i dont know what make’s this course so good according to other reviews. Me and the other three guys were not overly taken by it so much so i cant think of any hole that was great. Other reviews talk about gps we didnt see any and there was no picture on card of the hole or layout, also none at hole depicting what was ahead of you .Not impressed

I like Club Pelican – well worth the drive from Brisbane to Caloundra.

It is rather like a longer version of The Glades, another one I like. Perhaps not surprisingly as they are both Greg Norman designs.

It’s long enough to attract big hitters but with greens and bunkering to challenge most average players.

Great course – pity about the bunkers which were mostly GUR because of recent rain. Staff in pro shop very good.

We both really enjoyed this course, one of the best we played while in Queensland. We were disappointed to find out the GPS system is no longer working (especailly as they really promote it on their website) and there was no course guide yet available was quite slack. Otherwise the course layout was interesting and challenging and well maintained. The staff were very helpful and friendly too.

We played 6 courses in 8 days and this was one of the highlights. The course was tough but fair (if you can hit straight!!!)
We got a great deal which made it very well priced and the service was excellent from the moment we arrived.
Lovely clubhouse and facilities. Totally recommend this course as one to play.

Afternoon started off well with a very attentive team in the proshop. We were warned the game could be slow because of an shotgun event that had started before us. It was not a problem until the second 9 when the group behind us starting hitting up on us even though we had no where to go. A challenging course and still suffering from the recent deluge but wee will be definitely be back.

Ah Pelican Waters. How I looked forward to gracing your layout. I expected much of your well-reputed course and your appearance didn’t disappoint. I struggled on your challenging holes, but enjoyed your beautiful greens.

I shot my worst round in 20 years, but I do not blame you entirely for that. However, when you hold up a mirror in front of you and take a good hard look at the amount of people you allow on to the course, without a competent course marshal ensuring that all is well, YOU WILL LOSE FUTURE CUSTOMERS.

We teed off at 11:40 on a perfect Saturday afternoon and in any season, that should have been sufficient time to complete a round of golf. But as the sun set and darkness ensued upon your gum trees and rolling fairways, we were left to scarper back to the clubhouse, having only completed 16 holes in 5 and a half hours.

We waited on every shot and on the 12th hole, we waited 15 minutes to tee off.

Forget it, Pelican Waters, I will not pay good money to wait so long to hit mediocre golf shots.

You will not see me again…..

Pelican is a great course. Its very challenging, but still fun for all levels.

Obvious signs of the recent heavy rain – damp fairways and paths washed away.

Despite this, a course I will come back to many times.

Thought the general condition was a little below some other courses I’ve played recently but still quite acceptable – still showing signs of the wet weather we had here. Greens were good – fairways were good but damp in some areas. Staff were helpful.

Played here in late Jan 09. What should be a fantastic course to play is let down by poor quality maintenance of the course and its surroundings. Dissapointed by the standard of the fairways- should be better! Badly deteriorating cart-paths were very annoying and a look that this club could do without.

So in saying that I’m glad I was only paying half price as the greens had been cored within the last fortnight.

I did like the course design and aesthetic, lots of water, wildlife etc, not to mention a fine clubhouse.

On a whole though I have played much better courses than this with lower green fees.

Our group enjoyed the round we had over the weekend. We were satisfied with the discounted iseekgolf price of $90.

The course has a great layout and was in very good condition given the amount of rain recently. The practice facilities are exceptional.

The holes 15 through to 18 were very marshy which attracts a lot of mosquitoes. Bring the repellent.

The members group in front of us was extremely slow and were very offended that we suggested on the 10th hole par 5 (after following them for 9 holes) they could be increase the pace, as there was no other group which we con see in front of them. It was very frustrating. The presence of the course marshal may have improved the pace of the game.

The staff was very friendly, but club may need to work on the members, as the course still needs to be supported by social players.

After reading the previous comments I hope that Club Pelican take these comments on board to improve the overall golf experience.

