Eastwood’s biggest asset is its superb santa ana couch fairways, so if you’re playing well you’re being rewarded with great lies.

Aesthetically, Eastwood is very easy on the eye with the mighty Dandenong Ranges lurking spectacularly in the background on a number of holes as well as at the practice range. It could, however, present better if its bunkers were better cut and more consistently manicured.

Eastwood rates as a moderately difficult track for most golfers which makes it an excellent members’ course. It is a well established, tree-lined course with a good mix of holes (long, mid and short-length par4s, dog-legs left and right, uphill, downhill & sidehill lies)....some forgiving, others not. But like all courses you’ll need to position your ball well if you’re really going to score. The greens offer golfers a good test of skill, with some tricky sliding and downhill putts to get the heart-rate up. I’d like to see them more consistent speed-wise though (once the new greens at holes 3 & 4 settle this should help).

Importantly Eastwood membership is affordable, making golf membership a viable option even if you can only get out once a fortnight. For what you pay here, the quality of golf course is exceptional really. And hopefully getting better.

I’m not sure about the all weather comment in the write up. I played the course after two weeks without rain and it was still wet in parts. You can imagine how wet it gets with the clay base when it rains. I played it as a social visitor. It’s a ‘nice’ course. Quite short, not overly challenging, very lush and green (because it’s always wet). The greens were excellent, the hills added interest. Happy with the day but wouldn’t travel back.

This course is a nice little course with a few bunkers and it is fairly tight but forgiving the greens are very niced and hold great

drive past this course everyday on the way to work, finally had the chance to play it and when i did i enjoyed it! its a little hilly but not as bad as u think for a course thats at the foot of the dandenongs. the layouts good with the back 9 just winning over for me with the variety of holes. well worth a round if in the area!

I used to be a member here for a couple of years (2002 & 2003 whilst on a "sandbelt waiting list") and even in the middle of winter the course held up remarkably well.

It is always a good walk around Eastwood and the course presents well for a game at any time. Apart from a couple of holes (well documented below) the course is a reasonable test for a golfer and the setting is sensational.

The quality of the course is evidenced by the AGU choosing to hold the Australian Open regional qualifying here for the past couple of years.

I still play here occasionally and driving into the carpark it it just like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes. However, if I had to be critical then I would say that a significant proportion of the holes are somewhat one-dimensional (straightforward) with not a huge emphasis on shot-making. The greens are also fairly non-descript and relatively slow (apart from the 8th which was laid poorly and is difficult to "stick" a ball).

Having said that, a changing of the guard on the committee are making some very positive changes to add some variation and even the odd challenge.

If you are offered the chance to play here then jump at the chance.

I last played here about 2 months back, and it was in very good nick - excellent condition throughout the course. The only slight critisism is that the greens were a tad woolly, as it was mid week, but they still played fine.

This is very good layout, you can be sure. View from the 1st tee sums it up - dogleg left, sloping fairway, bunkers on the right - this course puts a premium on tee position. The bunkering is very good, perhaps reminiscent of the famous Sandbelt courses (the eucalyptus & cypress trees found that hug the fairways also put the Sandbelt in mind). Though not overly long, there are some slopes on this track so you may be in for quite a hike. Yes, there are some blind tee shots, which some people may critisise, but as Tom Morris once said (or was Alister MacKenzie? I don't remember): "They're only blind once". And besides, it adds character (& gives the members a home-game advantage).
The only 'weak' holes on the course were, I agree, the short par-4 3rd - flat, 290m with no real trouble if you're mildly competent at the game - and the 180m par-3 8th, which was still an improvement from when I last played it.

Still, a very good track, and if they've actually fixed the winter drainage problems, then it might be the best claybelt course around.

Sounds like they have done some long overdue work there.

I played the old Eastwood where you could forget turning up in the wetter months. I hope they have truly fixed the drainage problem. It's a nice track however, plenty of doglegs so tee position is essential. Like everything it pays to be in the know as some tee shots are blind. Greens were always in excellent condition and very speedy. Downfall was the short par 4 on the front nine (I think) along the boundary fence that was driveable for the longer hitters with no trouble to speak of, it's a nothing hole and a real let down to rest of a fine course.

I agree wholeheartedly with the comments of 'ozgolfman' I too am a little biased towards Eastwood, having been a member for the past 16 years and have been apart of and seen many changes, some not so good, like the new 8th (but it is getting better) and the first tials of santa anna. Now the program is complete I hope they can leave the course alone for a while and let us get on with playing golf.

Well I may be a little one sided. But eastwood is an awesome course. They have spent a lot of cash over the last few years on drainage and grass. It's what you would expect from a top private course. It's very challenging and a little hilly since it's set in the foot hills of the dandenong ranges. The only downside to eastwood is that they screwed up the 8th hole when they redesigned it (180 meter par 3).
