does not stick to the surface much. Wind can significantly change a holes character.

Although my day was enjoyable, you can get much better value for money compared to some other courses around the area for a similar price.

As a 2nd rate course compared to the “Pines”, the course is fairly good, however does lack the challenge Pines offers which is fairly obvious due to the length of the holes.

Ps. don't be tempted in bombing a drive to some "reachable" par 4's. Play safe and you will have a very short shot to the green.

3.6/5

I don’t think too many people walk off this course and feel as though they’ve got value for money. It’s another resort course lacking character. I guarantee the service from the staff will be excellent, but you’ll be left wanting more and knowing the Pines is just next door will only add to your woes…

Played The Palms course in late March and on the whole had a lovely day out.

The service on the day was impeccable, friendly and professional. Could not ask for better.

The layout proved both enjoyable, and with some well placed water hazards, quite challenging for a high handicapper like myself, but I imagine a good stroke maker would not be pushed too hard to make handicap.

With the summer rain the course was generally in very good condition. The fairways in particular were in great shape, with a good lie guaranteed for any well placed shot. Greens were good on the whole, fast and true. Foreign grass on some back nine holes, but not causing problems yet.

The only real negative was the bunkers, they’re awful. Hard sand, rocks and clay so close the sand surface it came out as a divot.

Definitely good value with the iseekgolf discount voucher.

Played here twice last week. Whilst not the most challenging course I had an absolute great time. From bag drop through to on course drinks cart the service was fantastic. The bunkers were a little rough with rocks in a few. With the discounted rate well worth a look

Played here late last year…greens were decent, fairways fairly ordinary in places to be honest. Not a bad course by any means, but certainly not a world beater either.

There are plenty of other top quality layouts…at a similar price… more worthy of your hard earned dollars in my opinion.

Played here 16/2/08. Its a very traditional resort style course. As you drive into the pro shop you actually see the pines course [members only] and it looks really beautiful. “The Palms” on the other hand is a step down. Nice fairways, very flat and fast greens and the fairway bunkers do need a touch more sand.

A couple of really great holes.

The staff are friendly. The facilities are a little dated [think mid 1990’s deco] but overall a friendly course.

NO GPS in carts.

PROS

  • Friendly staff

Played this course last weekend and really enjoyed the golf. Course was in good condition and is a great course for social or serious player. Greens were very fast which made putting difficult but otherwise cant fault the course. Staff were friendly upon arrival and tee-off though could not be found once out on course.

I played the Palms back in August, and found the course to be very nice across the 18 holes. Coming from Canberra the weather was great low 20’s, this was about 2-3 times the temp in Canberra. The staff were very good and friendly, the Tee’s & fairways were in good condition & the greens were nice and smooth, alought somewhat flat. Not too many big breaks. With the wind coming and going throughout the round I found the the course to be a good test of my golf. With the par five’s reachable in two with a good tee shot, it provides good fun when playing matchplay against a mate. A two putt birdie on the 18th helped me to a 1up victory over 2 rounds. In the end I was reasonably happy with 9 over. And considering this is Sactuary Cove’s second course. They have done well. 8/10.

Very nice: scenic, not too much water, very open. Miss the fairway and you are very likely to find your ball.

Played this course last week and was very disappointed for the money. Although the facilities were great the course itself was not in very good condition. Fairways were good, however the greens were not as there were weeds prevalent on most of them. The layout of the course was OK whilst not particularly challenging. There are far better courses in this area for the same or less money.

My wife & I were so looking forward to playing at such a highly rated course. On the day, the course staff were very good & helpful, however it was disappointing to find the greens had been very recently cored & sanded (no mention when booking). We may have chosen to play there a week or so later had we been informed. At leas places like Cyprus Lakes tell you at the time of booking.

The carts at Santuary Cove have also had the GPS systems removed although they are still touted in the course information. Playing on a strange course is much more enjoyable when you have a little assistance such as a GPS system, some people may even save losing a few balls, if they really knew where there next shot was heading. I’ll certainly have a list of questions to ask the Pro shop staff next time I make a booking at courses like Sanctuary.

Played today in a steady 15 knot plus wind which made some holes a real challenge and other shorter than what they were. They are preparing the greens to be cored and dressed in the coming week and there was hardly any grass on the greens making them like sheet ice.

Didn't matter if you attaked the pin from 200 metres out or 2 metres out, the result was the same... fly past the pin and hopefully the worst result was a bunker 30 foot on the other side of the green or worse still, water!!

I believe the greens will be right about mid March.

I was disappointed with the maintenance of the tees, fairways and bunkers in general considering the green fees charged. Except for the comments above you can tell once the maintenance is completed on the greens they will be very good.

All in all a good day.

At least the nineteenth didin't charge like a wound bull like Royal Pines does... If you are playing Royal Pines and want a quiet beer afterwards, have an esky in the boot!!!

After playing the palms numerous occasions in the last few years, we were slightly disappointed to find on the weekend (13.01.07) they have taken the GPS from the carts due to technical difficulties. Marshall was unable to advise if the system would be returning. However, this takes little away from an enjoyable round with the course in excellent condition.

I have played The Palms a few times and I think it is unique amongst modern resort courses. For the higher handicapper, you don't have to risk driver off every tee in order to have a chance of hitting a green in regulation and you might even snare a birdie or two. For the long hitter, the wind direction tempts a water carry one day, whilst ruling it out the next. You will play the course completely differently depending upon the northerly or southerly wind direction. There are some great holes, such as the 7th with the island green and the palm-lined 18th (made famous by the Adam Scott tv ads). Holes like the par 3 5th and 13th and the long par 4 17th are certainly no snack, particularly off the back tees. The greens are quite fast and are not rollercoasters and always seem to be in top condition. Sure its not Moonah Links or Brookwater, but you don't have to slog it out over nearly 7000 metres, pay $130+ and take 5 hours to get around either. The Palms is more fun and better value than any other resort course I can think of.

Played here on Sunday 9 April 2006. $89 for 18 holes, including cart. Although I don't feel ripped off I was somewhat disappointed by the Course, for what I paid. It's a nice course, but nothing spectacular, and very boring greens... no hills or undulations and only averagly maintained. I don't think I'll pay $89 (or more) to play here again.

I felt this was a course made for the mid to high handicappers, or simply those who enjoy a hit on a course with enough challenge to require concentration, but not so much that you can't enjoy sociable interaction with your playing partners.

There are a few holes on the front nine around the water that require careful shot making, but by and large scoring should never blow out.

The back nine is a little harder, but again conservative golf can pay off with reasonable scoring.

For the serious golfers, there are better challenges.

I experienced the ultimate high and low at The palms -3 over on the front and 16 over on the back. The course was a lot shorter than I was expecting and I only used a wood twice off the tee. Four and five irons were the go. Recent fairway renovations had us playing preferred lie throught the green although you hardley ever got a bad lie if you hit the fairway. Greens were alright to put and I was told they used to be a alot slicker. Resort is staring to look dated but I guess now they have new owners it may be overhauled and hopefully they will put more money back into the golf course. Enjoyed the day overall.

Nowhere near as difficult as the Pines. This course is always in good condition, although the first time I was there the greens had some bare areas. This was not evident on my next trip.

A real pleasure to play anytime! The GPS carts are a real bonus too!

There is nothing to fault this course with...except the green on the 18th is a real nasty one...if you are not careful with the approach shot there is all sorts of trouble waiting for you.

It's a treat to have course attendants making circuits of the course to make sure everyone is playing to speed and telling people to slow down to avoid bottlenecks.
