This place has a fantastic layout with lots of elevated tee’s, but being the first time that I have played sand ‘greens’ I must say that I am not impressed. I believe that sand should be used to protect a green not to make one. That is the only negative I have for the course though and the price does justify that. The rough is some of the most unforgiving I have ever played.

Well worth a lazy round if you are in the area, Augusta Hillview is one of the most ideally located courses in the South West with views over the Blackwwod River and Flinders Bay on the front nine and million dollar views over the Indian Ocean on the back 9. The course is levated about 500m above seal level in total seclusion just 5 minutes easy drive from the townsite.

Don’t let the sand/oiled greens deter you, the course offers excellent variation and challenges while giving the average swinger excellent value for money. The oiled greens do not take too long to master and do reward agressive and straight putting and chipping.

The front nine has several signature value holes starting from the first a long dog leg right that drops 70m from tee to green. The Second and fourth also provide evelate tees with wide forgiving fairways.

The front nine ends with one of the most daunting ninth holes you would want to see. A 500m par 5 all up hill, fortunately the width of the fairway lessen the pain. Despite the apparent nastly looking fairway the ninth does see its fair share of birdies and pars.

The Back nine starts with a cluel blind dogleg left par 4, followed by a 200m straight par 3. From there is a series of long par 4’s some with blind tee shots or elevated greens most with undulating fairways that with the right placement will see your ball roll on and on.

The wind does play into consideration, particularly with the sea breeze on the back nine later in the day, but careful club selection will reward the smart player and there is nothing like hitting a driver with the assistance of a full tilt Indian Ocean sea breeze 300m above seal level.. Grip it n Rip it..

The biggest problem a golfer will have will be concentrating on the course instead of the view. At Just $10 a round you would need to go a long long way to find better value on a truley unique and interesting course. If the green were grassed thsi course would rate much higher

I played this course on 30Sep06 and it was windy and cool, with occasional showers. Green fees are $10 using an honesty box and the greens are indeed sand scrapes as the other reviewer has mentioned, not grass as described in the course details.

Although it shares a name, the course shares nothing else in common with that 'other' Augusta. It's near a small town of the same name in south-west WA and is definitely a country course, with barely another soul in sight during a Saturday afternoon. (well it was AFL grand final day and the West Coast Eagles were playing and winning, so probably not surprising)

The course is isolated and is built through rear dunes and thick native coastal vegetation, so is quite tranquil. There's nothing spectacular about it but the 18 holes have enough variety to keep the round interesting. Keep an eye out for the huge Black Boys (grass trees) on the 10th - they are as big as normal trees rather than the typical shrubs elsewhere in Australia.

The course has Sand/Oil greens, but apart from that it is great.

Undulating fairways and wonderful bushland make for great views and wonderful golf. The course uses an honour system for paying and if you put the ball in the rough you can give up.

At the end of the day you get to say that you have played Augusta, and for a lot less than most.
