A traditional course design, built when the balls were small and the woods were wooden. Super fairways. Greens are variable, many as soft as butter and badly need drying/coring. Interesting and appealing course. Something of an Augusta Masters vibe, with pines, azaleas, and a pleasing overall impression.
Not the best in any wet. Course has been closed more than the average in even moderately wet months.
Well set clubhouse that is earning the club a lot for weddings etc. Lots of marriages in the gardens they have put aside and spruced up for the purpose.
Great meals, at a good price
Excellent practice 150m FAIRWAY with a genuine GREEN to shoot at. (That alone would almost make me a member, but I am an Everglades crocodile. )

I can’t say I enjoyed my hit at Gosford. Being a longer hitter, the best strategy around here for the visitor was to just hit iron off just about every tee. And that makes a boring round.

Ton’s of severe dog legs and extremely narrow faiways. I measured one fairway at 240m out as being only 15m wide. That’s fine for the occasional hole, but upon reaching my ball I was either feeling lucky or unlucky.

Greens were very injured from repaired ball marks, some were soft and receptive, others were concrete. Watching other’s shots was paramount to knowing which green you were about to deal with.

Fairways were nice – I’m not sure why they had preferred lies on.

The foursome I played in all agreed that local knowledge is essential here both in greens and hole play.

PROS

  • Fairways, rough was a good test
  • Clubhouse

Cons

  • Bruised, somewhat bumpy greens
  • Old man course, short and straight is best.

Nice layout with some tricky holes, you need to keep the ball straight especially on 1,4,6,9,11,13,15,16 and 17. On 17 if you don’t hit a slice you would be better off hitting an iron to avoid OB all down the left side. Good value for money.

Enough challenges in the course to keep the regulars of it interested week in week out and satisfied after a good day out.

A very interesting course and well looked after considering it gets a lot of social play over the christmas break, afew more touch ups and they have the makings of a top class course

Played there last week and was surprised to find this jewel not far from Sydney. The putting surface is fast and true. With most holes challenging and making you think about shot selection. The fairways were well maintained. I find it good value for your dollar and definately worth a visit.

I am only a junior and only drive the ball 220-240m, and reguarly play at tuggerah, which is quite long. I was very happy to find a good length course for me. The course is in great condition and a good test. (Hit an iron off the 1st tee)

Over the past month I have been lucky enough to play twice at GGC and I can report that the golfing experience is one of the best in the area.

As someone who is happy to invest a little extra time in a golf day, practice facilities are very important. GCC delivers well on this front with a conveniently located driving range (external to the club) located at the race course about 1km down the road, practice nets, and two practice putting greens... so get there early!

Once out on the course, a very good B grade course is well prepared and provides an adequate challenge for almost all levels.

A tight drive on the 1st hole (par 4), leads into a double dog leg par 5 second which gets the adrenaline pumping. A tricky water carry is presented to the ladies on the 3rd hole, with the course providing both threats and opportunities for the next few holes. The 8th hole is probably the gem of the front 9, with multiple fairway bunkers and water on the approach protecting a relatively short par 4.

If the blood is still running after sampling the BBQ lunch presented at half way, the back nine will continues to entice.

The 10th hole is a shot par 5 which will reward a big hit that dances with the OOB's stakes. By providing a good balance between risk and return, the holes that follow remain interesting and will keep you interested until the real fun begins again at 17, which is for mine the signature hole. If you draw the ball (like yours truly) look out a moderate drive that is misdirected left will land squarely into the mangroves on the left. Time to learn to shape the ball left to right, and be ready to hit 7 iron + onto the greens. The 18th will again tempt the big hitters, but you'll need your short game in ready to deal get close to the pin which is safeguarded by a chunky bunker.

Overall the course is one of the best 4 star courses around. Although not providing spectacular views and Hollywood polish often associated with A grade courses, fast consistent greens and well mown fairways will keep the purists happy, and good facilities are provided. Why not have some fun on the coast?

Went and play the men's comp on Saturday. The course is relative flat, green and fairway are fine in most holes. Good value for money only 23 for the comp. Not difficult for the beginners like us. Quite enjoyable.
