Campbelltown Golf Club

Sydney, NSW | User Rating: Rate-3 (3.0) | Add A Review

The Campbelltown Golf Club has secured its future by amalgamating with one of the state’s largest and most successful clubs, the Campbelltown Catholic Club. The two clubs will now develop a 10 year master plan that will see the Campbelltown Golf course become one of the best public golf courses in Sydney.

Campbelltown Golf club is a par 70 championship golf course nestled amongst the Glen Alpine housing estate, the first of its kind in Australia. The course is a true test of golf with undulating fairways that often result in playing the ball from above or below your feet when approaching the large greens. The is plenty of water on the course with water hazards coming into play on 14 of the 18 holes.

The signature hole is the 18th requiring an accurate drive to avoid the large lake on the left and then a shot over the lake to a well protected green.

The recently renovated clubhouse offers magnificent views over the 18th where you can sit back enjoying the cold beer and wonderful food while watching your fellow golfers trying to avoid the water on the last hole.

See you at the Campbelltown Golf Club soon.

Aside from freezing my knackers off with a very strong icy wind blowing all day, playing here was a positive experience. Luckily my playing partner was once a member here. Getting lost would not be out of the question, otherwise.

PROS

  • Greens
  • Bargain - $25 for 18 w/ a cart!
  • Nice Clubhouse, with great view of the approach on the 18th.

Cons

  • Most tee's appeared to be in need of repair / evening out.

This course is about the uphill battle with vandalism and not being too strict about who plays there. The general course layout is enterprising enough and reasonably hilly. There are plenty of holes to attack, a few that can bite you and a reasonable amount of forgiveness on many others. Good spread of bunkers with water in play on a few holes. The Greens were like lightning and suffer badly from unrepaired divots (beats me why courses go on about sand buckets but don’t ensure players have a divot repairer, let alone know how to use it). The lack of diagram signage at the tee boxes made life difficult for a first timer. All in all it is a reasonable course for an intermediate player.
I paid $28 to walk it.

Being a local Campbelltown lad this course has always been convenient to play at however a lot of work still needs to be done.

– The greens need some much needed attention – Fences should be put up to keep kids out to stop vandalising the course – General up keep of course is lacking – Prices far too high for this course

This being said it’s still not a bad course to bash a few around. Pro shop staff are helpful and polite, and the upgraded Club house facilities are extremely good.

I can’t remember exactly how much I paid but I think it was about $55 for a round of 18 with a cart.. for this price you can find a lot better courses within the area.

Quite surprised, nice course. Played in torrential rain but still enjoyed our game. Nicely undulating… the 18th is a great hole no matter which green you play. Worth it.

Fantastic layout. There has been major work done on the course with the 4th & 17th holes being refurbished which look fantastic. The greens are excellent at the moment withem rolling very smoothly & fast with the cool winter temperatures.

The clubhouse has also been newly renovated giving what would now have to considered the nicest outlook in the area.

Well worth a visit.

Being a local I get out and play most of the courses in the area and after previously being one of this courses harshest critics I am now a regular at it's Wednesday Open Competition. The last 5 years has seen this course really improve. Plenty of work has been done on the course proper now presenting mostly lush fairways and true rolling greens many of which can claim a 3 putt from the uninitiated. Recent times has seen beautification works like new gardens near tee boxes, retaining walls around water hazards, new pathways etc.

Some of my favourite holes are; The Par 4, 400m 11th. This hole needs a long drive keeping to the left edge of the fairway to avoid the hazard running up the right, then a solid 2nd shot, normally a 5 iron or more to a medium size green ready to reward or punish. The two great finishing holes a 200m Par 3 17th carrying a small dam with a green claiming more 3 putts than any other on the course and the 370m Par 4 18th with the much talked about large lake running down the left hand side ready to grab any stray tee shots or poorly struck approach shots.

On the course the only down side is small portions of the 7th fairway which seems incapable of growing grass in current conditions. All other fairways are currently in excellent condition with no preferred lies. This is one of the only local courses able to boast this attribute.

