Located in the heart of Darwin, the Darwin Golf Club is home to a tropical 18 hole Championship layout designed by Peter Thompson and Michael Wolveridge. Effluent watering during the dry season and superb wet season drainage ensure that luxurient fairways and greens are well maintained all year round.

The course demands accuracy from the tee a good touch on and around the greens. The large African Mahogany and Palm lined fairways are skirted by out of bounds on almost every hole. Mastering the course is dependant on finding the right balance between patience and aggression.

The well placed bunkers and trees make Darwin a strategic rather than blast away course. Greens are slowish but don’t take long to get used to. Fairways and water hazards depend on the season of course but would change the style of play. At the moment it’s hot!
Friendly, nice clubhouse (with TAB!) and competitions available most days of the week. Hope to have another round before I leave Darwin as it’s good to have a bit of local knowledge here.
Well worth a hit – in a hire cart if the heat is on.
The Relic.

Good course, and in good condition. Apparently at times the bunkers become bare, but we played not long after the Arafura games and they had been topped up so played well. Greens aren’t overly quick, but roll well. Standard layout of par 36 each side for both men and women, with rating of 72 for both. Nice layout with some hazards to keep it interesting, and the par 5s in particular are very long, especially for the women. If you are town a while they do a monthly membership for $130, versus green fees of $30 midweek or $35 on weekends. Well worth the money.

One downside is that there is no drinking water on the course, although there is a free cold water tap halfway, so make sure you take plenty with you.

Not the best climate to play golf in, but the course was in fantastic condition. Pro shop guy was very friendly and the round only took 2.5 hours. No traffic at all except for a man and his 2 grandsons who politely let me through. Fees were a little more than what I had imagined being in Darwin, but was worth it overall.

Only negative of the whole round was the greens. They were in good condition but were sooooo slow. I was hitting the cover off 50 ft putts and they were still coming up 20ft short. I guess this is due to the amount of rain they get, but was still a dampener on my round (pun intended).

A good experience from first tee to the 18th green. Fairways narrow and protected by high mounded fairway bunkers. The rough is punishing on wayward shots, greens although some small, present challenging contours.

Pro shop staff friendly and courteous and would recommend a motorised cart for the southern golfer visiting the top end.

All round a pleasing experience on a well presented course.
