Played this course the day after playing Creswick. What a difference. Worlds apart in quality, design and condition. Thomson and Perrett have built a fun yet challenging course.

Agree that it’s not super long, but makes up for that in strategy. Some tricky, guarded fairways and greens that get you thinking. Quite a bit of water throughout the course to get you thinking, but nothing silly.

For a young course it was in great condition. It will only get better.
I could see how the wild would make life tough on this course. Shot a 77 off the stick, so happy with that.

Will definitely be back!

PROS

  • Great Layout
  • Great Condition
  • Quality Clubhouse
  • Very reasonable price

Cons

  • Young course, but will only get better

New layout excellent and really starting to consolidate now warmer weather has kicked in. Not super long off the blue tees, but you do have to think your way around, with fairway landing zones usually well-protected and the wind can be a factor. Clubhouse top notch and would have to agree with earlier comment that course is best in central Vic. Well worth the drive!

PROS

  • Design
  • Condition of fairways
  • Standard of clubhouse/proshop

Cons

  • Excessive plug marks on some greens

Ballarat Golf Course is the best golf club in the region i am only 16 but have been playing there for a few years now and still love the course, the course has recently had a makeover and it looks better than ever it now has a new 16 holes soon to be 18 and it has now a lot more challenges such as the big rolling hills and the fast greens.

The people at Ballarat Golf club were certainly friendly and welcoming. However, as a golf course, it certainly does little to fire the imagination, flat (which is not a bad thing in itself) and short. The course was showing its age through its length and design. I lived near this course yet drove 20 minutes to play on another track. Having left the area I can’t wait to return and play on Ballarat Golf Club’s new course- which will hopefully give the Ballarat district the ‘Premier’ course it needs and deserves.

Ballarat is a generally well maintained course - as long as it doesn't rain. The course layout is a tad on the boring side with numerous straight away 300m par 4's. The back nine is by far the better nine.

Ballarat Golf Course is the best manicured golf course in it area. The Groundstaff there do a exceptional job with the machinery and only four staff members. Jeff Powell is a excellant super and has had great support from Jarrod Allan, Tim Coffey and Adam Barrant. The greens at Ballarat golf course are the best in the area by a mile.

There are some exciting times coming up for the committee and groundstaff as they are about to tackle the tasks of building a brand new 18 hole golf course right next to the layout at present.

Once again i can not try to explain how good a job Jeff and his team do on this historic golf course, over 100 years old and is now the oldest original layout golf course in Australia.