A super course, with an excellent front nine but not so good back nine. Remember to bring aeroguard as it is very marshy and attracts a lot of mosquitos.

No doubt about it, Club Pelican is a great course to play on however there was some negatives. We arrived 15 mins before our tee time to find that the course was jam packed and well over booked. We coulded get a cart with GPS unless we waited another 15-20 mins after our tee time. Some holes had 4 groups, a group on the green, a group waiting to hit to the green a group that had teed off and waiting to play the next shot and a group waiting to tee off. We teed of a 2.00pm and didn’t get to play past the 15th at 6.00pm because it was so slow to go around and it was now to dark. When you pay so much to play on a nice course you don’t want to be disapointed like that.

Apparently a course that drains well as it was in very good condition given the amount of rain recently. Good lies, very good layout, really nice clubhouse and practice facilities. Off the blue tees it is challenging but not too hard for mid handicappers. Could frustrate occasional hackers who have trouble off the tee. Worth the $75 with cart my mates and I paid. Rate it equal best(with Hyatt Coolum)course I have played on the sunshine coast and, at the price we paid, better value for money.

Played this course in March 2009 based on reviews on this site. Even at a discounted rate, I felt it was an average course. Greens were very sandy and full of bumps – this was not mentioned anywhere at course or by staff.
Overall the course is rather boring and not very challenging – appears to rely on location and fact it is Greg Norman designed to attract players, as I would not make a second visit.
Also played Noosa Springs which was more challenging and interesting. Stopped in at Hyatt Coolum but did not play – looks in very good condition, but very pricey if not staying at resort.

This course is a very good layout, but the pace of play was dreadful. I would love to play again, but I don’t like 5 hour rounds.

It is a very good setup with lots of sand and water, although very few doglegs.

A great layout and is very challenging. The greens were a bit patchy on some but still ran true most of the time. Our cart ran out of juice on the 14th and we requested another be sent out, which never happened, so it mad the last 5 holes very slow.

Overall a great course and we will be back.

Was a really great morning, with some good and very average golf played-—really enjoyed the course, quite tight, but still allowed you some margin for error - great variation - greens recovering, still did not upset our play - highlite was one of our group scored a “hole in 1” then lost his ball on the next hole - that`s golf We were made feel welcome from the minute we got there, and appreciated it

Played Club Pelican today, and because of either maintenance or a disease the greens are in a terrible state. For me this detracted from the whole day, as top courses pride themselves on good greens and this is part of what separates them from lesser courses. But I guess I shouldve read the reviews on this forum before I played which stated they aren’t their best at the moment. Also, I kept thinking of the time back when Pelican was the most expensive course to play on the coast ($150).. even in top condition I wouldn’t shell out that sort of cash to play there again. But for the $49 I paid it certainly wasn’t a waste; for that sort of money it’s still good value as there are some really good holes particularly on the back 9 where the course etches itself into the woodlands. But alas there are some very ordinary ones too. Personally I think North Lakes for the same money is much better value, and Pacific Harbour for just an extra $5 ($54) leaves it for dead. I may also have had too high an expectation before playing Pelican given many of the rave reviews on this website and elsewhere. It’s a good course but I wouldn’t rate it in Sth East Qld’s best 5 or 6 as some have claimed. For $49, it’s definitely worth having a hit there. But anything more than that, and you’ll find better value elsewhere – at least while the greens are in the condition they are.

Pelican Waters is a superbly beautiful course, and not unlike Brookwater it manages to achieve a real uniqueness by being very much of its place. The vegetation is all native to the area and the course itself runs through the coastal heathland and waterways in a way that feels very natural, even though it’s obviously carefully man-made.

To play, it requires a pretty solid game to avoid the loss of many balls into the many waterways and impenetrable heaths. But stay on (or very near to) the fairways and it’s a delight, both as a golfing challenge and visual spectacle.

