Bayview Golf Club

Sydney, NSW | User Rating: Rate-3 (3.5) | Add A Review

Bayview Golf Club is a picturesque private golf club located in the northern beaches area of metropolitan Sydney. It offers 18 holes of pure sporting enjoyment hidden away among the rolling hills of the Peninsula.

The course’s tree-lined and undulating fairways are impressive and test the skills of most golfers. The lake, creeks and water hazards add to the challenge.

In February of 2009, Bayview invested in a new $7.2 million state of the art clubhouse. Members and guests now have access to stylish locker rooms and bar with an elegant restaurant/function room which holds 200 guests. Parking for 110 cars is located under the complex with 36 parking areas right outside the front door.

I am new to golf and found this a very challenging course. This wasn’t helped by the recent rain, leaving many of the fairways swamp-like and rough very dense. The clubhouse is very nice with a sweeping view of the course.

In better condition and on a less busy day (teed off on Sunday morning, got back 5.5 hours later) I could see this being a fantastic course but after waiting 10+ mins on each tee this course didn’t live up to its potential.

I would like to come back but would only consider playing mid-week.

The course is beautiful…I think I need to move there:)

Played on Sunday with a 2.00pm tee off so was expecting a long afternoon. Got round in just under 4 hours. Faster than we expected. Did get called thru once but most groups moved along pretty well.

Course in good condition and layout interesting with some good short par 4’s and longer par 3’s.

Superb greens on 23 sept 2011, fast and true.
Playing on a friday we got around the course in good time
Course was in very good nick generally
No complaints from me. I liked it.

By far the longest game of golf I have ever played. Usual wait per hole was around 5 minutes before teeing off. Then after every shot another 5 minutes of waiting. On one hole (11th) there were 4 groups of people, that is 16 players, waiting on the tee to play.

Course itself is not too bad, but poor course design and over-crowding leads to absolutely nightmare of a day. I never had such a hellish day of golf in my life!

All par 5s can be reached easily in 2 and one par 4 can be reached in 1 with a 5-wood causing the massive delay. Also the 10th tee is out in the middle of the course which means everyone has to tee off from 1st.

If you must play here make sure you bring a good book!

Bayview is a beautiful course and now in the best condition I have ever seen it.If you think it will be an easy round I’ve got news for you—-a real test of golf and in one of the most scenic parts of Sydney.great clubhouse, lounge bar and bistro.Give it a go and you won’t be disappointed.

Despite previous reviews of the clubhouse I found the whole experience a pleasure. Easily parked, straight into the pro shop and onto the practice putting green within 5 mins.

Although the course was obviously still suffering from the enormous amount of rain we’ve had recently, I thought it was in relatively good nick. The greens ran well and can imagine in the summer they are excellent. However, I couldnt believe the amount of un-repaired pitch marks there were – I was following a members comp and even had to repair one pitch mark 4 ft from the hole – the group in front must have seen it ??

Despite that I have to say that as a’singleton’ ive never been waved through as much as today. 3 groups waved me through which meant I was able to complete the round in 3hrs 20min. Hats off to the members on this note – other courses should take note !!

PROS

  • Being waved through

Cons

  • Unrepaired pitch marks
  • Lack of 'next' hole signage

We arrived with high hopes of a really enjoyable day, but very quickly went downhill. The course itself is in fantastic condition, and is a real challenge with tight fairways and lots of OB. Tees, greens and fairways all excellent.

However, when we arrived, the guy in the pro shop asked us for $50 when we had already paid, and didn’t know that we had booked a buggy.

Unfortunately then, we were stuck in the longest round of golf i have ever played. It took 3hrs 10 minutes to play 11 holes. There were no marshalls on the course top speed play up and i feel that there were too many people on the course full stop. Having got to the first and 2nd par 3, there were people approaching the green, with 2 groups waiting on the tee already.

I would play here again, but i will probably be choosing a twighlight round at about 3.30pm as i’d get round in 3 hours rather than 7.

  • Great condition
  • Challenging

I don’t know how a recent reviewer could rubbish the new clubhouse which is modern and functional for both golfers and social users.the course condition has improved from OK to terrific and this is an interesting and challenging track in a beautiful part of Sydney. My mates and I will be back for sure.

I’ve recently returned and played Bayview again after 12 months away from Sydney and wow, this club has really come a long way. The fairways were perfectly groomed and the greens were really quick and in great condition. The pro was telling me that the club picked up a new course super and he should be congratulated. There have been some changes to the layout too which is great. We ended up staying for a meal on the balcony which topped off a thoroughly enjoyable day. I’ll be back – highly recommended.

Where did that $7.2 million bucks go? The new clubhouse is really just one big room and is so poorly detailed that it somehow feels like its still not finished. If you are considering playing here on a Sunday I suggest you check with the pro shop that there were no morning comps as they inevitably run overtime and the course gets so backed up that its essentially unplayable (Mona Vale doesn’t seem to share this problem). As for the course itself the greens are slow and heavy and the fairways are a bit rough so its just OK.

Hadn’t been to Bayview in some years and was pleasantly surprised with the new clubhouse. Though it seems the length of the course has been somewhat reduced with quite a few par 3s and new short par 4s.

