What a beautiful course. Karana Downs has been taken over and run by new management as of September 05. It is obvious that the owners are avid golfers. The fairways are a major improvement on the past (they are now green) and the greens are faster then ever. I am a female golfer and although it is a very challenging course, it is still a lot of fun. Be very prepared to lose a few balls along the way!. My favourite hole is the 6th hole that runs parallel to the Brisbane River. I would recommend hiring a golf cart has the course is quiet undulating. Bring your family as there is a swimming pool and tennis courts. I spoke with management and the owners are extending some holes and making some wonderful improvements in general to the course and club. Highly recommend a day at Karana Downs ( Brisbane International).

Karana Downs is one of those courses that could offer so much to the golfer but the lack of water seems to diminish the potential that it may have. A course that winds between the Brisbane River and Karana Downs housing estate is of short length but can still offer a challenge. The new owners of Karana Downs have turned the course around with regards to playability and sociability to the golfer. The length of the course means that on most holes you leave the driver in the bag. The lack of length in some of the holes is somewhat masked by the tightness of the fairways, the placement of hazards, trees and OOB that can capture the wayward shot. Although it has only one par 5, blind tee shots, and tight doglegs requires an exercise in course management. The 4th hole which is a dogleg right is a deceptive distance to the player. A large gum on the corner can capture the short tee shot and the gardens on the other side of the fairway can get those who have a big blast at the hole. The approach on most occasioons requires a blind shot to the flag position. The 6th hole is a blind shot downa tight fairway that is bordered by a the hazard of the banks of the Brisbane River on one side and a heavily wooded bank on the other. A deep gully on the approach to the green requires a well placed lay up off the tee that will give you a sight into the green. Although the greens and bunkers require a fair bit of work, the continued improvement of the course will eventually offer a good challenge to a golfers game.