When we played, the first impression at arrival wasn’t good, with nobody attending the bag drop-off (not hard to unpack & rack our bags ourselves, but not the level of service we were expecting), but once located the staff were very friendly.

On the course itself, the only thing we weren’t absolutely pleased with was the greens, but it appeared our timing was simply unlucky and that the greens had recently been aerated & sprinkled with sand.

The only other problems were a nonfunctional GPS system on our cart and having one of our balls stolen by a pair of buffoons who claimed they thought the ball must’ve been lost (in the middle of the fairway).

But those little niggles couldn’t detract from what was a superb day on the golfcourse, finished off by surprisingly delicious food and icy beers at the bar afterwards.

A good resort course design, not overly difficult but with plenty of challenge if you want to play the back markers. In most cases the fairways are generous and the tees are flat therefore removing any excuses for missing them. If you do miss be prepared to get another ball. Be prepared for lots of uphill downhill lies as most of the fairways are undulating. Good quality greens and bunkers. The course has a natural feel about it with the design using the natural grasses and bushes as opposed to manecured gardens.

26. smakdown | Rated | 08 Dec 2008 | Add A Review

The course was in good condition, except for the greens which were experiencing a disease and were being cut very high. Consequently, the greens were terribly slow.

I found the course design to be somewhat odd. The first nine holes were typical Norman design (quite similar to many of the holes at the Vintage), and not particularly inspirational. Holes 10 to 14 were more imaginative and quite enjoyable. Then the course morphed into a woodland setting completely in constrast to the previous 14 holes, and the course architecture changed unnecessarily.

For the price ($49 including cart with GPS) it represented decent value. But other courses on the Sunshine Coast were in better condition and for the extra $20 or so, I would choose Twin Waters, Noosa Springs or Pacific Harbour everytime.

Need to go back to this course as the day we played it was pouring rain and had to call it quits after 9 holes. Hoping to be able to obtain another booking time to finish the round but unfortunately they claimed as it was booked through iseek we had to go back to them. Didn’t feel as though they were being as helpful as they could be. Will book again as the course looked good with plenty of bunkers and water to make it a challenge for the average golfer.

PROS

Thoroughly enjoyed Club Pelican. It was the third time i have played there and i will return. Golf is all about enjoying the company of friends, challenging yourself and most importantly speedy play. I had all three at Club Pelican. People who need to to waited on hand and foot at a golf club are unfortunately becoming all to common. The staff in the pro shop are friendly and must have to put up with a high percentage of arrogant people. The young girl on the drinks cart greeted us with a smile and needs to be recognised.

Pelican Waters was in beautiful condition and a truly challenging golf course. Greg Norman has built a beauty and only adds to the golfing challenges on the Sunshine Coast. Some times I think Australia is the luckiest golf country in the world.

The only disappointment was the lack of course marshals to keep the groups moving. We were trapped behind a group of beginners on the front nine, finally getting through them only to collide with a group of older golfers that seemed to think good golf etiquette is the reserve of private clubs only and paying top dollar to play somewhere gives you some rights to play at a pace you like with little regard for others behind you.

Other than that it was heaven to spend a day at Club Pelican

The ISG discount for teeing it up after 1pm has to be the best value golf in this neck of the woods.

I love this course – it rewards strategic play and is plenty of fun.

Not sure about the slow play comments from the other reviewers – maybe these people were playing on weekends? I’ve only played here on weekdays and always got around in less than 4 hours.

This was a fairly good example of what a resort course should be like. I played on a whim, and had to rent clubs – unfortunately, I got a pretty crappy set, but the staff were very helpful.

The course was in great nick, and since I haven’t been playing regularly, it really found me out, especially on the back 9. The bunker placings are really well thought out to test the average hitter (although I expect long hitters would be less troubled), and the wind really forced you to think, sometimes starting shots over water and letting them come back. The fairways were closely cut but soft, really easy to hit off. The rough was probably not punishing enough – I took fairway wood from off the fairway a number of times without any trepidation. The bunkers were OK in general, although I found a couple that were too shallow.

