Burswood Park Golf Course

In 1895 the Perth Golf Club, the first established in Western Australia, played on the Burswood site. In 1908 it relocated to South Perth where, in 1937, it became the Royal Perth Golf Club. Today, the Burswood Park Public Golf Course occupies this historic site and presents players with a unique opportunity to play exhilarating golf with the City of Perth skyline as a backdrop, in a delightful riverside setting. Burswood is in all respects a challenging course, with nine lakes and two creeks coming into play on fifteen holes.
Player facilities are the best in Perth and include superb locker rooms, Pro Shop, licenced Cafe, Sprig Bar and Function Centre, day-night driving range, chipping and putting greens and parking for 200 cars.
The Burswood Park Public Golf Course is open to play 365 days of the year. From November to March the course is open to play from 6.00am to sunset and from April to October between 7.00am and sunset. The day/night driving range and practice putting and chipping greens are available up to 8.00pm Monday to Thursday and 7pm Friday.

Burswood Golf Course has some good holes, the 3rd, 11th, 16th, 17th and 18th spring to mind. The greens are elevated and well bunkered unlike the sister course Maylands that is on the other side of the river and lacks bunkering. The Par 5 3rd of over 500m long is arguably the signature hole, as is possibly the par 3 11th, which is all carry at 170m. It gets quite windy at Burswood so be prepared for a links-like experience if you hit off in the afternoon. You must keep the ball low and hit the right clubs into the greens or the bunkers will come into play.
Burswood also unfortunately suffers from a lot of traffic and usage, due to its close to the city location and being close to the Burswood Entertainment Complex and its associated hotels. Lots of hackers on the course day after day can deteriorate the quality of the greens. In the bussiest summer months you may go there and hit the ball ok, but even lots of shorter putts result in lip outs and untrue bumpy rolling. Beginners though will enjow the slower speed of the greens and the chance to hit shots over hazards, perhaps for the first time. Despite being easier courses, I still prefer Maylands and Whaleback due to the better course conditions.
The practise greens and driving range are ok, however you must hit off mats as there are no grassy areas to practise. The view is good of the city and Burswood Entertainment Complex. Its a god course to play every now and then.
