Cowes Golf Course is split into two “nines”. The outward nine holes are somewhat shorter, with many fine old eucalypts and an abundance of wildlife spread over the undulating and sandy ground. The front nine can lull a player into a false sense of security with its traditional and enjoyable layout.

One of the unique course features is a pair of par 5’s that bend almost in a semi-circle to the left. The first is No. 3, 478 metres and with a “false corner” on the drive. Only the longest hitters dare take the short cut off the tee which needs a carry of 240 metres across impenetrable ti-tree, followed by a similar second shot.

The course is eminently suitable for players of all ages ad skill levels. It is a picturesque, challenging and extremely enjoyable course.

Played here last week end.Very pleasantly surprised with the condition.Rained heavily overnight & was expecting sloppy conditions. Drains extremely well. Loved the boomerang holes. Have to play for position & not just blaze away hoping. Not a lot of fairway roll.We hit off at 9.00am & had the course to ourselves. Will make this a must play when I am back the area, infact I’ll go back just to be in the area for an excuse to play again.Pro shop very friendly & helpful.

Played it this weekend for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The course is in good nick, lush green fairways and well kept greens. Also as others say its an enjoyable layout with plenty to stimulate the golf brain. There are a couple of elevated tees which are always fun and I really enjoyed the par 3 17th (signature hole?). All in all a great country course.

Fantastic Course. Probably the best course in the area. Great variety of holes. With the par 3s and par 5s being the stand out. A good test without being too unforgiving as shots played into the beyond the secondary rough being playable. Will definately play again when in the area.

What a great public golf course. The highlights for me included the par 5 double kinked hole 3, the 18th par 5, the 17th par 3 and a few others.

A course in great condition with only a few nothing holes on the back nine, everything else was enjoyable, and challenging for below reg.

If you holiday at Philip Island, do yourself a favour and take the clubs.

NB: Busy in summer holidays, make a booking first.

Cowes is a demanding course that will test all areas of your game. Longer hitters definitely have an advantage especially on the back 9 with some very long and demanding holes. The 11th (512m Par 5) and 15th (418m Par 4) holes stick out more than others so a par on either hole mean at least one shot gained over the rest of the field. With bunkers strategically placed on nearly every hole your shots need to be accurate otherwise you will spend more time at the "beach" than on the greens. The greens are large which doesn't always guarantee a 2 putt after hitting the green. Having played over 40 courses around Australia, I would definitely advice a trip to Phillip Island to play a round at Cowes.
