A nice little golf course in Dover over looking Esperance bay… We played there on Saturday 11/6/2011 and had the course to ourselves, the weather was lovely and the sun was out. The first hole has you hitting blind up over the road to a narrow fairway ,the approach shot is in to a small green with water behind it. The course has gone through some changes over the years some for the better and some for the worse (the 8th hole is a silly little dog leg that you cant do anything but hit a wedge to the corner then maybe a 7 or 8 iron to the green when you have a beautiful area to tee off at the top of the hill looking down to the green). The greens are small and bumpy BUT they are playable (just bring a broom with you) The fairways are nice with some good grass on them, the walk is quite easy and enjoyable. The green fees were only $10(well worth it). So if you havent played Dover for a while or you have never played it before get down there because it is a lovely little walk with nice views everywhere you look.

Yes it’s Australia’s southern-most golf club / course, but that’s about the sum of it’s claims. The course is a small rural 9-holer like most towns in Tassie seem to have, with $10 green fees and an honesty box. There is nothing special in the design, with most holes running back and forth beside one another, separated by a line or two of eucalypts. The conditioning is ok, as the course does have some green grass, but don’t expect groomed fairways or smooth greens.

It is simply a quiet golf course where you’re unlikely to encounter crowds, where you can play a mix of different length holes, and where the green fees are less than a movie ticket.

A one hour drive South of Hobart through the Huon valley brings you to this very picturesque golf club. Very friendly easy going locals who trust you with the honour system of paying the very reasonable fees. With spectacular views looking out over Esperance Bay to Bruny Island must make this course one of the most idyllic in Australia. Ideal for the retired person. Join in for the regular "Chicken run" It can be a lot of fun. Watch out for the wind. It can sure blow down there. But if you haven't played Dover, then you haven't played the most Southern course in Australia.
