I played 18 holes on the 26-Apr-13. I did like the course, the facilities, the layout and greens. I would play again. I found it in very good condition for a public course.
I am not a profesional golfer but defenitely not a waste of money. Happy Golfer.

This is a ’wannabe’ resort course but sadly its your usual public dump. I noticed that the greens staff were more interested in mowing the bush and rough rather than the fairways and greens. There is a serious probem with weed investation in the greens so I hope you like putting on crab grass. The result is slow and soft greens that do not roll true. The back 9 is the most boring layout and very short.

Then there are all these fences up all the tees and local rule stating you can not hit a driver, yeah right I dont think so! The green fees are well over priced,and you may need a personal loan to buy a beer in the clubhouse.

Played Glen Iris this morning, course was in reasonable shape, especially for a public course and groups were moving as quickly as they could. We had a slower group infornt of us but due to the fact we had a, shall we say, less than skillful player in our group it really didn’t put us out and we were still able to complete the first nine holes in just under 2 hours.

We have always had a good time at this course though today we had a couple of self promoted golfing guru’s following us who constantly hit up on us, couldn’t even wait for us to finish on a 145m par 3 before teeing off. Maybe there needs to be a person monitoring the play to stop this behaviour before someone gets hurt. Funniest thing about the head guru in the group was we overheard him at the 8th stating to people around that he was just 1 over for the day so far though he went quiet when he duffed his first 2 shots into the drink.

Overall as said, this is a nice little course and is ideal for those who are not long hitters as there are only a couple of lengthy holes on the course. The bar and restaurant are of similar quality to a lot of private courses and the pro shop staff are always happy to see you.

On 29th July 12 at 13.10 , it was a horrible 18holes played fot the day. We used to play at this course a couple times but, still lack of poor time organization.Reccommend to play on the Blue Tee, as it is a fairly short course. We finished the first 9 in 3hrs and when we continued at the 10th Tee some fellow group who only play 9 holes came before us!! and they should of started at the 1st Hole !!!!Lucky us we finished last hole before sunset.

A good open course (lacking trees/shade) that gets a bit crowded on weekends. Looks like poor design in some areas, as there are always groups banked up on the par 3s on the back nine. Could do with some better maintenance, but is probably up there with the rest of the metro courses in this sense.

Not the cheapest either given its quality, and the snack bar is like a hall closet.

Played Glen Iris a few times, Good layout but pity about the Course maintaince!Some great golf holes but just lacking that extra care would make it a great course..At $28 bucks a game its hard to beat!

I moved to Perth last year and my goal is to play every course in Perth. Having read the positive Glen Iris reviews, I went down there yesterday with high hopes and came away disappointed. Poor condition everywhere – fairways thin, various grass types, patchy. Tee boxes in poor condition. Grooming was poor. This is not a well maintained course and is heading to goat track status. Shame as it’s not a bad layout – didn’t like the restriction on the 360m par 4 #2 that only allows irons to be played. Greens where good. No drinking water available on course. Grumpy staff in snack bar. At $29 midweek, there’s better out there.

I played Glen Iris on the 5/1/08, and it was a very pleasant days golf.

This very short course offers many little challenges, such as very unpredictable greens, tough bunkers and thick rough. If you are caught in some of the longer rough, a lofted club is very appropriate, such as a 7 iron or above, because anything lower than that and you will not get under the ball.

The greens are horribly unpredicable, due to the fact than some break nearly to right angles, and others hardly turn at all. This offers a great challenge, and really tests your putting skills.

This course is bordered by trees, which fortunately do not overhang the fairways, and it also has a fair bit of water.

Thsi course is very good for the price, and also boasts wonderful facilities.

Having lived in WA for 12 months and now preparing to move back home to good old Sydney town in 2 weeks time, I managed to get my last WA round in today at Glen Iris – BOY did I save the best till last!

