I was passing through this town, not expecting much, surprised by the cafe vibe of Denman, drove over the railway line and found a bonanza of sporting facilities a stones throw from the centre of town. Top little olympic pool, tennis courts, basketball stadium, various ovals and a decent 9 hole track with friendly locals. I started to settle in to all this. From what I gathered the expanse of sporting options was a local town production and its all on a local, not rip you off, community basis. It all felt very 1960s, non -corporate. No big fences, grafitti or vandalism. Very old Aussie. The golf course is ”$10 for the day, $7 juniors” so you can’t beat that. No pro shop, just a building for members use. An honesty box for green fees. Nice undulating course, wide fairways, big trees, good greens and great views. Hardly anyone on the course when I played. A couple of water carries. A few dog legs. Decent length. All good. You could tell the members knew they were on a good thing. Not flash but honest.
