Played the back 9 this week, very hot as with everywhere in QLD at the moment.
Nice little course, plenty of trees & water, enjoyed the greens, not usual type of grass – bit more coarse than usual
Could use some more signs on course.
Worth a look if you’re in the area.

As a social golfer it is easy to get on at any time of the day, the pricing is reasonable and it,s the second best golf course in the region and the greens are good.

I have played this course for 7 years now,but have just played my final game on it while it is under its current ownership, the fairways allways need mowing, same for the greens, I have now moved to fraser lakes with approx 100 other members of the craignish golf club and we intend turning it into an even better course with the help of the owners who are very nice people. It F lakes is 150 cheaper membership and it costs nothing to take your own buggy on the course.5 bucks at craignish, plus 4 bucks green fees.

Played the course on Good Friday 2010, course was in lovely condition, I was refered there by a local whom said that if Hervey Bay was booked out it was the ’best of the rest’ without driving to Maryborough or Howard.
What a great course!!!!!!
The owner took time to explain the problems with the 1st, 5th & 8th greens, discribing exactly which ones we should be aiming for. He is currently having new score cards made for the course (the current ones only show the layout for the back 9).

The 6th was a delight, walking out onto an island to tee off, then going for an almighty ’grip & rip’.
The greens were ’greased lightning’ compared to most Brisbane courses, it took a few holes to get the pace of them, but once we were ’on’ putting was a delight.
It was only on the way home that we realised that there was not one bunker on the course, no need with nearly every 4 & 5 having a dogleg or water hazard on it, makes you think a little about the shot rather than grabbing the club to make the green & going for it.
There is a few golf carts for those that way inclined.
There are bubblers to wet the whistle if it’s hot (& it seems ’par’ for this course) & you get caught short on water (we took 2 bottles each for each nine & run short), though the water is typical Hervey Bay tasting.
This course puts a fair few Brisbane courses to shame.
If you are local or up that way you could do a lot worse.

There has been a significant amount of rain in the area lately so the course has gotten significantly greener. The entire course is on a hillside, so drainage in wet conditions is good. There has been a large amount of work put into restoring the greens on the front nine and they have improved even further since the rain.

There are three flags on the front nine that are close together and can be confusing as a result, but if you follow the fairway markers, it’s fairly obvious which flag is which.

Playing Hole 1 – The flag on the far left. Playing Hole 5 – The closest flag on your left. Playing Hole 8 – The closest flag on your right.

The back nine is in excellent condition, but is only Par 32. IIRC, the 18th is a mere 15M shy of being a Par 5 and the 16th hole (Par 4) has the dreaded two water hazards.

There are about 8 carts available for hire.

According to rumours, one of the barmaids is a nymphomaniac – if that helps.

PROS

  • Many Water Hazards
  • Challenging

Cons

  • Many Water Hazards
  • Some bare patches on a few of the front nine fairways

Played the back nine a few months ago and I can remember this course well because of the heat at 8am when we were coming up the 18th.

Nice course, needs better signige, some holes are confusing. You can 2 or 3 greens with flags and you have no idea which one is the correct one as the signige is so bad.

But it was cheap enough and got some desperately needed water after the round when the clubhouse opened at 8.30

PROS

  • cheep

Cons

  • hot at 8am
  • poor signige
  • fairways need up grading

Due to the drought there was little grass on the fairway and you quite often run into the rough from the middle of the fairway. Needs better signage. Price was cheap enough but they only had one cart. Greens on the front were dead which made the par 3,s a lottery. Bar was good although my brother hia half set of clubs and was handed right and left handed and 3 7 irons. Might check it out in about 3 years time when it grows up a bit.

This course is a little bit out of the main stream of Hervey Bay. A great course with each hole having a potential of giving you that terrible 'plop' sound. Especially on the holes that you are hitting over two water courses!!

a nasty par five that is!

All in all a good one for the price!!

Played the back 9 three days in a row over Xmas and the climb up to the 18th green is heavy work in the heat. It is well worth the effort just to enjoy the rustic ambience of the 19th.
