This is a great little suburban parkland golf course.

Steve in the pro shop is a legend, but he couldn’t hit the skin off a rice pudding!

Gordon is one of my mainstay courses in the area. It has a great atmosphere set well away from the main roads. Greens and fairways are in relative good nick although the tees can look like they’ve taken a beating at times. I tend to find the mid-round up and back par 4 fairways a bit monotonous, but the addition of water does add some excitement. My favorite hole is the par 3 16th has you hitting from an elevated tee across a gully and stream to a tricky green. It’s a great hole for some friendly bravado.

Bar/bistro is good and well placed to watch over the 18th green and 5th tee. Very relaxing having a drink and a feed whilst inwardly reflecting on what went wrong.

• Plans to make the course independent of town water.

• Course can be a bit shabby in places
• A number of relatively uninspired par 4 holes mid round.

I play this par 65 regularly and find it to be one of the best value courses in the area. The course is quite short but can still be challenging with some very good par 4’s. You don’t need to be a long hitter to score around here but you do need to be straight. If the council put a bit of money into it with some good greenkeepers it could be a great little course. Friendly, helpful staff in th pro shop. The bistro has great food and the clubhouse is currently being renovated.

Measures 4620 Par 65 from the back plates with 9 Par 3s ranging from 110-185m, 7 Par 4s ranging from 220-420m and two Par 5s ranging from 450-460m. For a council-owned course the greens were not bad, mostly tiered but two-paced. The teebeds were quite poor, while the fairways were thinly covered in many places, but it can be difficult for green-keepers here with heavily wooded areas in a valley location. The first tee does not allow any woods, strange, but probably for safety reasons âÄì yes it does attract fair share of beginners. Front nine does not get any better, with limited challenges, apart from the 457m Par 5 5th offers water hazard along the left and right of green, but no bunkers guarding the flat green âÄì strange.

The back nine is hilly and somewhat more challenging than the boring up-and-back front nine, with the only highlight being the 185m 16th with water hazard in front of green, OOB to the left and bunker to the right âÄì one planned hole on the course.

Played here a few times now, the most recent visit on 7/7/06 with green fees $21, which is not too bad for value, but for challenge, it is a bit of a dud. A strange layout with the 9th green being the furthest point from the clubhouse, while the 4th and 8th greens are adjacent to the clubhouse.

Played this course today Feb 15 06. Found it to be the best value course I have played in the past 6 mths. For a measly $21 u don't get your hopes up but by the time I had finished the round I was pleasantly surprised.
Condition of the course is currently excellent, fairways well kept, greens even better - very few pitch marks. Was able to putt confidently on these easy greens, as most are rather flat with a few exceptions.
Bunkers are sparse, but there are a few greens guarded by them.
Tees were mostly excellent only a few with any substanial amount of sand on them.
More picturesque than expected,hilly, some wildlife, hares etc.

Overall this course really is quite easy without being boring. It rarely punishes you for mishitting, but remains a challenge nevertheless with variation in holes being adequate. Short Par 3's are easy. The 180m 16th is the most memorable on the course. The best challenges are on the long par 4's however.
This is a forgiving course that makes for an enjoyable round of golf, very few frustrations to be had here. And taking into account that the condition of the course was far above what i was expecting for the price, I walked away quite a happy man.

This course is tucked away amongst houses and bushland in Sydney's north. I played there last weekend with our social club. We generally manage to get a game there once a year. It is a short course, with a par of 65 and only two par 5's.

The fairways are reasonably narrow, so you rarely need to take driver off the tee unless you are straight with it. The fairways were in good condition, as were the greens. They were firm and true and a pleasure to putt on. The tees are really the only part of the course that requires work done on.

My favourite holes are:-

3rd - Uphill par 3, 150-160m with a bunker front right

6th - Elevated par 3 with trees left and right

16th - By far the best hole on the course. About 150m off the front tees, OOB left, creek front and scrub right. Wide but narrow green that slopes towards the creek.

