Played here about 5years ago and had an absolute shocker round, the bloke I was playing with was a novice at best and it was a terribly cold and windy day so don’t have great memories. I remember it being well priced for 18 holes so got value for the amount of shots I had lol. Didn’t think the course was in great condition but would like to play again and give it a proper rating then.

Played here today , great course nice and open for a (very) high handicapper like myself. Really nice views and a good mixture of holes. Will try and play here as much as I can as it’s very relaxing and rewarding.

The staff in the pro shop were extremely friendly and a great help. Well done.

Agree with BOBSTEV. This is great quality, cheap, and next door to the city. A nice relaxing arvo of golf if there are no groups in the way.

Everytime I play it, I wonder what could be done to rectify the 8th/9th hole combination.

The Maylands course is always in excellent condition and all facilities are very well run, a credit to the management. A flat course in nice surroundings by the river. Other public courses could learn a lot from how well this facility managed.

The Positives: This is a fantastic lush, green course with good firm greens and cushion like fairways…..being so close to the river (as this is reclaimed land) ensures that this course is green all year round which is refreshing for people who play golf in Perth. The practice facilities and bar are great, with the driving range being one of the few in Perth that doesn’t have those damned mats. The pro shop staff have upped there game a bit and a few of the arrogant dickheads have appeared to have moved on.

Cons: This is bit of a boring course for decent players despite it’s length owing to the lack of bunkers, unfortunately the introducing these is would upset the water table on such low lying ground …..further it does get pretty busy on weekends…..but during the week you have practically got the course to yourself.

Highly underrated course in my opinion….and if it had the bunkers and some elevation and slope on the greens and fairways it would easily surpass Wembley golf course.

Having recently emigrated from North Wales (june 2010) i was looking forward to playing golf in Perth , i recently played maylands with some work collegues of mine . I was very impressed with the overall layout of the course and it’s facilities , nice wide fairways and very good greens , the greens on the day were very fast ( compared to what i’ve been use to back in Wales ) which reflected on my score for the day. Lack of bunkers was a big surprise for me as i think it would make the course a little bit more challenging , the fairways were in good condition too. All in all a very pleasent day’s golf was had that day , will be looking forward to playing it again.

This golf course is nice and close to the city and easy to get to. It’s fairways and greens are well kept and over all the entire course is not the most challenging but it does make good practice for high handicappers. However if you have time during the week to play at this course then I strongly recommend it. Otherwise take a magazine or a book while you wait on the weekends. The course is always overbooked on weekends with outsiders booked on top of social groups. Make a complaint and be up for an argument with the pro shop like as to why you have just paid money for 4 holes in 2 hours with no pre warning there is slow play. However I think over all management of this golf course would be better.

Tucked away at the end of the Maylands peninsula on the site of the old Perth Aerodrome, this attractive little course is less than 15 minutes from the CBD and an easy walk on flat terrain. It affords some wonderful views across the Swan River to the city from various points, especially from the cafe / bar, and the ponds have copious birdlife. An interesting feature is a plaque on each tee-marker dedicated to pioneers of Western Australian aviation with a brief description of their careers.

A lot of work has been done in the past couple of years. With many holes being extended, albeit slightly, the course now measures 5714m. Practice facilities are excellent. Apart from the ubiquitous driving range and putting green, a waste area that used to be a dilapidated mini-golf course has been renovated into a second practice putting green and a chipping green that allows shots of up to 60 or 80 meters, as well as a couple of bunkers.

The fairways are generous and well-grassed, the second cut is extremely forgiving, and the greens are well maintained; as good as any but the most expensive courses around Perth. As has been said by others, most of the holes require little imagination, and a decent drive is all you need to put you in birdie territory. That being said, there are a few holes that require some thought for the mid to high handicapper.

