Another nice little nine hole course that is very cheap ($8 green fees)
but make sure that you have plenty of soft balls because the greens can be quite hard and sometimes difficult to get the ball to stop. you can go there most days of the week and have the whole golf course to yourself. John the green keeper is a lovely man and is allways ready for a laugh and a chat. the course is a bit hilly (good for the calf muscles)but well worth the drive to Cygnet. the highlight of my round there was driving the par 4 7th hole and sinking the eagle putt ..yeha.

See goat track.

This course should really only be played by those who live in Cygnet and rural surrounds who can’t be bothered to drive the 20 minutes up to Hounville, or those who are just starting out and want to whack a golf ball and don’t really care about much else. At current number I’ve played 57 or 58 of the about 77 courses in the state and this is in the worst couple – along with such fine tracks as ‘royal’ Wayatinah, Iron Pot and Huon Heights.

Where to start – the entire course is baked hard with only the greens seeming to be watered; the teeing grounds are moonscapes; the greens are uneven; the course routing is bizarre and holes are short. As an example of all that is wrong with this misuse of the term ‘golf course’ is the sixth, which is an about 150m par 4, yep a par 4. You could probably have a go at the green with an eight or nine iron as that 150m is around a dog-leg. Straight line its probably about 100m. The dog-leg is about 60m from the tee, (so you can’t hit a full shot even when not trying to get to the green), turns left through 90 degrees and has a muddy lake along the turn and up to the green, and OOB on the inside of the dog-leg. Someone could probably make a case for the hole being ‘strategic’ but it’s just plain stupid and more at home on a putt-putt course.

Why the people of Cygnet public GC, and Huon Heights public GC don’t just get together and either help out other local 9-hole clubs like Geeveston GC 20min to the south, or Huon GC 20min to the north I’ll never understand.

This course receives one star, only because I can’t give it a half.

The Cygnet Public Golf Course is a Par 66 9 hole course that has some interesting challenges in the way of water and hilly terrain. Considering it is a public course it is maintained quite well - although the greens are quite rough and bumpy at times.

On the big plus side the majority of people who play there do tend to follow golf etiquette (compared to other public courses where no one shows any sense of golfing etiquette). The green fees are exceptionally well priced - being only $8 for 18 holes. Membership is available as well and is also very reasonable (under $150).

For those wanting a fairly decent challenge with a fair bit of variety, or those of you who are simply starting out with the sport and want somewhere that is not overly long (18 holes 3520 metres for mens, 3070 for ladies) give Cygnet a go.
