Played the back nine here (twice) last week. There was a comp on the front nine and I didn’t have the patience to mark time behind the field. Nice course. Greens are in good knick and the fairways are too. Lost a few balls because I was slicing off the tee and the rough is pretty unforgiving. It seems that the rough just goes on forever on some holes and it probably does because the course is on the edge of the "outback". I thought the course was quite tight. It was nice to get a bit of run with my drives for a change after all of the rain we have had. Good standard of bunkers. I played Mildura years ago and I thought this course was better – more interesting and varied.

PROS

  • Good greens and fairways
  • Outback feel
  • Varied holes
  • fair punishment for waywardness

Cons

  • no cheap balls for sale in proshop - bring your own

Measures 6250m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 145-210m, ten par 4s ranging from 315-417m and four par 5s ranging from 479-525m. Greens are in superb condition. Probably the best conditioned golf course in the Mildura region, and amongst the best along the Murray. Teeboxes were a little bare, but large enough to find a flat spot.

Fairways are in great condition, great roll and hardly a bad lie out there. Fairways are quite wide and it is very tempting to take driver out every time.

Course layout is challenging, but not too demanding. The Murray River can be seen from some of the holes on the front nine, but if you negotiate the tall trees and manage to hit a 150m wayard shot, then you must play your ball off the Murray banks – as there no OOB here.

Most holes have gentle doglegs which are lined by tall trees to quick greens which are guarded by deep bunkers.

Played here 01/08/2010 with the president of the club and paid only $27 competition fees. The weather came in on the back nine, but the damage was already done – too many down by then for any excuses!

Remember not to take driver off the tee all the time, as the tight fairways give you the extra 20m roll you need. When I return for a holiday I will remember that although its length can be discerning, smart golf is required.

Coomealla is definately worth the 23km drive along the Silver City Highway from Mildura. I will be back here for sure, and along with Riverside, Mildura and Wentworth these four are the pick of the Mildura region for your golfing fix.

What better way to end a long drive than a visit to this course.
This is one of the more challenging layouts of had the opportunity to play and i thoroughly enjoyed it.
This course will test any player and rewards accuracy. Don’t bother getting your driver out too often, even on the longest of par 5’s it’s not the percentage shot, this course will test your concentration and every shot you’ve got in the bag.
The greens are big, fast, undulating excellently maintained and just add to the challenge.
I will be back soon for sure!!

PROS

  • The layout

Very good course – but try not to play in the very early morning. I went at 7am on a Sunday and played down the first to a green covered in duck crap!!! A few other greens had this ’feature’ on them too. Something I’m sure the groundstaff do take care of on other days. The greens were very good, firm and fast but fair. Fairways offer good run. A good challenge for all levels and well worth the drive out of Mildura.

A real test of golf. I played it in a tournament from tiger tees to tough pin placements. The greens were also very quick, but good. A stern test, but in great condition. Well worth a visit.

Firstly, I am a member at 'Coomy' but live in Melbourne, I still get plenty of value when I visit the family on all the major breaks.

Definately is the best course you will find within a 300km Radius of Mildura, plenty of space and length to suit players of any calibre, though chainage off the tee is a decided advantage when you are confronted with 400m+ Par 4s like the 9th. The quality of the the fairways and greens has always been good but over the last couple of years they can now be classed as excellent.

Highlight holes are probably the Par 5 12th mega dogleg and double tiered green, Par 4 17th guarded green if you leave it too shallow (used to have a water hazard...now just a hazard...bit of a shame) and the Par 3 18th great signature finishing hole. If you are behind after 18 go double or nothing on the chipping area on the way back to the clubhouse.

Pay a visit, you will have no regrets.

P.S. Of course Alan would give a good review...the club captian probably should...

Coomealla is a tough but fair test of golf. Even the best players will enjoy this course. It is kept in immaculate condition and very hole presents its own challenge. There is no easy shot at Coomealla.

On 17 km from Mildura it is one of the best courses on the Murray.

If you're in the area don't miss it

I have been visiting the Mildura area since I was 13 years old and have played all the courses around the area and Coomealla is by far the best.

It is consistantly in beautiful condition. The fairways are fantastic and the greens are fast and true.

If you are not straight off the tee you will struggle to play to your handicap. Coomealla is a thinking mans golf course (this may be why I struggle), driver off the tee is not always the option. Leaving yourself down hill puts on most greens is not recommended.

If nature is your thing, you will be right at home at Coomealla with it huge tree, native birds and stacks of kangaroos.

If you are travelling through the area and have a spare few hours call in for a round, green fees are dead cheap.

YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED I PROMISE