Yes, this course isn't the most challenging to every golfer but I always enjoy playing here. I thoroughly recommend a round here.

Played Gordon GC on the weekend of 2 July '05. Overall a fairly below average course.

If you are a decent straight striker then you will find it reasonably easy where as most players will find the trees with regularity. The "uphill and down dale" nature of the course, even with some short 110m Par 3's, will keep most mid to high handicappers guessing with their club selection.

Pretty well sign posted so a player new to the course will find your way round easily.

Many of the tees and fairways are almost on top of each other so you need to keep your ears and eyes open for other players teeing off.

Unfortunately, the greens are generally in poor condition. Deep score marks and ruts in many. Almost "Putt Putt" in a couple of instances. Drought is not to blame as the course is watered.

Tees also in poor condition generally. More divots in them than grass. On some finding a patch of grass to tee off is an effort. A combination of a lack of maintenance and a lack of player care. Being a council owned course might not help with available budgets either.

Fairways were badly damaged by carts and buggies sliding up and down them after 80mm of rain in the week prior. Drainage overall was poor with many areas of fairways and green approachs well under water. Great long skid marks and ruts caused by careless cart driving across most fairways will take time to repair.

A higher than usual number of beginners and hackers not willing (or maybe not knowing) to call faster players through which meant some long waits at tees. Chatting with other groups whilst waiting is a bonus though.

Pro shop well stocked and staff friendly and efficient. Easy to get a hit. Worth playing for a social hit but don't expect too much.

Gordon is pleasant and nothing else.

I play there fairly regularly and get lessons there but unfortuneatly I played ther last week and they had made a new hole and it is not great. While there are some holes that if you are playing well you will love, I advise you to play there. It is a respected course and a great proshop and club pro.

The cousre is forgiving and easy - cheap and cheerful. I am glad I have played this course. Not the best but great for a socialite.

This course has a very good mix of holes and some that make you think. Maybe it is not for the purist or low handicapper but for us mere mortals it presents an honest test of our skills.

The fairways & greens have survived the drought far better than some other courses, and they have recently installed a greens/fairways watering system.

I play a lot of courses around Sydney and look forward to our Gordon matches.

I play there semi regularly, either socially on a Sunday morning, or in their regular Open Comp on Sundays.

It's short, but not straight forward. If you're hitting the ball straight then you'll go ok, but the trees lining the fairways have grown over the years and it has become challenging should you miss your own fairway.

There are 2 par 5's, which are scoring holes if you get off the tee ok. The par 4's can vary, the 7th (Index 1) is particularly tough and quite long - especially in the context of this course. There are some 'mickey mouse' par 3's, but the 16th is a spectacular hole - one of my favourites on any course.

From an elevated tee, it's about 170-180mtrs to a wide, though not very deep green. About 10 metres short of the green is a rocky creek bed, the left is trouble (O-O-B), and to the right are numerous swales. The green on any day is lightening quick, a putt of 5+ metres could have a sublte double-break in it. Par here on any day is a good result.

Most par 4's straddle a gulley, making the 2nd shot difficult to judge. Usually you have a downhill/uphill lie, to a sloping green. This can throw out club selection if you aren't familiar - if you ARE familiar, the wind direction can also play a part.

In all I rate the golf course highly, because as far as 'Public Access' goes, you can usually always get a start. Ross Watson (course designer) has had influence on this course recently, and I believe they are ripping it up further to add a lake. Should be magnificent.

Gordon GC is a short public golf course par 64 situatated on Sydneys north shore. There are several long Par 4s and several intersting Par 3s. Most players will enjoy the course unless you are a single figure marker. The Driver is only needed on a few holes. Many holes can be driven with a long iron or 3 wood. The setting is very quiet and enjoyable. Certainly an interesting course. Not crowded. Several holes with water and frequent bunkers. Fairways are quite undulating with a couple of blind pins and protected by trees. Good for mixed standard. Some greens showing wear but overall on good condition. Course is being upgraded in some areas.
