Australian Golf Digest rates the Busselton Golf Club’s “Fairlawn” course one of the “Top 5” Western Australian courses outside the Perth metropolitan area.

Designed by Murray Dawson the course is fully reticulated, well bunkered and built on generally flat terrain with some gentle slopes. Its broad fairways wind through beautiful woodland featuring magnificent redgums and peppermint trees, which host a wide variety of native birds. The rough is well tended and its rare to lose a ball.

International professional Stephen Leaney learnt his craft at Busselton. He loves the true greens and considers the long par fours to be a great test of golf.

A good members’ course with a par of 72 for men and 73 for ladies. Greens were in excellent condition, the fairways were well grassed and the bunkers had a good sand base and were in good condition. Off the fairways was a bit rough, but you aren’t supposed to be there. Lots of big trees make some drives tight and you need to hit the fairway to score. An interesting layout, with some slight undulations, but easily walked. We played in one of their big mixed events and the greens were firm and fast, but very true. Green Fees of $35 for 18 holes is reasonable value for the standard of the course. If you are in the area for a while they also do a weekly green fee of $110. The members were very friendly and the food in the clubhouse was also excellent.

Had heard good things but was a bit disappointed. Certainly a course that is presented in exceptionally good knick for a country track, with the greens being tremendous, but architecturally it is ordinary - dead flat, far too many trees impacting on the line of play meaning that middle of the fairway is realy the only strategy, and far too many little left to right doglegs that bend at about 190m, taking driver out of your hand.

Nice country course but would not hold up in the metro area.

The course is about three 3km from the Busselton turnoff from the main road. It is about 5-7 KM from the townsite.

The course is always in good condition with excellent grass greens. It is a meadowlands type of course with lots of natural bush. The course plays long and the fairways are not generous in width. I always take time to try and play here on my holidays as it is challenging and interesting. There is a good pro shop and the club house is excellent.

The public can play when there are no competitions and those from other private clubs are made welcome and can play in the comps.
