I play at Burnley a coule of times each year – it’s close and handy.
They have been doing a lot of work on the course lately and it’s looking very good at the moment.
The tempory greens are gone. Some of the tees have been improved.
The practice green, nets and chipping area are pretty good.
Played there on Wednesday. The greens have recently been cored and so were pretty slow. But otherwise it was good fun.
Burnley is a shortish course for beginners or for the mid-handicapper who is happy to keep the driver in the bag and work on hitting the ball straight.

Good for a beginner, but the fairways are pretty patchy at the moment

A Tidy, short, beginner’s course well worth a look. Unfortunately with almost unplayably bad greens.

A basic course that on your own you can get around in about one hour thirty, a great after work course for a friday stress relief. The new greens that were only put in recently are fantastic and with it not having the greatest of length is a good course for a beginner/ social

What a nice course, i played here for the first time yesterday, excellent for an easy nine holes, could do with a par 5 to spice things up a bit but that close to the city finding the space would be hard.
Only problem is its a beginners course so expect the group in front of you to a) be beginners and b)be very very very slow and not call you through. we ended up with a stack of four groups at one stage, a course marshall during busy periods would easily fix this.
Its also busy at this time of year, lots of people must have got golf clubs for christmas.
PROS
- close to the city
Cons
- very busy

Golf for people who just want to play a game of golf. You don’t wake up all excited to go play at Burnley, but you rock up for a casual hit and enjoy taking it easy on a golf course rather than worrying about your score. Always great for a hit/catch up with mates. It’s where i started my golfing career and it always nice to go back and hit a few balls with mates from time to time. Great course for beginners and the casual golfer.

Played this course after work today. Over all is was an enjoyable experience, however they are in the middle of making changes to three greens and as a result it’s a bit all over the place. It’s a basic layout, cheap and close to the city. So if you are close to the area give it a go. I also play Royal Park quiet a bit and I have to say it’s a much better course, greens are better, layout is more interesting and it costs the same.
PROS
- quick
- close to the city
- cheap
- a couple of interesting holes
Cons
- greens mixed
- flat
- a little boring

All that has been written here before about Burnley is still true. However there are a few changes that have improved the place somewhat. A new green on the third hole. Also the seventh and ninth holes, once easy par fours, are now, relatively tricky par threes. (Men’s par 33)
PROS
- Close to the city for the pre/post work 9 hole
- New club playing 9 hole comps
Cons
- Busy on the weekend fostering new golf talent.

Situated at the east end of Swan St, this course is easily accessible for those close to the city or for those living in the SE suburbs. Grounds are kept well, with most greens running true. Having said that, some greens could have been in better condition. Pretty cheap to play ($13) and well suited for the high handicapper as all the holes are straight and flat.

I have been playing the Burnley course every Friday morning for the last 10 months and I must say that over all it is very well maintained and a nice course to play before heading to work. Holes are nothing to difficult but enough to get your brain ready\clear before work.. Definitely worth checking out.

"royal" Burnley has been an institution in Melbourne for years and is now under threat from developers. A great little course that has began the pastime of many of us. No water, plenty of trees and a few bunkers but largely flat with elevated greens. Is nearly always in top nick and close to the city. And cheap to play. The public deserve more with their parks than have it turned into "apartments/condominiums" for yuppies. Great for a game before the footy.

Measures 2132m Par 33 with three par 3s ranging from 117-182m and six par 4s ranging from 220-323m. Course conditioning is reasonable. Fairways are a little bare in places but mostly green, teebeds are flat with good grass cover and greens are a little slow.
Holes worthy of note include the 313m 4th with a fairway bunker 40m short right on the fairway with a green guarded by a bunker short. The 150m 7th with its 2 tiered green which slopes to the front with 1 bunker short left guarding the front. The 182m 9th has a fairway bunker some 30m short in the middle of the fairway for any mishit and the large green is guarded a bunker short left and over the back.
Played here 14/11/2010 with green fees currently $15.40. Not too bad for a quick short game practice.