PROS

  • Very good condition
  • Interesting layout
  • Friendly service

Cons

  • Poor rental clubs

Played the course last Thursday & was immediately impressed upon arrival. The group could have played for hours on the putting green alone! The course was in top condition, with the greens as quick as I have played for some time. On the day the wind was howling, with the group (all mid to high handicaps) losing around 20 balls for the day thanks to an abundance of water & trouble either side of the fairway for the sprayed shot – good thing we didn’t pay the full price. GPS was a great help. Only downside was that the drinks cart was not seen once the whole round, although this doesn’t detract from the total experience at all. Will be back.

45. GoinPro | Rated | 29 Sep 2008 | Add A Review

Good course, well maintained, not overly long but good bunkering, high handicappers would lose alot of balls. Greg Norman has done a good job, with holes actually playing differently depending on the wind which is rare in queensland.

Service was poor at best. Pro shop was dull, didn’t see a drinks cart all afternoon, the pace clock on the GPS is a great idea to eleviate slow play, but most golfers must have ignored it, had to make up a foursome with another pair, just to finish before dusk, after a 2pm tee!

4 hours is getting silly on a course like this compared to 2 1/2 hours at twin waters earlier. Definitely wouldn’t pay the full price, use iseekgolf or after 3pm, this is not a hundred a round course, if you pay full price you may feel disappointed.

Great course. Lots of challenge. Not really long. Bunkering and water hazards very well thought out. Greens of good standard. GPS on the carts very good aid. Lots of nice scenery and wildlife abounds.

Of concern was the lack of pro shop ambience. Casual attitude. Lack of good quality hire clubs was a concern considering some visitors may be low handicap players who would happily pay for a good quality used set of top-line sticks. Grips were appalling. After all, it is on the tourist trail.

Please cater for all grades of golfer!!!

I had first played the course recently after it opened and this was my first time back. The service from golf operations was terrible. The guy did not really care and whoever cleaned the cart and checked it is blind. The cart had a range ball, finished cigarette, bottle top and lighter in the tray. The cart also looked like it needed a good polish and was not restocked with gear. However, the service in the pro shop was great and the lady who assisted was very good. Good thing once I started playing the course was in great condition. Although true the greens seemed awfully slow. Overall great course and the only reason I would play again.

Very well presented course that I would rate a bit above North Lakes. Service was average and play was extremely slow which almost spoilt the day – nearly 30min per hole for the first couple of holes (few groups in front playing ambrose that were taking forever (the ranger went after them but they only seemed to quicken up when realising it was getting dark): with a 2:00 tee off time it was dark enough by 5:30 meaning only enough time for 14 holes: good value still for the $39 deal from this website: would have been shattered if I had paid the full rack rate of over $100 or whatever it is. GPS’s were handy. Course was pretty tough with many lost balls.

PROS

Cons

  • slow play

The $39 online tee-time was great value. Would I pay $100+ to play Club Pelican again? Not in a million years!

Once again, another Queensland resort course that didn’t live up to my expectations. Club Pelican needs to trim it’s marketing/hype budget and replace the cart paths and put some effort into the greens.

I was very impressed with the first nine holes of this course. Unfortunately, I did not get to see the back nine holes due to the course being over booked, or perhaps it was the lack of a on course marshall to keep things moving freely. I teed off at 1.41pm and arrived at the 10th hole at 4.20pm. I had had enough by this stage and headed back to the clubhouse.

Apart from the slow play, the first nine holes were very enjoyable.I found the course not too challenging and most players should play to their handicap. My favourite holes were the long par five 3rd, the 5th par three. There was definatley no bag attendants. The buggies were good with GPS. I saw the drinks cart twice during my nine holes.

I found Pelican Waters to be a fair course playing off the blue markers and players should be able to play near their handicap. Greens were a little rough but I think this is because of the winter months and westerly’s ripping across the course.

