On the improve. New Greenkeeper has done a fantastic job. Greens in good nick. Pin positions were crazy. But played 20 holes in 3 and a half hours. Much improved! Need accurate measurements on holes.

PROS

  • Get through 10 holes quick.
  • Green solid
  • Dedicated Greenkeeper
  • $11-13 very good. Par opportunties. Not overly hard

Cons

  • Lots of par 3s. So short course. Not a lot of variety.
  • Measurements on tees not clear.

Albany Links is a good short course, although some of the holes are a little short. They have done some work on it over the years and there are some good holes where you can let rip (driver wise) and give you a bit of a workout, but great for teaching people how to play golf.

Great links course and very friendly members. We played in the comps with no problem and enjoyed the course. The weather conditions define how tough or easy it can be, the course is designed in true links style (it is so close to the sea that the 12th hole runs along the beach with wonderful views of whales frolicking in the whale season). There are 4 holes on each nine running away from the clubhouse, then on the front nine 5 holes back and on the back nine, one par 3 across then 4 back. The course was established in 1898 and so the humps and bumps associated with the layout are totally natural. Most of the fairways are not level and so the ball can bounce in different directions almost at will, however the design is such that the edges of the fairway and beginning of the rough are designed not to penalise a good shot, but anything starting off the fairway will cause problems. This is a very traditional course and well worth playing. The fairways and greens are watered, and in good condition. The greens are never really quick, but are large and have very subtle borrows that are hard to spot. We thoroughly recommend playing here and, if you have a golflink membership card and handicap, join in with the members and enjoy the day. Green fees are $27.50, $22.00 if introduced by a Member. If you have all the right golflink info and enter the comp it is $15 plus the comp fee.

Played there last month.
I will be returning.
It doesn’t deserve the horrid reviews now that may have been true in the past.
Cheap to play, course no worse than Ashgrove, yes it’s only 10 holes, most are par 3 but gives your acuraccy & short game a good going over.

I will never forget Albany Links Golf Course as it was the first course I had ever played. (3 years ago). I had returned to the course, after I felt the need to see how it had come along over the years. It ws quite dissapointing to say the least. I must admit, I never realised how short some of the holes were. Some viewers have suggested it is a good course to practice as a younster, which I would tend to agree with due to the smaall ques and relaxed atmosphere. However, only a severe hack would return to the course on a consistent basis. The course is just a shambles. Some of the holes are just too small, and can potentially play you out of form due to playing half strokes, and losing confidence in your stoke. I would love to give the course some credit, due to it being the home where it all began for me. Although I really struggle to, as it is just a very ordinary golf course. I will give it a 2 star, very lucky not to be a 1.

you’d think that over time a course would gradually improve, however this one seems to be getting worse

rubbish course, there are probably 4 par 3’s under 100m long and a 350m par 5 ???. payed 12$ for a round of 10 holes, as a student i only have to pay 17$ for a round at wantima up the road which is a far better course.

I am a regular at Albany Links Golf Course and it’s an excellent little course. There are normally no queues and you don’t have to book. There are some Par 3’s and 4’s. Overall a good course for beginners and intermediate levels and a muck around.

The golf course is really good and excellent value. I played it after heavy rain and it was still great. Most other local courses were closed .I had a feed at the Links Cafe and it was very clean and served great food at fair prices.

i hate when people say its good for practicing . ITS NOT, its worse for your game, greens are so small, its feels like hitting onto a tooth pick

I thought a LINKS course was on a sea coastline! This goat track will never get me back. I could have thrown my golfball to reach some targets.I Skewed a ball and yelled 4 and half the course ducked for cover. The greens are small and the tee blocks are laughable.Someone should also tell them its illegal to store sewerage water in a dam . I was shocked to see 2 young kids up to their knees trying to fish out their ball.I think i’ll try One Mile or Wantima just up the road.

I've played the links a few times now, and as a beginner I found it to be a great course to work on my short game because of the high number of PAR 3's. The course is easy, and it's cheap to play. Overall I'd say it's a great course to start on for any beginners, but sooner or later we all have to move on. I'll play there again.

There is currently 10 holes in play and measures 1770m Par 34 with 7 Par 3s ranging from 85-130m, with 2 Par 4s ranging from 305-320m and one Par 5 350m 3rd hole. Course is in absolute shambles, with clearly not enough land for 9 holes let alone 10 holes! The fairways and rough are so closely alike, that I could not ascertain from either surface. The greens are bumpy with dead patches and are small elevated domes. Tee-beds are not even elevated and has tee-markers that run the same as the fairways/rough. The course itself is not challenging, and has ridiculously short holes, much like a pitch and putt.

I played here on 21/2/06 and paid $10 green fees for 9 holes after playing Wantima, and was more interested in the mini golf than the courseÖ Not at all challenging, with a poor layout and conditions means it would not be seeing me again if Iím ever in Brissie again. Generally give it a skip and go to One Mile.

I've seen alot of golf courses in my day but I've never seen a course as poor as Albany Links. The fairways are atrocious and the lenghts of holes are to short for any keen golfer. I think the mini-putt there is more difficult and challenging than the actual course. The service there is also utterly disgraceful and my best opinion would be to travel a few minutes down Strathpine Road to Wantima Country Club which will definitely give you a challenge. The upside of this course is its cheap prices and low queues on the course. As I said before it is not for any keen golfers looking for a challenge.

Teaching my kids to play at albany Links was one of the best things I have ever done. Other coursesare too big and they loose confidence because they get bad scores. But at albany links they can learn on par 3's and gain confidence beacuse they get the ball on the Green!!

Also you dont have to dress them up in the propper attire, so they can feel comfortable out on the course. It is also the perfect place for you to try to get that whole in one.

Just because albany Links isnt as high class as other courses doesnt mean its ot wirth a play. I encourage all of you to have a game at albany links and see just how much FUN golf can be.

Golf at it's most basic. Only two holes have regulation size and quality greens, the rest are of backyard quality(and are very small). The only upside - generally no queues to get on and play. If you're after a true game of golf, try Wantima Country Club, a kilometre down Southpine Rd.
