Having played at Barnwell Park Golf Course as a social club member for near on the last 10 years i have seen the course change its shape over the time . In its current form i can not fault it , Club pro is very nice and always helpful . Playing of a H/C of only 13 and having a best round of 68 of the stick its one of those courses that the ball must remain in the fairway to have a chance to score well . True its only short but tricky and when the wind blows over the bay can make scores from 60's to 100's very reachable . i enjoy every time i tee it up on this course as its a challange of a different kind rather then just smash and bash. I hope you all enjoy you rounds of golf here .

This would have to be the worst course in Sydney. The fairways are terrible and the greens are even worse. The pro said that the greens have had a bug recently, as have most courses in Sydney. There are a large number of temp greens used. They selected the part of fairway that is in the worst condition and called it a green.
Its about time this club gets rid of it directors and get someone who has some common sense to be on their board. I spoke to one of the directors re the condition and he said they are in the process of getting them fixed, by installing new TEES! Very smart.
Don't waste your money playing here.

I've lived in the area for a while and thought I'd give Barnwell Park a go the other day. I'm a member of a Western Sydney course and play off 12.
Next time I'll save my money and travel to an actual Golf course or the driving range. Paid $16.50 for 9 holes (front 9), the fairways were in terrible condition, the greens could not be called greens with patches of dirt (putting wasn't possible), if they had been cored then its like nothing I've seen in 15 years of playing golf.
Might be OK for a beginner (although you should take a helmet as this place is also a rifle range...balls flying all over the place).
If you love your golf and play off anything under 36 then I wouldn't bother...pay the extra to play Massey Park or North Ryde.

Just down the road from Massey Park is this tiny little course.
Front 9 is ok, some challenges but the back is just ridiculous. The back 9 is so narrow it will have you swearing black and blue in no time. Clearly there is not enough room here for a proper course so why the hell did they build one? Some of the greens are joined together to fit it all in...
I've played here 5 times over the last six months because I live nearby and only once was the course in a reasonable state.
At the moment however this course is in an appalling condition.
Massey Park is just down the road and actually feels like a real golf course for only $5 more. Go there instead.
If you must play here bring lots of balls and I hope you know a good lawyer because you may very well kill someone driving down Lyons Rd

Barnwell is my home course. It is a great little course that is the quickest to play(by urself 2hrs). It is a short course, but good tee placement is crucial for your approaches. There is one par 5 the first which is 433ms from the whites. Most people think they can get on for 2 but if you spray your drive left or right your in trouble with the sight and shot of the risen green gone. Our par 4s are on the short side but are narrow as...the 15th is our signiture hole. The 15th is a 240m par 4. Everyone has trouble playing this hole! you can try and knock your tee shot on...which hardly happends as the green is guarded by a front bunker, and to ass the green is one of the smallest ever! so if your a big hitter and overhit the green you in the canal..and a nice penalty. Some people think its smart to hit an iron..but that leaves you with a nasty approach to this green. This hole is a great test for any golfer...likewise for the course

Measuring 3490m Par 61 with 12 Par 3s ranging from 90m-170m, 5 Par 4s ranging from 250m-355m and only Par 5 1st hole 430m. First nine is definitely more challenging & interesting than the back nine. The 6th hole is the signature hole with an index 1. Beware the green runs off to a creek behind. The 18th is not too bad either, anything left is in Canada Bay.
The par 4s are quite drivable off the back tees (except the 6th and 7th holes), where I played the course from. There are a lot of beginners on this course which makes it very frustrating if you are behind these groups. The greens are in poor condition with unrepaired pitch marks and play bumpy and slow. The tee-beds and fairways were good with a few dead patches. The rough is longish on the back nine, but overall not too bad a course for a short game practice.
Played here on 12/1/06 and paid $14 uni student rate & there are good rates around. After 4pm it is $16 otherwise it is $21 7 days a week. Would not rush back to play here, but if in the area you get better value here rather than at Massey Park, which is of similar length and within 5 minutes drive.

This course is an good beginners course or even just a hit with some friends. Th fairways and greens are in pretty good condition and there are some short and average size holes. Beware, though it does get busy on weekends. Not the best course but certainly not the worst course in Sydney.

If you havent hit this course then dont.
It is ridicously short with some holes hittable with your loft wedge although the tight fairways and small greens make it a challenge. The course is so tight and the calibre of player here so low that Its only a matter of time before someone dies here, hardhats recommended. The fairways overall are in average condition. Most holes feature bunkers around the greens, the quality of these was poor. Underneath the light fluffy 1/2 inch layer of top sand I found some very hard and moist earth which made it very hard to play. Once you do land your ball on the smallish risen greens thats where the trouble begins. The greens are without doubt the worst ive ever seen with dead patches everywhere. They are quite quck and balls tend to bounce more than roll. It doesnt look like many people repair pitch marks here making for a very unenjoyable round.
I could only recommend this course for drunken bucks days...and apparently someone else has too. I played behind one such group and another punter remarked to me there'd been one the previous week. Let them have it I say which is a shame because its such a great spot on Canada Bay...just not big enough.

An enjoyable venue for any social golfer who doesn't rate himself too seriously. If you don't have a handicap - then this is the course to play.
Only one par 5 which is on the very first hole while the rest of the front nine is very tight so if you're a hooker or slicer, you're bound to end up on the wrong fairway.
While the back nine is extremelly short it is compensated for the fact that the final holes are right next to the water.
Great course to improve all aspects of your short game.
Love the informal atmosphere of the place and the clubhouse which overlooks the bay is a great place to sink a drink.

Since joining this course approx one year ago it has liffted it's game. The layout is only short, but the narrow fairways and risen greens will sting you if not accurate with irons.
The backnine is mostly par 3s with only two par 4s. Quite short on the back but being located on Canada bay the wind becomes a problem.
This course is good for all levels of golfers. But watch out for the 8th and 15th these holes can ruin a perfect round.

I don't know how they squeezed 18 holes into this area, but somehow they did. And the first is a Par 5!
If you are after a social round then this course is worth playing with your mates. I've played once and was unfortunate to get stuck behind a group of visually impaired golfers - don't get me wrong, it's great to see all sorts of golfers out on the course. It did make for a long 9-holes though.
The back 9 is very short, mainly par 3's which is what makes this course par-61. Good for those afternoons when you want to take your mate's money in a nearest-the-pin comp.
In all it was in pretty good nick for a public-access course, the greens particularly. Mind you, there are regular interruptions as the word 'FORE!' can be heard every 90 seconds from somewhere on the course.
Put it this way - i've played golf on worse courses than this.

i live local and have played it alot over the last 2 years…currenty the course is in pretty good nick possibly the best i have seen it yes its short in metres but its still hard work to post “amazing” scores…you need to be accurate, as the fairways are tight, the rough is currently thick (and of ball eating deepth), the greens are some of the smallest around.. -the greens are mostly elevated with bunkers at front so yeah….... you had better bring you A+ short game because i play there so much when i go to a private or resort course it seem greens, fairways etc are massive… with targets so big it feels like cheating !
