Had the pleasure of playing in the weekly sporters comp on Thurs 3/12/09. Have been wanting to play there for years & after DTRAIN’s review, I was all the more keen to try out this hidden treasure. As all parts of the Downs are feeling the effects of a long drough, compulsory tee-up was in place. I am please to advise that the greens overall were in excellent shape apart from one that that had a few bare patches. They putted very well for a club with no resident green keeper. As DTRAIN said it is a pleasure to play & I hope to visit again hopefully not too far away in the future.

Well...This course is an absolute treat to play. It is short being only 5463 metres and a par 70. But it is beautifully presented and had ample trees and just flat out looks good. It inspires good golf and has a number of very picturesque holes including a little 96 metre par 3 played into a tree alcove. It opens with a reachable 482 par 5 with a green protected at the front by a ridge and then after that it just gets better. There are no real disappointments here as the course if fun to play and looks great at the same time. It is only nine holes with 2 sets of tee blocks but who cares because I can asure you, you will have a good time here. And if I had to walk around it three times I still would love it. The one drawback are the greens, they are not really true and have some weeds on them but that aside, don't miss this course.

I have played Chinchilla a few times and agree that for a course with no full-time greenkeeper it is a great little country track. Try to get there on a Thursday afternoon and join in the nine-hole Sporters competition that culminates with the Guzzlers Mug on the first Thursday of each month. The Mug winner has the right to tap any Sporters member for a drink for the entire month…but only once. If they ask twice they forfeit the right. I understand that with the recent rain the course is in tip-top shape. Nine holes. Alternate pin placings. Some of the greens are like upside saucers which makes it a bit difficult if you overhit, but the locals are friendly, the beers are cold and at $10 or similar for a round, the value is unbeatable.