Currently major renovations are underway to the Club house including additonal function rooms and larger restaurant.

All in all this is a much improved golf course and soon Club House which if you have experienced lately you should get out a try.

I played the comp here yesterday and the course is in the best condition I have seen it for some time. Tees were all in good nick, greens were true and soft enough to stop approach shots and the fairways, despite the drought conditions were reasonable enough that there were no preferred lies. The clubhouse is undergoing major renavations and there seemed to be plenty of work going on out on the course too. Favourite holes would have to be the 4th -130m par 3 where a creek runs right along the front edge of the green; 17th -200m par 3 down hill to a huge green that just screams three putt and the 18th where a lake that runs all the way down the left side of the hole has to be carried with your approach shot. The closer you drive to the water the shorter your second shot will be. I was told a local B grade member racked up a 24 on this hole in the club championships a month or so back putting 9 balls on the trot in the drink. Thankfully it only got one of mine. I'll be back here for sure.

Well going there this week I was not expecting much after reading the reviews already on here. I was presently surprised the fairways were a little patchy on some holes but overall they were no worse than other Sydney courses in the current climate/Drought conditions. Greens overall were good too , 1 or 2 greens had been vandalised recently :( Seems to be alot of work going on around the course, mainly paths and the like. Will go back for sure.

I worked on the course from 1981 to 1988 back then we had old machinery a very poor irrigation system, no money and to top it off a committee with no direction and no idea. I havent seen the course since those days but after reading the reviews, as my headline says "nothing has changed".

Measuring 5785m Par 70 from the members tees with 10 Par 4s ranging from 320-400m, 3 Par 5s ranging from 450-490m and 5 Par 3s ranging from 130-200m. The greens are very inconsistent with a few fast ones, then the odd slow one with dead patches. One thing I found characteristic is that with the hilly terrain, with most views of the pin from the fairways, you could not see the bottom of the pin ñ so you had to guess the pin location of the green. Also there were a lack of distance markers on the fairways, with not many ësprinkler headí distances shown. Fairways were very thinly covered (could not help with most water running off into the many gullies that litter the course. Tee-beds were average and the length of grass needed a trim. Bunkers were very thinly covered with no more than 5mm of sand on top then a hard wet clay-like soil underneath! ñ Yes I did find a few on the course to know first hand!

Signature holes 14th 138m Par 3 over creek and green protected by no less than 8 bunkers! The 18th 370m Par 4 with the large lake (one of the largest Iíve seen on a course) bordering the entire left side to take anything left of the fairway as it slopes towards the water hazard, leaving a nervous shot over the lake to the green.

The course is extremely hilly, and from the clubhouse view (which is had very good facilities, but no driving nets) we decided to share a cart, instead of walking a course that I found the most hilly Iíve played on. Played here 10/2/06 and paid $30 each for weekday green fees WITH a cart, usually its $22 WD and $29 on WE/Public holidays. Good course with more needed to be done with maintenanceÖ

I played here 2 days ago in the comp. ($16). The course is very good with the back 9 easier. Plenty of variety.

The grrens are shocking though so hopefully this is a passing phase.

I would recommend this course to all to try and the clubhouse is very nice also.

The course is ever improving and currently the club championships are on so it's in great condition. Tough but rewarding course where if you're on your day you'll get to your handicap pretty easy but if you start spraying them there is plenty of trouble particularly on the front nine.

Probably easier for A graders than B and C graders.

I have played this course a few times and it has definite potential, however the course is poorly looked after. The design of a lot of the holes is superb, but bad maintainence brings the value down.

I would join here if the condition was much better.

Extremely hilly course with some great holes, but also some poor design. The course is generally in poor condition, but if you can look passed that it does have many great attributes.

The 18th is a gem par 4 with a full water carry for the approach shot with a 7-8 iron from a down hill lie.

I was a member here in the mid 90's but left due to the poor condition of the course. If it was cared for correctly it could be a great course.
