Located 35km north of Armidale, Guyra GC is a typical country course. Guyra is the highest town on the Northern/New England tablelands. Winds can make club selection interesting.
The course is set around the Mother of Ducks Lagoon, a nature reserve for migrating birds, quite a scenic wonder. But that is as far the compliments go. Fairways are marshy, greens were sandy to fair at best. Fairway shots of the tee, can be plugged due to the wet underground. The course is very open and the wind plays a large part in your round. Hazards include water on nearly every hole, due to several small dams along the course. Probably to keep the course from flooding due to the lagoon closeby, seeping watertable. No bunkers on this course, but plenty of wind and water to negate with.
The clubhouse is closed and you have to go into the bowling club for the scorecard and pay the $14 green fees for 18 holes or $10 for 9 holes. No carts or pull-buggies are availbale for hire here, so I had to carry my set around...Not a bad course, but play at Armidale or Uralla before you tee-off here.
