Gundagai’s Bidgee Banks golf course measures 5438m Par 70 with five par 3s ranging from 111-176m, ten par 4s ranging from 302-416m and three par 5s ranging from 432-446m.

Course is set on a natural floodplain on the northern banks of the Murrumbidgee River with 2 natural creeks through the medium sized tree-lined layout. Kikuyu fairways were lush and a little sloshy under foot (in the winter months) with slow bent grass greens and the local rule of preferred lies up to 30cm through the green. There is no sand hazards on the course however there are plenty of water hazards.

Highlights/challenges include: the 432m Par 5 slight dogleg left 1st (index 10) with a teeshot over Morleys Creek which follows the right side of the fairway to a bunkerless green; the 330m straight 3rd (index 2) with another natural creek on the left which is dammed to create a large pond 5-120m out from the bunkerless green; the 372m 90-degree dogleg left 10th (index 7) with the OOB sportsfield on the left and a 200m drive required to see the green to reach the dogleg corner; the mammoth 416m straight Par 4 13th (index 3) with OOB Middleton Drive on the left about 100m out from the green and the 390m 15th (index 1) doglegs 45 degrees right from 290m off the tee with a creek snaking along the right side of the fairway from the tee to the 2-tiered front-sloping bunkerless green.

Played here on 25/07/2011 with the hill to the west of the highway shrouded in fog, with heavy cloud, frequent light showers and the temperatures ranging between 2-8 degrees during the round. Green fees are $25 for 18 holes or $15 for 9 holes. There is also a tiny putting green and 2 practice nets next to the 10th tee.

Gundagai has around 2000 people at approximately 230m above sea level and is less than 1 hour from either Wagga Wagga or Yass and 40km north of Tumut. The course is located at the end of West Street on the way to Junee which is 55km west of town.

Interesting flat, easy walking layout with some simple short par 5s along the Murrumbidgee River with 7 out of the 10 par 4s less than 340m and 11 holes with water coming into general play.

Pretty course that is easy to walk. Too many lost balls for some of our players. The course is suffering real problems with the greens though.

one of the nicest golf courses in this state with plenty of hazards and trees. if you can hit plenty of fairways your sweet but if your a bit wayward take plenty of golf balls (don’t think you wont need them).