The course desperately needs some bunkers, but the greenkeepers have done their best, leaving the grass around the greens a little fluffy to make chipping more difficult. The trees are now getting some size and have narrowed some holes considerably. It’s also a shame that the designer didn’t take better advantage of the several water features which in most cases only come into play for an extremely wayward shot that misses the green by 10 or 20 meters.

All in all, a very pleasant course. With an ACR of just 68 it won’t challenge low handicappers, but it’s enough of a test for mid to high handicappers without being soul-destroying. At only $21 for 18 holes on the weekend ($19 weekdays) it really is exceptional value. If you haven’t been there for a while, it’s worth another visit.

I have played Maylands Penninsula around a dozen times now and have found it to be up there with the best (if not the best) public course in Perth. As a 5 handicapper, this course has some longer holes despite being only a shorter than average course, to keep you on your toes and encourage you to hit the right club in the right places. The greens are large, very true and a credit to the greenstaff the only negative thing I feel the course lacks is variation in elevation or bunkering, thought it is compensated for by the thick rough that grows around the frons and sides of most greens. You pretty much have to play a wedge like a bunker shot to stop it close sometimes and that takes confidence. The 8th is an interesting short Par 4 though it can either be attacked from the tee or played with respect with a short iron then a wedge, depending on how you are striking it on the day. It is a THINKING hole. The most challenging hole Id say is the 12th, a doglegg left par 4 whick requires an accurate drive with the driver or 3 wood to miss a water hazard on the left, leaving a mid-short iron into the green. The course has a lovely clubhouse, bar and eating area, with discounts offered on the weekends and music entertainment also. This course is great for beginners, ther average player and also the low markers to perfect their games for the longer courses in the area. I am giving this course a solid 4/5 rating and recommend anyone looking for great course conditions to give this track a go. It is arguably the best public course Ive ever set foot on. Right up there with Kwinana and Altone Park on the social course scale in Perth.

the course is in a pleasant location, is flat and most holes fairly straight. greens and fairways are in very good condition for a public course. The HUGE downside however is the slowness of play particularly on weekends. If you enjoy playing nine holes in 2 1/2 hours waiting on every shot then its for you.

Designed by David Breen - former Head Professional at Wembley golf course and now owner of Drummonds Golf in Osborne Park. Most of the greens are raised and have been built that way to allow for bunkers to be added at a later date and to also allow drainage as the ground is very close to the water table. The short par 4 8th used to be a par 3 and the par 3 ninth was a sort dogleg right par 4 - in my opinion this was a better configuration to what it now is. The greens are generally good and are true so will detect a off-putting stroke .The fairways are well maintained. The best hole is probably the par 4 12th. A good course close to Perth.

I had wanted to try this course for a long time but never got around to it. Played it on a recent Friday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. Great location and superb condition for a public course used particularly by hackers.

Yeah, its flat but the condition of the fairways and greens is up there with some of the better courses in Perth. The greens on the day were fast and difficult to get your ball to stiop dead on, but rolled truly and very flat. That would probably be the most negative comment I could make is that they lack diversity and challenge. There are no bunkers either which is a bit of a let down.

The fairways are generous but the actual cut of them makes them alot narrower if trying to stay straight and achieve the best lie for your approach. The rough is also generous but its sandy condition makes a good shot out of it more challenging. some well placed swails would i am sure make the course not only a little more interesting but add a few challenges as well.

Clubhouse, cafe and pro shop are excellent. and its location is first class with many of the longer holes running alongside the Swan River. except for the lack of bunkers I would say its condition is better than that of Burswood.

This course was built on an old airstrip used during the war. Not much was done as far as changing the general contour of the area and it still remains flat. Some holes still look like runways being wide long and completly flat. This is the course to go to if you wanted to try a new driver out. Big wide fairways are begging for the ball to be belted. Not much challenge for the better player here. No big trees, no bunkers and fairly flat slow greens are the norm. Good pro shop, bar facilities and putting green but not much to offer the low handicapper. A good course for beginners and weekend hackers.