This track is the best public course in Perth by a long way! Maylands and Burswood are reasonably well kept but not near a significant challenge, Wembley a bit tighter, but shorter and less maintained. Altone Park is magnificently kept but is just too short. Hillview and Rosehill – well just dont bother if your a single marker, you will get very frustrated by the course conditions. Collier Park, well its slowly getting there but still pretty flat and rather un-interesting. Glen Iris is THE PUBLIC TRACK IN PERTH!

This course is exposed to a sea breeze in the afternoon that makes scoring a lot tougher, it blew whilst I played. The majority of this track loves the driver, especially the back nine, but dont catch a fairway bunker or you’ll be sorry thats for sure. The fairways are predominantly couch and what can I say, very nice if you stick to them :) The par 3’s are quite strong, the picks are the 8th at 155m, 12th is 160m over water (definitely the hardest one) and 16th is also 140m with water all down the left side. The hardest of the par 4’s is definitely the 9th at 395m long and slightly uphill. Even the shorter par 4’s of around 300m are sneaky doglegs that are well bunkered – course management from the tee is a must. The toughest par 5 would be the 3rd, uphill at 510m rated #3 on the index.

The greens of Glen Iris all but rival the quality of some private tracks in Perth such as Lakelands and Wanneroo that Ive also played, even though these might be a tad slower – true they are! The course is well bunkered, however a little soft in some to the point that your ball can plug in the walls and disappear sometimes, thats the only aspect that could be improved Ive noticed, although we shouldnt be missing greens anyway if we strive to be solid ball strikers :)

If you find the private courses a severe investment to join, do yourselves a favor and keep your game in check by playing this course regularly off the plates. Im not saying it will prepare you for a tough private course for competition, but it will fine-tune your game to the point that you will have all the required go-to shots at your disposal!

Im giving Glen Iris the 4 stars, when the bunkers improve I recommend that the management do make it private. I was a member of Cabramatta in Sydney for over 10 years (one of the best private courses in Sydney), this course is only 150m shorter. But I must say, its conditions and layout are second to none. I will be monitoring the future of this course closely.

Glen iris is one of my local courses and well worth the money you pay. We played on the weekend, and although I am not a good golfer I always find it challenging, the green are firm and the bunkers are presently sanded well- but not too much. greens are mostly firm but not too fast-last time i played there in june they were lightning fast, so hard to read well. All in all, a excellent round of golf with some tough well protected holes that require good skills and planning, nad good shot making to achieve a low score.

I am a regular golfer and just moved to WA. Having played at various other public courses, I find Glen Iris the best public course around. Challenging fairways, bunkers and with varying degrees of difficulties on the greens. Excellent.

I frequently play this course when I am only out to play a round of 9, for the fact that the front 9 is so good. The back 9 is not too bad but if I am going out for a round of 18 i prefer to play somewhere else. Personal preference and like I said its not too bad.

I agree with badsdotcom, dover 72 as well as brettwaldby must have been having a bad day - a bad golfer always blames the course.

The resort style front 9 is challenging with quite a bit of water and bunker traps, lush green fairways and greens that are not too fast (which is great in my opinion).

This course is truely a credit to its grounds staff and one which I will continue to frequently go back to.

dover 72 must have had a bad day and blamed the course which is always a bad golfers easy cop out.

The course I played was nothing short of magnificent. The fairways were lush and not rock hard allowing you to take a divot unlike some Perth courses (ie Burswood). The bunkers were well maintained and for a public course not to many rogue footprints.Challenging to get out of but not impossible. Not a long course, you needed to think your way around. So the Driver had to stay in the bag for some of the par fours.

The corner of holes 3,4,5 and 6 is a sight as good as any I've seen. With water and sand a plenty surrounded by some beautiful resort style housing.

Finally, the greens. The best Ive played on. Pure and undulating without being to quick. An absolute credit to all concerned. Well worth the money !!!

I recently had a game of nine holes at Glen Iris having played the full 18 there several years ago and recqalling I enjoyed the experience. Teeing off early we played the back nine as patrons with buggies pushed their way to the front of the queue on the first.

