Elderslie golf club in Broadmarsh.
Played there on Sunday the 24th of July and had the whole corse to ourselfs for the front nine. This is a little gem biult into the rolling hills of broadmarsh with nice fairways and tee beds (the greens were a little bit hard under foot) cheap green fees at $15 and there is heaps of change in all the holes (my favorite hole was the little par 3 8th hole)about 110m and you tee off up this little cliff face, it was very nice.
the par for nine holes is 35 (only one par five) and is quite easy for golfers of any abillity. lots of room to get back on the greens when you spray a drive off the tee. a must if your in the area !!!

This is my favourite course in Tasmania. Lovely green fairways, good greens and not very crowded. I am tempted to become a member when I move down to Tasmania in a few years.

PROS

  • Not crowded, lovely scenery, good greens and clubhouse.

Cons

  • Further away than you think!

This is one of the better rural Tassie 9-holers. It must have better access to water because where others are suffering from very dry conditions, Elderslie was still quite green and in overall well kept condition. Perhaps it’s simply a testament to those looking after the course?

Either way, the course is about 30-40mins from Hobart but located in a valley that feels like it’s a million miles from anywhere. It’s seclusion is one of it’s charms. There is enough elevation changes, hazards and dog-legs to keep the round interesting, and the trees and surrounds are pleasant too. Where the course really stands apart from most other rural 9-holers is the conditioning of the fairways and greens, which were well above average. Another advantage is that the course doesn’t consist of lots of short holes – the index one hole is the 14th, a 422m par 4 that will take two good hits to make it to the GIR.

There are only minor changes in the tee positionings for the second time around, meaning you really only need to play 9 holes here, perhaps that is something the course could look at developing over time, as they seem to have plenty of space around the course.

I’ll certainly be back next time I’m in Hobart.

Green fees were $11 which is excellent for the course. Even better if you grab the ‘Golf Course Guide’ book (sorry ISG, your discount green fee promo doesn’t cover many small courses like the GCG does…) which gives you a two for one at this course.

There are a lot of small country clubs in Tassie that provide for their own challenges and charm. Elderslie is no exception. On my last visit the fiarways and greens were remarkably green and well kept. The folks are friendly as usual in Tassie. Its not a terribly difficult layout, but a couple of holes do provide a test of nerve or management! great (very) short par 3 (8th I think). A good course to visit for those that need a little space left or right..?