I enjoyed your excellent driving range, putting and pitching practice greens – they were an excellent surprise! I wish we could use them every day!

Good bagdrop service. Great challenging course although a little wet in places. Downside – drink cart only seen twice on round(lucky not a hot day). Carts are great have ball cleaner, club washer and GPS to top it off BONUS.

love the course, especially now as a prefered player and getting to play for $39 after 2pm. Makes it a real bargain. Was pretty wet after recent heavy rain, but still played well. Drinks cart was seen once on the front 9 in the distance and never again. No one put my bag on the cart, but get over it you lazy buggers, carry our own bag!! Can’t wait to go again but will have to get rid of my slice, as you need to be straight on this course. If you’re not, the demon rough awaits so take plenty of balls. In my opinion the best course on the sunny coast both for value and the quality of the course.

What a great course. Nice layout and great greens. I also played Noosa Springs and Hyatt Coolum this trip and this course by far was the best. The drink cart did come around and the bag drop area was being attended, so I can’t agree with the previous reviewer.

I have been A Sunshine Coast resident for quite some time and managed to play onmost of the Coasts great courses. Yes, Pelican is a great course if not the best layout available, superb greens and every hole with its own unique challenges of water, strategically placed bunkers and lush bush surrounds.

However the darkside… service from the bagdrop (what bagdrop?), drinks carts (what drinks drinks cart? – saw it once in 18 holes and nearly collapsed from sun stroke and dehydration), the 19th hole, hmmm expensive and piss poor service.

So what did we have … an expensive, challenging and exceptional golf layout (which is good) underpinned by poor management and extremely poor service. This all spoiled a great day of golf… not sure if we’ll be back!

This is a really beautiful course, it has alot to offer, very challenging even the short holes can be tricky, if you play from the back tee’s it can be very interesting, my advice is stick to the fairways, if stray off you will be loosing lots of balls, ask me i’m talking from experience!

Pelican Waters is a stunning but very challenging course. We played as group of four, two women and two men. The biggest challenge for the girls was the length of some of the holes and the depth of the bunkers, while the biggest challenge for the boys was keeping the ball on the fairway. The greens were superb, the fairways fantastic and the rough was… rough. Course management is very important here. My advice is that it is better to be shorter and keep the ball on the fairway than trying to hit long and ending up in trouble. If you stay on the fairway the bunkers become easier to avoid, especially the greenside ones. On the downside I have to agree with other reviewers about the lack of service – one of our bags was put on the cart backwards and the staff in the pro shop really couldn’t have cared whether we were there or not. We played on Saturday Jan 26, Aust Day and the club put on a meat pie, lamington and cold drink mid way around the course. We found out about this when we saw the drinks cart as we were hitting off the 1st. Unfortunately we only saw her once more. It turned in to a very dry argument as there are no taps around the course. There is also a lack of rubbish bins and the cart paths are very rough in places. I must say though the staff in the bar were fantastic. At nearly $100 a round you expect a great course and great service. Make sure you get your money’s worth on the course because the service is non-existent.

found this to be a terrific golf course .Good wide fairways with plenty of hazards to catch the bad shots.Played the back nine first, starts with a par five uphill all the way too a very large green . Best hole on this nine is the 290m par 4 12th , short hole but the green is a postage stamp so requires a very accurate pitch shot. Then the front nine. By far the better of the 2 nines. This nine winds round the lakes with houses on the opposite side & would have some of the most attractive holes in the state. the best of these would be the 334m par4 5th with bunkers guarding both sides of the fairway at about 210m to 240m & a lake croossing the fairway at about 60m out & wrapping around the left side of the green. this is followed by a 150m par 3 off a raised tee, mostly water carry with the lake sneeking round behind the green.this course is definately worth a visit.

