As you pass out of Eaglehawk beyond its old Town Hall and see the remnants of the Goldfields all around, it is a bit hard to believe that about 2 km further on there is a terrific regional golf course with great greens and bunkers , four lakes, and pretty good fairways.

The course comes as a surprise because all around is scrubby ironbark trees and old mullock heaps, and then around a corner and over a hill there is one of the prettiest courses in country Victoria.

Even has a full time PGA pro and a jam-packed pro shop.

We loved the many well-cared for gardens around the course with signs indicating which member was looking after it.

Green fees were only $15.Try it !!

Tucked away in the former goldfields area of Eaglehawk (just a few km north of Bendigo) this course is a real surprise. Several holes are lined with lakes, and the undulating fairways make for a pleasant but challenging game. The greens are fast and terrific, and the club is well advanced on a program of introducing couch to most of the fairways. A resident PGS pro is on course with a Pro-shop chock-a block with golfing gear.

You won't lose many balls but you need to watch the out of bounds fences.

Friendly club and great value for $15 Green fees.

Eaglehawk situated on the west side of Bendigo town is a picturesque course on undulating land.The course's front nine is the pick of the two with the 5th 8th 1st and 9th all standout holes.The 9th measures at 301 m and doglegs right at about the 140m mark.There is a gum tree area to the right which is out of bounds.It would be about 260m directly to the pin so if you feel brave have a go ,but there is plenty of timber to fly through.The 14th is a lovely short hole.You hit to an elevated green with a deep bunker on the right.Nice hole.Eaglehawk plays to a par 70 and is well worth a visit.The fairways are a little inconsistent,but the greens are superb.
