I've played this hidden-away course several times over the last few months and some of the reviews here are missing the point.
This course isn't aimed at the low handicap golfer, anyone who shoots under 95 won't find anything to challenge them here. Where this course does have a place is getting beginners out on the course for a small outlay. Another advantage is that it's almost always possible to turn up and play when most of the other courses in the Northern Beaches are booked up.
The greens aren't special and vary in smoothness from hole to hole, some approaching a decent standard, while others have grass that is too long for accurate putting beyond 2m.
The people are friendly and the general standard of maintence is above what you might expect for a council operated course. Some bald patches but I've seen worse fairways at clubs that charge 3x the price.
The real bonus however is the restaurant, after 9 or 18 holes on a warm day it's great to sit back and enjoy a cold one and a good feed.
If you shoot over 100 and you want to get out and have a practice I'd recommend this course.
Happy golfing

I played this course in Oct 06 and was the only person on it during the mid week. Not surprising either. Greens are rough and uncared for, no real need for fairways as the holes are very short.
The 2nd hole is the pick of them and the 9th is interesting at least when I played it as I underclubbed by about 2 as the wind was blowing harder than I thought above the trees.
If you don't play to your handicap here against the par 64 (ACR more accurate at 60) then you are struggling. Although it is easy to 3 putt so that can add some shots all in all easy & boring.

Measuring exactly 1800m Par 32 from the mens back tees (and 1767m Par 32 for Ladies) with 5 Par 3s ranging from 98-130m, 3 Par 4s ranging from 240-335m and the 7th 375m Par 5. It has a boring layout with many of the Par 3s having to hit the same club off the tee. Not many challenges here.
It attracts a lot of beginners and social groups of Sydneyís Northern Beaches residents. The course is located on a steeply sloping land from the road to the clubhouse. All fairways slope, so many of the drives must be set up on the higher side of the slope to take advantage of angle. I would give a detailed account of the holes, but from the casual play of the locals, I think the course does not try to be anything too special. Greens are very slow and are not kept very well with long grass next to dead patches. Fairways are thinly soiled, but has several bunkers guarding the greens and all of the longer holes. Teebeds need a desperate trim, with some shots not needing a T as the length of grass will prop the ball up itself.
Played here Sunday 29/1/06 and paid $12 for 9 holes after 4pm. The rate here otherwise is $17 for 9 holes, which I feel is asking for too much.

I played well here. But, it lacks the x factor. Only 9 holes too. Some good driving holes and sloping fairways and a string of short boring par threes.

Played Avalon 13/1/11 (Thur 2:30) and was only one of 8 people on the course so without a booking I walked straight onto the course. A simple and short nine holes, in fact I only used my driver on 3 holes and could have even got by without that. The course generally has a good covering of grass however the greens and tees are not of a high quality. As the course is built in a gully so the longer holes have sloping fairways, the par 3 are all short. I agree with Louatmv’s comments that this is not a course for the serious golfer but is a great way to have a hit if your over that way
