Barnwell Park Golf Club Ltd was established at Lyons Road West, Five Dock in the mid 1960’s. The Club House is owned by it’s members who have exclusive weekend competition use of the adjacent Barnwell Park Golf Course which is operated by Canada Bay City Council. The course has picturesque views across Canada and Kings Bay’s and is a comfortable, short (3,400m) but challenging par 61 for men and 62 for women.

You know….this really isn’t that bad a course.
Sure it’s no Magenta Shores but it doesn’t pretend to be. It is a public council course which does a great job to make ends meet. That’s why the condition of the course can vary throughout the year. Generally I find that when it has been reining regularly the course is green and lush which is all I ask for really. It would be great if there were a couple of more par 5’s or even par 4’s for that matter but I would prefer a challenging par 3 as opposed to a short and easy par 4 any day.
Fairways a narrow, greens are smaller than postage stamps and usually elecated, some greens are also very well protected by bunkers so if you’re a wild hitter forget about scoring well. You don’t have to be a long hitter to play this course but golf shouldn’t really be about hitting the ball long. Here is a challenge for you – pull out a driver on all par 4’s and 5’s and see how many times you hit middle of fairway….not often I bet.
Personally I love the back 9 which is predominantly par 3’s but you know what, when the wind from the bay starts to pick up making par becomes really difficult and club selection becomes really important. Over the closing 3 holes I often have to start my tee shot out over the bay due to the wind….pretty hard to hit those small greens.
Take this course for what it is and you will enjoy it. Expect Augusta National and obviously you will be disappointed.
