Measures 5793m Par 71 with five par 3s ranging from 136-198m, nine par 4s ranging from 269-425m and four par 5s ranging 425-497m. Course has good, firm true greens which I rate very highly. The teeboxes are very bumpy and hard to find a flat lie and stance. The fairways are dry and patchy in some areas, but has a fair covering of grass. Couldn’t comment on the bunkers – as I didn’t play from one!
Not an overly thickly tree-lined course, but some holes have strategically placed bunkers to punish the wayward shot.
The par 5s are very weak and if I didn’t look at the card I would have thought the 440m 2nd and 425m 16th are par 4s. They are short and have minimal bunkering.
Highlights include:
*the driveable 269m par 4 4th with a road along the far right, fairway sloping to the left and a bunkerless green to attack from the tee.
*The 380m 6th with its undulating fairway could see you hit a mid-low iron to a green that is protected by 4 bunkers. Wacth out: players hitting over you on the 7th tee are to your left…
*The 136m 8th with the Mulwaree River to hit over to a bunkerless green with some thick rough and OOB right.
*The 425m par 4 18th slightly doglegs left with a water hazard 130m short of the green which is guarded by 3 bunkers.
My favourite is the 369m slight dogleg left 14th, with a bunker on the right 230m from the tee, OOB maintenance shed right of green to a two-tiered rear to front sloping green with 2 bunkers.
The course has an unusual layout which has holes 6 & 7, 8 & 9 and 15 & 16 criss-crossing across each other! I felt the layout feels quite tight with some teeboxes literally backing onto greens within 10 metres – 17th tee backing onto the 2nd green, etc. All it takes is an errant approach from someone and you could have quite a headache. Possibly the only headache on the course, as arguably the layout is fairly unchallenging.
Played here 14/08/2010 and only paid $20 green fees which is quite cheap. Just watch out for players hitting over you as the criss-crossing layout could be a little hazardous. Drought-affected but its greens are enough reason to give it a go!