Some good holes such as 3 and 7 but still a reasonably boring layout with water hazards the only potential difficulty. Greens were very slow, fairways not of the expected standard and overall the course looks a bit tired.
Having also played nearby Mona Vale recently, it doesn’t even come close to the quality and challenge there. However, the staff were obliging and the experience was enjoyable rather than memorable.

Would go back one day for another go but for me there is better quality and value for money in the area.

I played Bayview for the first time recently and really enjoyed the day, even though it was raining. I found the course in great condition, the hole layout was challenging for me. I’m really looking forward to playing it again.

Played Bayview for the first time. Most impressed by the clubhouse which is a very nice facility.

The course is fair and when we played it the condition was ok. The fairway grass was a bit long and the greens a bit slow considering the recent ideal conditions. In their favour the greens were running true. It’s definitely a course you need to play more than once to get used to the distances to the corners of many of the dogleg holes. There are some useful maps on each tee to assist with this. The front nine is fairly undulating while the back nine is all flat and a couple of the holes are a bit bland because of this.

Overall a decent course that I would be happy to play again. As the previous review says it has great potential.

I’m a member at "the view", there is no view to speak about. However there are alot of good holes with water on eleven of the holes. The new clubhouse opens in March so thats worth a look. But my opinion as a low handicap player? If you like smooth fast greens give this one a miss. This course has more potential then any course on the northern beaches but continues to stay as a B grade club. Very frustrating. Give Mona Vale a try the course over there is fantastic, and cheaper for social play. Or Long Reef.

I've played at Bayview around a dozen times as a visitor and always enjoyed my round.

The course is generally always in good nick and after all the ain over the winter in 06 the course is lush and green even now in Jan 07.

My favourite aspect of this course is the variety of hole layouts, too many courses have staight up and down holes that lack imagination, not here.

16 out of 18 holes has either a change of elevation, a dogleg or water in play, there is generally always something to think about and keep you interested.

The first is a dogleg par 5 with a good size creek in front of the green, that means only the longest hitters can attempt to get on in 2. The second is another dogle, par 4 this time has a good size water carry on the tee. The third hole completes a great opening stretch with another great dogleg par5, a really challenging hole.

It can be difficult to get a social play tee time at the weekend, after around 1400 it's usually OK.

I've played solo several times and often joined up with members and enjoyed a good friendly round.

Another nice touch here is that visitors get a beer or soft drink included in the price of the greenfee. The fee is comparable with other courses in the area and good value in my opinion.

Happy golfing!

Played bayview on New Years Day 06. Found the course interesting with several different types of challenges to cause havoc with your scoring.

The course was in great condition except for the greens which looked like they had taken a pounding from wedge approach shots and poorly reparied pitch marks.

The club pro stated that the club would start work to improve the speed and consistency of the greens.

Worth a visit to a good layout

My son just played the State Juniors and so I walked around. I was so surprised and a great mix of holes. In great condition, I'll be back for an Open Day. Recommend to all.

Today we played at Bayview golf course and found the greens slow and bumpy. The fairways and tees were in good condition and the general course layout is great with alot of water to punish the poor shot . The length of the grass on the greens was very disappointing !

This is a hidden treasure located over the back of Mona-Vale on Sydneys Nth Shore.

First couple of holes are okay then you get to the par 5, 3rd what a great hole with a dog leg to the right with water and out of bounds on right and also water to the left shot into green needs to be on the money as green is narrow and has bunkers around and also out of bounds over the back.

Then you cross over the road for the next few great holes coming down on hole 7 is amazing with dog leg to the left out of bounds on the right and don't drive long or you will end up in someones backyard like I managed, or in the creek which winds down around this hole.

The rest of the holes are good but 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 are my favourites of this course.

This is a good course worth the drive the pro Rod Brown was freindly and helpful.

The clubhouse is a tad of a let down compared to the golf course but okay..

Recent changes to holes 4 -7 have improved Bayview but for me it remains perhaps the most boring 18 holes on the Northern Beaches. The majority of the course is flat. Most fairways are straight and most greens are fairly undemanding.

There's a bit of water, though mostly it's not in play. The major hazards are the trees that protect the edge of many fairways.

Bayview is down in a valley and can get quite hot and sticky in summer. Few breezes seem to get onto the course. It's picturesque without any great views and the course is usually well maintained, but overall it's a bit of a yawn.

A lovely course that's generally well maintained. Some very good holes, although a little short to it's par over the whole course.

Accuracy, over length, off the tee is important, as well as thoughtfully placed approach shots.

A nice course that's worth a visit.

A picturesque golf course featured in the heart of the northern beaches. The course is quite a challenging dispite it being a par 71, with some long par 4's and 5's featured in both the front and back nine. Not to mention long par 3's that stretch well over 200m from the back tee's.

Since the re-doing of the 4, 5, 6 and 7 holes, as well as resent coring of the greens and manicuring of the fair ways, bayview golf course is looking the finest it's ever been.

One of Sydneys better public access courses... though there was some talk of it becoming fully private.

A fairly long course with some interesting holes. The 3rd is a shortish par 5 with a 90 degree dogleg on the third shot. Some of the holes in the back nine are a little similar; quite straight with reasonably wide fairways. Greens are good but the course sometimes suffers from excess water as it is quite low compared to the water table.

Worth a visit.
