Played this course on a sunny wind-free Monday and had the place to ourselves, magnificent views on the back 9, course in excellent condition.

18th under repair at the moment (additional par 3 “betting hole” in use).

Difficult for beginners with a short drive (once its in the tea-tree is gone forever) and make sure you book a cart (unless you are on a fitness bent)

Most friendly pro-shop staff to date.

Get in early for breakfast and try the all you can eat buffet in the resort, great value.

An interesting course, not as difficult as I had been led to believe. The course was in good shape but shows the problems of public courses, unrepaired divots and pitch marks on greens unraked bunkers ( after some people even walked up the face of the bunkers!!). And the most frustrating was the 2 hours 50 minutes to do the first nine holes following some hackers ( the course ranger should have noticed)but after playing through the second nine was spectacular with the views and layout and the normal speed of play. Overall a course worth playing again. If they get some proper sand in the bunkers or scarify them he incentive to play again would be even higher.

great track, get a cart cause its a long walk between holes. But I love it. Great value for money as well. Just as good this area can put up

Played the course for the first time recently and found the course to be very nice and good value for money. On some holes you really do pay if you are wayward off the tee but at the same time I didnt find the fairways that narrow. The huge greens made you feel like you needed a driver at times to get to the hole. Awesome views from the 14th onwards. Two tips; Watch out once the wind picks up and ensure you get a golf cart

I can kind of see why the reviews are a bit mixed but I reckon this is a great course. There are some really interesting holes and some great views. I thought the fairways were good and the greens were very fast with all sorts of undulations which made for a good test of putting. One thing I thought was great was a small plan of each hole on the card above where you write the score – I wish more courses would do this.

After 2pm you can get on for $15 if you’re an RACV member or $20 if you’re not. Use the money you saved to get a cart – you’ll need it. The downer was, I guess because its good value, there were a couple of hacks on the course but we got through them and happy days!

As a course that has undergone many changes over the years I must say its now at its peak. Since the RACV takeover all aspects of the course have improved. The staff are very helpfull, proshop is well stocked and greens and fairways in top nick considering the traffic. There are still hills to climb and when the wind blows, well the wind blows, beers cold !!! At about $40 it really is great value as is everdent by the amount of people playing, book early.

I think it is quite a nice course, older style, which is great these days. Th critics here are underselling it a little bit.

Not a difficult course. Great to play if you want a quick/cheap game as dicount applies after 1.30 pm. Spectacular views from the 14th onwards.

Take the undulation out, the views and you are left with an average golf course. Greens stupid size, can't walk it unless you are mad, quite short, fairways dry and difficult to find a good lie, only thing going for it is if you are an RACV member it is well priced-I would argue however still not worth it

Have played The Cape many times and everytime I go there something is not right. This time it was the Fairways, they had recently cored the fairways and so they were not in the best condition, but we were playing ambrose so it didnt effect my game that much. Greens were excellent but not cut short, so a lot slower than I expected. Layout is fantastic and some of the holes on the back nine have great views over the National Golf Club and all the way to Portsea! A cart is essential to this course as it is hilly and sometimes you may have 500m to the next tee. Staff were excellent and the Beer was cheap.

Firstly let me say, the course and pro-shop staff were excellent - not a bad word about them.

Having said that, the course left me a little disappointed. Maybe my expectactions were set too high, but I really thought that it would be better.

Really tight fairways punish any mildly wayward shots - even some reasonably straight shots ran-off the fairways into the very thick rough (which made it very tough to find balls). The bunkers are appalling - virtually no 'soft-sand' in them at all. They really need a top-up with some fresh sand.

Finally, the greens were in pretty poor condition, plenty of pitch marks (unrepaired) and grass was at uneven at best on most greens.

Maybe I got unlucky - despite this, I will try it again as it is still relatively good value for money.

For the money it's gives good value to all levels of golfers. I've probably played it 10 times and always have a good time. Not the toughest on a calm day but watch out if it starts to blow. Excellent layout from the perspective you are rarely aware of any other golf hole on the course. Usually in very good condition with undulations in the greens to test the best of putters. Would recommend a cart as it is a hike between some holes.

That's how you feel if you walk this course. You need to be in remarkable shape or just plain masochistic.

The course itself is magnificent, but treacherous. The layout is set in massively undulating terrain that you will feel lucky indeed to find a flat lie anywhere...even on the greens, which are very difficult to read. Then there's the rough from which there is no return.

Holes 7 & 8 over the water are very inspiring. The par 3 7th is very long and the par 5 8th...well...there's a lot of it (driver off the tee and 3 wood off the fairway should see you on the green if you're lucky).

Then there's that par 3 that overlooks the National and drops down towards the ocean is just amazing.

Bunkers...well, they're just huge. Definitely need to close the stance a little to get some more back into the ball and get it to travel past the lip.

As golf courses go, it's tough and challenging but a lot more thought could have gone into facilities - like ashtrays, we followed the Sat morning competition around and it's a good thing the grass wasn't too flammable, the trail of cigarette butts was quite distasteful and showed a significant lack of respect by club members.

I recommend it just to say you've played there it is definitely an experience, but I believe it isn't great value.

Prone to very windy conditions combined with thick tea tree lining the fairways makes this a very challenging layout and one of the great public access courses in Victoria. Predominately a second shot course with some very large undulating and tiered greens and plenty of bunkers to boot. If you are a poor putter this could well be a demoralising course for you. Playable all year round and always in impeccable condition with daily pin placement sheets free at proshop. For less than fifty bucks midweek you can't get much better.
