Played Bloomfield today (25/4/11, we were playing all 3 courses in Orange over 2 days) and with a 7:00am hit off we had most of the course to ourselves during the round. This is a flat course which has 2 sections separated by the road leading into the course. The 1st fairway and green were a little rough which led to some concern over the quality of the course but this soon passed as we got into the round. The fairways are wide, in most cases tree lined and are well covered so you should not have issues with the lie, even the rough is kind. The bulk of the greens are in excellent condition although the 5th, 16th and 17th greens were under repair, showing that work is being conducted on the course. An interesting characteristic of Bloomfield is that on the turn, 4 of 5 holes (7th, 8th, 10th 11th) are all par 3’s with 2 of these measuring 200mtrs. The 2 par 5’s are not long and are reachable in 2 for longer hitters with the remaining holes all par 4’s.

At 5356 metres and a par 68 the course isn’t as difficult as its cousins in town and but is worth a visit, I really enjoyed the pleasant walk and would be happy to play there again

Bloomfield Country Club, now run by Orange Ex services club and recently refurbished is a beautiful course all year round and challengers every single golfer. With a good mix of holes in a picturesque location, the course provides a great days golf. Highlights of the course include the Par 3 that carries across a dam and the Par 4 385 m 17th that runs parallel with the road and demands a very accurate drive. Exceedingly beautiful in Autumn, with the falling leaves changing the landscape to all sorts of shades of brown. A great course to play, with full clubhouse facilities also available.
