Having grown up playing this course I am a touch biased toward it. But not too many people I know that have played it have disliked it. As long as you aren't expecting something from the sand belt, and can appreciate that it is a country course and not manicured like the city then you won't be dissapointed.
Starting hole can be a tough one, rated number 2 a 360 odd metre par 4 with tee shot to (or past) a slight dog leg left will leave an uphil second to a green with a raised front edge. Out of bounds all the way up the right but plently of room to hit it in.
Number 2 is a similar length par 4 and dead straight with a big drop from the tee to the fairway. Tall gum trees line the fairway to being in play is important. Flat second to green with nasty mound on right of green.
3 is a par 4 only about 320, but up hill and around to the right. Fairway bunker on the left will trap some longer hitters who miss the turn. Up hill to a green with raised front and nasty dry ground over the back. Don't be long.
4 is a 180 metre down hill par 3 with space around the green, being long will test the short game coming over the raised back edge. Plenty of run here most of the year and anyone can reach the green.
5 is 450m par 5 with OOB all the way up the right, if you can get the tee shot to run down to the flatter ground (about 270 from the tee) then a long/mid iron can get you home in two. Be careful if trying to lay up because ball may run off down the hill left and into a nasty patch of gum trees.
6 is 130 odd par 3 with a bunker to the right, but miss by too much to the left and you won't have much of a lie.
7 is a par 4 only about 310 with a tee shot over water (only about 60-70 carry needed) past a big pine tree narrowing the opening to hit through. Fairway is split between two levels, right side is up high left is down low but flat with a hazard up the left edge. Go too long off the tee to the left and you are in trouble. Green drops off every way, hit the middle of this one.
8 is about 330 par 4 with a turn to the left. Bigger hitters will be able to run it down the hill about 80-90 out and down to the flat in front of a slope up to the green. Green is protected by a bunker either side, and overshooting the green here is deadly!
9 is longest hole 480 odd par 5 with dog leg right. Long hitters will drive up the midle and look straight at green, still a good wood away. Green is elevated at the front with a sharp slope from back to front.
10 is 260 par 4 from elevated tee with a turn to the right. Ranked 18 long hitters may drive the green, but be careful of hooking it, OOB all the way up the left.
11 is straight flat 340 par 4 with OOB up left hand side. Don't go over green, it can be a difficult chip.
12 is a 450m par 5 with a slight turn to the left, plenty of room to drive in but OOB all the way up the left. Longer hitters can hit this in 2 with a long iron. Green is 2 tiered with bunker either side, difficult to get at flag up the back. Again don't be long!
13 flat 160 par 3, green has almost a second level on the left side. If pin is centre or right of centre its easy to get at.
14 flat 450 odd par 5 with a gradual turn to the left. Mounds up at long drivers distance. Longer hitters may get there in 2 but green is very wide and easy to 3 or 4 putt from 1 side if the pin is on the other.
15 a great 155 par 3 up hill with a bunker guarding front right. Missing it right will give a nasty chip over the pot. Being long is diabolical with a steep subtle slope from back to front. Miss it left if you have to miss.
16 is ranked numero uno. About 370 dog leg right par 4. The brave will go over the pine trees but this is frought with danger for a slight miss hit will mean a certain chip out. Green is pretty flat with a little bit of trouble if too far left.
17 is a pretty 135 metre par 3. Down hill over the corner of the dam to a sloping green. The water shouldn't come into play but it captures many.
18 is a great finishing hole, approx. 450m par 5 with dog leg left and up hill to the green. Long hitters will have a chance of making it in 2, shorter hitters beware the gums on the right side of the hill when hitting second around corner. Green is guarded by a bunker either side. Deceptively sloping green is the sight of a very makeable birdie, but just as easy to take a double with careless shot making.
Hope people find this helpful.
Also, the staff are very friendly, and well stocked bar and gaming room for those who like that stuff. Also chinese food available.

Foster Golf course is a beautiful and well maintained golf course but in general is not overly challenging in it’s fairway design, hazards or greens. That said, there are a few holes which are quite challenging and require a bit of analysis. It’s a pleasure to play both the front nine and the back nine, especially since they are equally as easy/hard and nice in appearance. A very pleasant place to play golf.