The round and the company was pleasant enough, however never have I visited a course in Perth where the fairways are long, the greens pocked with divots and the bunkers unkempt and unraked. Infact i would go so far as to say that the course took on a somewheat unmaintained look about it despite its potential as being a good layout with sandy challenges able to get most golfers into trouble without some careful planning.

Playing the greens was more like walking through a minefield and I don't think my playing partner and I had a clear run at any hole all day with the ball deviating off course and bobbing around more than a ship on the ocean. The fairways resembled the rough experienced on most resort style courses and thre rough itself was very sandy, unkept and genrally looked untidy. Look a little beyond it to the boundaries (say the 18th) and parts of it resembed a tip with old bits of iron, buckets and pots strewn everywhere as well as long grass. The bunkers (which on the whole are large and deep regardless of location) were unraked and many of the rakes located were few and far between and broken in half. It made escaping from bunkers difficult and frustrating to be forever in someones footmarks or divots. Now I could say that it may be the average clientelle that use the course that do not respect the ettiquette of golf and the responsibility of playing this game, but course management should take alot of the responsibility.

I agree with other reviewers that the back 9 is somewhat similar in most of the holes and infact I rarely had to take out anything but a driver, wedge and putter on most holes.

And finally the cost of a round is not worth the effort. To be paying $17 for 9 holes and $27 for 18 when other public courses in Perth are anywhere up to $4-5 cheaper and far better maintained, is something I won't be wasting my time or money with again. its a shame because it does have all the potential in the world.

Although i've said that, it's not the worst course i've played on.

If bunker play is your thing you'll love this course. With close to 90 high walled bunkers on this course chances are you will find a few before the days finished. The front nine reminds me of a resort type course where houses are only metres from the tee off areas. Bunkers, water and fast wavy greens are the holes only defence on some of this nines short holes. There are some very pretty holes on this nine including the par 4 4th which needs a pitch across a lake to the green which is surrounded by beautiful homes overlooking the course. Water comes into play on the 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th holes. The back nine is somewhat dissapointing after playing the front. The holes are too much alike and almost all are straight. Only fairway bunkers and greens surrounded in some cases by four or more bunkers are what challenge the player. Theres not too much in between fairways to punnish the stray drive and I think this part of the course doesn't have the same class as the front nine. This course can be broken wide open with clean iron shots to the greens. A nice course although I feel the green fees are a bit high for what it offers.

Glen Iris is about a 15 min drive south of the Perth CBD area, and is a public course. Greens fees are 22 for weekdays and 33 for weekends and public holidays (walking). I recommend walking. It's not a long course, but a little hilly, which adds to the attraction. I play this course quite regularly and always enjoy it. Being a public course, you won't expect the course to be too long, and it's a test for golfers of all levels.

Straight off the bat, I think this course is good enough to be a private golf course. The clubhouse is kind of small, but I keep walking off the course thinking that if it was a private course, then I would defn consider becoming a member here. But not to be if it was a private course, all the negatives I have of the course will be null.

The worst thing of the course the bunkers and the fact that whenever I'm in one of them, I always end up in someone's giant footprint. There's too much sand in the bunkers anyway, and 80% of the time, I've had my ball plugged in and sometimes, you can't find it. The greens could do with more frequent cutting, and a bit soft. But I can understand why they don't. Same for the tee box could do with more mowing I feel. But the bunkers are what gets me.

The front nine is much like a resort style course few trees here and there, with the houses up close and personal. So there's a few nettings around some of the holes ugly but useful. The front nine is a very picturesque nine. Holes 3,4,5,6&7 being the pick of the front nine.

The back nine is in stark contrast to the front nine. It's more of a links course. Two very different nines, which seems to complement each other well. The front nine has more attractive holes, but the back nine is tougher with the wind.

One of the more challenging public courses in the Perth area. Well worth a visit.