The layout and condition is wonderful can’t recommended it enough and its the best on the Sunshine Coast, but I agree with other people…. the service is rather average! No water fountains for a drink, so you have to buy from the elusive drinks cart…. 3 time on the front and not once in the heat on the back nine….Take your own. So for $100-$150 I would expect a lot more service for my money…5/5 for the course and 1/5 for service

Played Pelican Waters last week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience with the typical Norman/Links feature of having holes to yourself with only rare glimpses of other holes. Strategy all the way with the GPS carts and with corse management and good shot selection certainly playable for all people involved.

From reading other contributions must also add that no drink cart visited us for the whole day so pack your own lunch and drinks. Was well serviced in the bar afterwards with Lovely lamb rolls, done with a difference but there weren’t many people around.

Enjoy the course for wahat it is and believe the price tag is justified when compared to other coast courses. Can’t help but think that pelican Waters Management should be reading this not the golfer.

Played this course for the first time last Saturday. Course is tough and was in reasonable condition though extremely soggy. Everything else from no drink cart to staff attitude made for a rather unpleasant experience which we will not be repeating. Could not wait to finish and leave – didn’t even bother to try the bar after a pre match lunch that was not up to par.

As a regular visitor to the Sunshine Coast I always look forward to my game at pelican. I played last Saturday afternoon and while the course was in reasonable condition, the lack of a marshal and shortage of service from the refreshment cart tarnished my experience. My playing partners and I visited the bar after golf, only to find 1 bartender available to service the needs of 30 odd customers. All in all, i enjoyed the golf course, but unfortunately not much else.

Played this track for the first time a couple weeks ago. Forgot about the bag drop, you may as well load your own buggy & make certain to ask for some range balls or you may not be offered any.

Admittedly, there had been quite a lot of recent rain, so unfortunately the course was a bit under foot. Played off the back tees & can say the course present a good challenge to this golfer. Nice layout, plenty of strategy required to avoid bunkers & hazards.

Disappointing in general, I can’t say it was good value even with a discount voucher. Hard to justify a $99 round on a course in less than ideal condition & with poor service in pro-shop.

Played Club Pelican today and everything was in immaculate condition. Greens and fairways were great - greens ran very true.

As with most of the courses Ive played recently, you obviously notice that they dont feel as long as the courses you played when you were young. Eg-410m Par 5 or a 245m Par 4 (shortest par 4 on the course). So you have to choose when to hit the driver very carefully.

One instance where I didnt follow that philosophy was when I came to the 245m par 4 12th. I hit driver not even thinking because it ended up going straight to the green but flying it - should have hit the 3 wood...damn!!!!

The club has a great layout with a brilliant looking clubhouse and resort next to it so make sure you take the camera with you - I wish I did!!

GPS in the carts makes it even more appealing and the ball and club washer on it is bloody brilliant!!!

Currently its only $85 to play but double check when you call the prohop. HIGHLY RECOMENDED - ENJOY!!

Overshadowed by the Hyatt Regency Coolum, this is a very good golf course. If you are more than a 18 marker, you will do well to break 100! Excellent condition and service. Enjoy!

Great course! Fairways are like carpet, greens in perfect condition. One of the best courses I have played on. The *only* bad thing about the course is that the fairways are too lush and green that you don't get much roll off your drives once the ball hits the fairway. but then, nothing's perfect... but Club Pelican almost is.

If you really want to enjoy a good game of golf you have to give this a shot.

Picture perfect course, excellent condition.

Get the Golf cart - has the GPS, ballwasher, club cleaner - the works!

One of the best presented courses (I player Twin Waters, CLub Pelican & Hyatt Coolum last week).

Of the 3, I would rate Club Pelican No 1

I played at Pelican waters about 2 weeks ago it was looking great until i found that the fairways are that wet your ball plugs every time and gets no roll or kicks down the fairway, also around the greens was sogging wet no room to gain relief from casual water as it was everywhere you went. Greens were nice and true. Very challanging if you go out with the mindset that you need to bash it off the tee every time you will come unstuck. I am a 23 h/cap and shot 3 over it, not bad for a tough course as it is possible to do this at my home course as well. Keep your game simple and safe you should go alright. My advice is maybe tee off in the arvo as it may have time to dry out and give you a run for your money.

i played ther a few weeks ag and the course is so lush it is a golfers dream...the challenging layout is surronded by well maintained hazards and greens...one of the best courses if not the best in Queensland...

worth the money trip and all..staff is just fabulous and gps in the carts just tops it off...

if you are going to play anywhere in the sunshine coast it will have to be this one..

