shortish private course thats nice to play. i agree with the previous review as it has lot of variety in holes. enough challange with tight fairways and good bunkering makes it no push over. the par 3’s are my favourite holes to play here.

I’ve been a member at Box Hill since Oct 07 and I’m enjoying it immensely. The course is currently setup as a par 72 with five par 5s and five par 3s, so there’s plenty of variety. The par 5s aren’t overly long (433,452,480,441,446) and there is some discussion about making the course par 70 or 71. Current length is 5579 m, with an ACR of 70.

Yes, there are some issues with drainage on the back nine, which became a real issue with prolonged rain last winter. They are going to rebuild the worst affected green (14th) which became almost sludgy.

But overall the course is in great nick. A complete replanting of the fairways with couch has resulted in a lush, thick surface, while the greens are firm and subtle. The course is heavily bunkered, with most par 3s well guarded. Tight fairways are bordered by extensive trees and shrubs, penalizing off line drives. A creek meanders its way through the course, coming into play on numerous holes. Despite it’s short length (5579 m) it’s no pushover. At the moderate fees, it’s never been better value, with a great location for golfers near the Eastern Freeway.

Friendly club atmosphere, tight fairways, with creek running through course as added hazard. Fairways have been regrassed recently and some fairway areas suffer from poor drainage, as do the 12th and 14th greens in winter. Still a pleasure to play, cost very reasonable. Go and have a hit there, you may think the par 69 is no challenge, take the course on at your own peril.
