Alice Springs Golf Club

IN: COURSE DIRECTORY | REGION: Central Australia, NT | USER RATING: (4.0) | Add A Review

The sporting showpiece of this unofficial capital of Central Australia is the stunning Alice Springs Golf Club which boasts one of the world’s finest desert venues set in the foothills of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges. With several quality hotels backing onto the course why not stay a couple of days and enjoy the magnificent scenery.

The Alice Springs course has earned rave reviews from golfers world-wide as a course of unique charm blended with some subtle severity. Accuracy is a must and even the boldest hitters must harness their power and replace it with discretion to ensure a safe landing, rather than challenge the menacing spinifex which lurks at the edges of the fairways.

Enjoyed an early morning round at Alice Springs GC this week. I’d highly recommend taking your clubs if you are travelling to Alice Springs. This course is about 25 years old and is one of the better inland courses in Australia. The setting is truly unique. It is not overly long, but there’s a nice design element, with the front 9 nicely utilising the surrounding rocky hills. My only criticisms are a lack of movement in the greens (anyone familiar with Peter Thomson’s early design work will feel very much at home here), and on a few holes, houses that are too close for comfort. I rate this course, and would put it in the same pack as quality courses like Horsham, Bonnie Doon and Mt Lawley. Not out of the top shelf, but safely in the second tier and well worth a visit if you’re in Central Australia.

What a beautiful golf course.

I played there in May which is the best time of year apparently and would recommend to anyone.

Numerous holes cut through gorges and precision is needed on approaches to many greens.

The day i played the greens were like glass.

Beware of hitting from off the fairway (red dust and quartz)

Being a local I have played this course many times. I found it to be very challanging in regards to accuracy and placement of the ball on approach.

The course allows for excellent driving but you must be accurate with your shots when aiming for the greens. Every hole has its own challenges.

Signature holes for me are the long par 4 2nd, par 4 7th, and the 17th with its water hazard.