This is one hell of a course - just sensational. I love the options that norman gives you here. On every hole you have 2 or 3 ways to play it, no just bash it down the middle here, you'll need to have think a little. A few classic holes -2,3,7,8, 13, 14 and 18. Having given it a wrap the 16th is probably one of norman's worst but I guess 17 out of 18 holes is a darn good effort and I find if hard to imagine anyone not walking of thinking that they have just played one of the country"s finest. The greens are a little tricky to read - into the grain they don't move anywhere near what you think and down grain they will break their ears off. So pay particular attention to the grain. A definate must play!

A great course doesnt become an average course when it takes a little longer to get around it... Relax and enjoy the fact that your playing, in my opinion, the Sunshine Coast's premier course. Putting it ahead of the host of the Australian PGA, Hyatt Coolum and Peter Thompson's Twin Waters isnt a decision made lightly but after a round here you might agree.

Played the course in Feb 2004. Magnificent course but the weather was 48 degrees on course. Fun course but also demanding. One of the best on the coast.

Greg Norman what a legend of the game and what a great course designer.

This course is challenging, but a pleasure to play - designed by a professional - not like most other wimpy courses that were designed by the greenkeeper who had very little idea back in the 50's.

The course has broken away from Troon Golf which is probably a blessing.

And as for you Mr Qldin.

Get over yourself!

You obviously don't have any idea on the running of a golf course so don't bother commenting on it.

The team there is very professional and complaining about slow play over the busiest period of the year...you must be a total yuppie with totally unrealistic ideas. Enjoy the course, it's surroundings or your playing partners if you had any.

Everyone please don't listen to his comments because the golf course is an absolute gem and a must play course in QLD.

As a long standing Peli Waters fan, I was extremely dissappointed over Xmas when, after playing 12 courses across Brissie, Nth and Sth Coasts, turned up at Peli for my 2nd last round.

10.30 tee off not ideal, but even worse, course was choked and the normally efficent marshalling was non-existent. In fact, didn't see a marshall at all until I went into the pro shop after the 9th to complain.

Guess I was spoiled playing some great courses, and even though most of them packed (Royal Pines...2 x 5.5 hr rounds, waiting for our Asian neighbours to finish duffing their way around...bless them), the marshalling and co-ordination was generally quite efficent.

This day, at Peli, was rubbish...and most un-Troon like, a blip on their normally excellent card.

The best course in the area.

I played it on a long golfing holiday where I played 23 different courses in 4 weeks. (Then I collapsed) Even playing all those courses, this one still stood out.

Pelican Waters is a great course and just as importantly great fun to play.

The course is tough but fair and if you don't play from the back tees you should be able to play to play to your handicap.

Some of the holes are as good as any I've seen -2, 3,5, 8 ( my favourite),12, 14, 15 and 16 are especially worthy.

The course, while still immature, is already of the quality you would expect from Norman / Troon; the practice facilities are first class; and service and club house are relaxed.

The biggest surprise is the beautiful way the course blends in with the natural environment - waterways ( front nine) and wetlands ( back nine). Happily less than half the holes are fronted by the property development and the devlopment is not intrusive.

The course is spectacular and with time will only get better.

It seems that at the moment it tends to be somehat overlooked ( when compared to other resort courses) but this should correct itself over time. This is particularly ironic as Pelican Waters is also competively priced.

I would recommend this course to all - you will want to play it again.

PS. If you're looking for a great place to stay on your golfing holiday the Vardon Point apartments are wonderful - great views, fit out and value.
