Loved this course.
I agree with most of Scrubber’s comments below so won’t repeat those.
Played in April and it was immaculate.
The flat front 9 is an excellent test of the brain – especially off the tee. Choose your weapon wisely.
I didn’t think much of the Par 5 7th however – one of the dumbest holes I’ve seen which is an injustice to the rest of this magnificent course. (I had a 5 by the way so not talking through my scorecard.)
The hilly back 9 is one of the best 9 holes I’ve played anywhere.
If the front is a test of your brain, the back is a test of your brain and your balls. I love a risk/reward hole and this 9 has plenty.
The Par 3 11th is a great short hole (139m).
Your 2nd shot to the Par 4 12th is terrifying but fair.
The Par 5 15th is fantastic – huge risk/reward from the tee and your 2nd shot – great hole.
And the Par 4 16th can leave you with a wedge or 3-iron to the green depending on how much abyss you want to take on from the tee.
When visting Adelaide as I was, just play there. You won’t be disappointed.

The Blackwood Golf Club is a stunning and very challenging course for all players. The course features some very well placed bunkers and some very tricky roughs. The greens are very well maintained considering the shortage of water, the greens are small and very fast so you will have to be an experienced player to score 1 putts from a distance. The clubhouse features a restaurant and a fully equiped proshop.

Blackwood golf club is located in the beautiful Adelaide Hills about 30 mins drive from the city. The clubhouse and facilities are extremely good with the restaurant overlooking the 9th and 18th fairways and greens.

As for the course, Blackwood provides one of the most challenging and interesting rounds of golf in Adelaide. The fairways are carpet like, the greens are fast and tricky and there are many well positioned bunkers to catch any stray shots. The greens are mostly elevated and drain well in winter, any misplaced approach will usually leave you with a very tricky chip. Every hole on this course is completely different and each challenges a different aspect of your game. The front nine is completely flat while the back nine contains some slopes and hills, although on the whole the course is not nearly as up and down as most Adelaide hills courses.

The course is of medium length with some long holes and a couple of very tricky short holes. The highlight has to be the 15th, a long, dog leg par 5 almost impossible to hit in 2. A third shot pitch from 100m to a two tier, tricky green with bunkers front and a lake along the left of the fairway and side of the green. One of the most beautiful shots to hit, i couldnt help but get out another ball to hit.

Overall the course provides a golfing challenge in every sense of the word, but the beautiful surroundings and condition of the course will mean an enjoyable days play even if the course does get the better of your score. There are a few patchy spots in the rough and occasionally around the green which are the only downfall of this magnificent course. In my opinion it is level with or just behind Grange and Glenelg as the next best courses in Adelaide behind the superb Royal Adelaide and Kooyonga. A must see course when in Adelaide.

Blackwood is best played from October to June when the couch fairways are superb.

The course is narrow with relatively small greens on most holes. Birdlife is abundant, and bring bread for the five resident geese on the front nine.

The course favours the straight hitter from both tee and fairway. Most greens are slighly elevated, resulting in additional challenges for the shorter hitters.

The greens are deceptive in their breaks.

Signature holes for me are the 1st, 7th, 12th, 15th and 16th. The 18th offers birdie if straightaround dog leg and leads to the elevated modern clubhouse.

Blackwood is a good golfing challenge requiring use of all the clubs in your bag and patience.

Blackwood Golf Course is nestled in the heart of the tranquil Adelaide Hills, approximately 30 km's SW of the CBD. A true golfing challenge is found here, right from the first tee. Gently sloping immaculately conditioned tree lined fairways, contain a certain nostalgia. A real historic kind of course, nothing but a definite challenge, & definitely a course for the strategically minded thinker. Subtle greens in mint nic, are always a pleasure to putt on, although experience is an asset on the dancefloor. The whole course provides definite birdie chances, but just as easily can produce a bogey or worse. The front nine, usually classified as the easiest of the nines, has a relatively easy stretch from 6-9, where birdies are essential for the previous and upcoming testing holes. Signature holes would have to be the 12th, a long 410 metre par 4, where a drive is needed to the crest of the hill or to the bottom of it, leaving a downhill approach, usually of about a 7 or 6 iron, depending on the wind, which affects the ball immensely on this exposed hole. 14th hole is a short par 5, where a drive is needed up the hill, beware of the lake and shrubery on the left, then the decision is made for the layup (most popular option), or to go at the green, which is guarded by a kale, short and left. A two tiered green then plays havoc. All in all, a truely magnificent and fun-filled golf course. A must see when in Adelaide.
